Hi,

I have a 5 month old bub, we are looking to start her on solids in a few weeks. At the moment she has 4 bottles a day. How many bottles do they generally have once solids start? I get the feeling it goes something like this:

- Breakfast, milk then solids
- Morning tea, solid and water
- Lunch, milk then solids
- Arvo tea, solid and water
- Dinner, milk then solids
- Before bed another bottle

Am I on the right track?

Hi MumofMash,

This is only from my experience, but it has worked well for us. I would continue with the 4 bottles a day and add one feed of solids either after the morning tea bottle or the afternoon bottle. Then slowly increase to two then 3 solid meals a day. Try to give the solids within the same hour after his bottle, he may want to give up a bottle later, but for now milk is still his main food supply. The routine you put down is what you will aim for eventually, but it may be a while away. A lot of bubs stay on 4 bottles till about 9 months I think, others go to three much earlier, he will let you know by drinking much less at one of those feeds. I would continue to offer the milk first, but that will change as well, I am not sure when though!

We now have cereal after morning milk, then lunch at around 11 after his bottle, then his last solids after his late afternoon sleep at around 5, then a bottle before bed at 7.

I hope that helps a little, Kez
