View Full Version : VBAC in Perth
Hello all out there,
I am wondering if anyone has had a good VBAC experience here in Perth.
I am trying to find a Dr who will help me.
"Does anyone know any Drs in Perth that are pro-VBAC?" :smiliedance:
xxx Mish
I know of a couple of doctors who are pro vbac - pm me if you wish to discuss.

i would suggest
Perth Birthplace Support Group Inc (and Fremantle Community Midwives)
80 Canning Highway
Fremantle WA 6158
Phone (0 8 ) 9319 8043
or chatting with an independent midwive, they are usually more than happy to help you out.
most hospitals will have strict set of guidlines for VBAC's (not that you have to abide by them) so if you are going to use the hospital system again, quiz them on their protocols as early as you can. you can get them to send you out VBAC information (may be like getting blood out of a stone, but worth it)
or...independent midwife at a homebirth..that way there are no procedures to follow only your own guidelines.
all the best for the birth you want

Hi Mish, I have recently (5 May) had a VBAC at KEMH, using the Team Midwife program. They were excellent. I had the birth that I wanted and as I was a public patient I had a say in everything and could refuse if I wanted. (Like being induced because my waters had broken 12 hours earlier.)
You get to see the same team of 8 midwives for whole pregnancy, birth and afterwards.
You can go as a private patient at kemh and have a OB, but I would suggest using the midwives.
Good Luck Alisa
Thanks everyone for the advice :yelclap:
I have found one, Dr Ian Churchward in Mt Lawley and he delivers at Osborne Park. Very strange as I was born there myself, anyway, am very excited to have found one.
Good Luck to me :smiliedance:

Hi Mish
Dr Churchwood is fantastic - he was the GPOb I saw for incidentals last year, when I was planning my HBA2C, he didnt seem bothered by my plans at all! In fact he just said for me to book another appointment with him if I went a week overdue to assess where I was at.....he was very laid back. Which was extremely encouraging. He has had a pretty good relationship with the IMWs, and trusts their judgements. My IMW referred all of her clients to him if they needed anything during pregnancy.
Have you been to a Birthrites meeting? I may have met you if you have ;) We have lots of info, advice and contacts for birthing

Hi Mish, just sent you a pm before I read here. Another one who has heard good things about Dr Churchwood. I like GP obs, had one for the first two. My reasoning is they can't do ceasers so therefore will only give you one if you really need one.
Regards Alisa
