OMG I am having one of those days.......................

Our car broke down so while DH went off to organize to get it fixed I opted to take bub home on public transport.........Big Mistake lol (its either laugh or cry!)

As it was raining (to add to my dliema) I decided to take two buses instead of the train (as the bus stops at our door) any way to cut a long story short O had a KONG type tantie!!!!

On Bus1: He started biting me and laughing and he never bites  then when I took my hand away so he couldnt reach it and therefore couldnt bite me he whacked me across the face  x 5 as he never hits me!

On Bus 2: He threw himself on the floor of the bus kicking and screaming, hitting and biting at me like a crazy person!!! I was at my wits end, then this guy sat down across from us and said "hello" to O and O just stopped and was a complete angel the whole ride home??????? What the?

I do not know where this behaviour has come from, yes he has had tanties before but like I said he doesnt bite or hit!

He started back at day care on Monday so Im thinking maybe his not coping with the change etc........................I am at a loss, my beautiful gentle yet active bub has turned into 'KONG' for real !!!!

HELP :(

You can never win with a child throwing a whammy in public. My eldest son had possessed-like moments at times too. I hate to sound like I am blaming someone else but he only started with his weird behaviour after starting daycare. They pick up sooooo much from other kids.
My son doesn't go anymore (he only went once a week) as it is starting to cost too much. Since he has stopped going his behaviour is much more predictable and he hasn't had a cold in ages.

All you can really do is work out how you will combat his behaviour if he ever does it again. My other bit of advice - try and avoid the bus again for a while:rolleyes:

Hi Tracey,

Thanks for your reply I just need to vent :o as I am so totally physically and emotionally drained right now........................:(

O started daycare (2 days a week) about 8 months ago and has been fine but since getting back from holidays (and now that his a little older 18months etc ) I think he is picking up some challenging behaviours

I actually work at the day care centre he attends (as Im an E.C teacher) and have about 8 years experience in the industry(not that any of it helped me today  ) so I know how easy it is for kids to pick up negetive behaviour.

I am too exhausted to think what to do and DH is still not home from the mechanics.

O is as we speak is in bed ( He usually has 4 hours naps during the day) but at kindy he is barely sleeping 2 hours so perhaps he is tired??????

S

btw your right about the bus trips..........Never again

Hey Sarah

Sorry to hear you had such a bad day. :(

I have caught buses with J since she was born and she used to be an angel. Just loving the movement and all the people. Lately though it has become a bit of a drama. She just wants to get up all the time and when I tell her that she has to stay on my lap with me - well the tantie begins!! I make sure I always have a snack or little toy in my bag and try to distract her.;)

Like you said though - maybe he is adjusting to not sleeping as much in the day....let's hope so, hey!

lol, great idea DM, i wish i had thought of that! :p
S, you poor thing, it is sooo embarressing when they chuck a tantie in public, particulary somewhere like a bus, where you cant remove them from the situation, try to distract them etc, believe me, i know:o although like O, coops doesnt hit or bite either (unless his older brother or sister get in reach, he has been known to take a swipe at them!!) he just squeals, screams, throws his arms around and lies down on the floor kicking his legs, very subtle;)
but i am thinking, if its not something O usually does (hitting, biting etc) i think you might be on the right track, if he is at daycare and is observing other kids tantrum styles, he might be thinking to himself 'oh gee, that got a good reaction, must remember to try that one on mum, especially if we are somewhere public and confined, like a bus' :o
anyway, im sorry you had such a lousy day, tuck your gorgeous little man into bed and see if dh will give you a nice neck and shoulders massage or something!

Oh dear S, what a nightmare day!
Sounds like O saved up that one for a "really" public showing!
Like you said it's probably a combination of him getting used to being back at daycare and getting used to having less sleep during the day.
I'm sure it was a one-off and things will settle down soon.
Sorry to come into this so late, I hope the rest of your day was better! :)

Thanks girls for all your replies I was having a very bad day LOL what an understatement!

I have figured out what was wrong with O, a combination of things really.
1. Starting back at day care
2.Not getting enough sleep during the day
3. He is now sleeping on a bed at kindy (coz his so big LOL) and he has had a nasty allergic reaction which has been building up over the last few days (he is highly allergic to dustmites) and as the beds are close to the floor he is getting a reaction from the carpet (dont know why I didnt think of it earlier  )
His face is all splotchy and he has very bad Rhinitis at the moment (similar to hayfever only caused by dustmites)

I had to rock him to sleep last night the poor little guy couldnt get to sleep. So I have given him some phenergen to settle the reaction down and hopefully his behaviour will be better now that I know whats causing all the trouble.

I guess its back to the cot at day care for a while yet.
