Hi all new to this site. First time mum of 10 week old bub. He is sleeping brillinatly at night, has now been having a last feed at 10pm and then sleeps though till 7am ish, however, during the day (all day and right up to this last feed) he is very hard to settle to sleep, he refuses to be put down at all between 7-10pm and will only sleep if in our arms? We have the basic feed play sleep thing happening, but most sleeps excpet one aftrenoon one he wakes up after 45mins and it can take ages to resettle him. He will also not go off to sleep without being put to sleep by us, eg cannot just put him down! Also can anyone give me advice about whe to stop wrapping and try the sleeping bag? He seem to wake up more easily when not wrapped.... ? I know lots of questions but HELP please. Thanks in advance, B.

sounds like you are doing great and doing all the right things, I am a first time mum aswell, to a 10 month old daughter! I went through a similar phase as you, I just perserved with trying to get her into a routine- I would try to get her to sleep around 9ish- 11am and then down again by 1pm-3pm (give an hour either side). I would always make sure she is bathed in readiness for bed at 7pm- it took months before she actually got the hang of going to bed at a decent time but she just somehow fell into it.

At around the same age as your baby the only way she would go to sleep was on my shoulder with me walking around and around, but that only lasted a couple of weeks. My advice is always remember that whatever little phase they are in they will be out of it in no time! So don't despair and just go with it the best you can.

Re: wrapping- they say to keep wrapping a baby up to 6 months, my daughter never seemed to want to stay wrapped and would wriggle out all the time, so I am not too sure!

I hope I have helped!!

We were having major sleep problems with Bailey when he was younger. We visited the sleep clinic 3 times. They suggest at 10 weeks you should be working on a 3 hour routine, 1.5 hours up including feeding and 1.5 hours sleep time. This can vary depending on tired signs ect.

We were told you should stop wrapping at around 12 weeks of age, but everyone has a different opinion. Bailey was being wrapped but we moved him to a sleeping bag at 12 weeks and he was fine, our main problem was he was in his bassinett and waking himself up by hitting the sides, he was obviously to small.

If you keep having problems I would call you local sleep clinic and see if you can get in for a day stay.

hi
wow that sounds so familiar!! my ds is 6 weeks old and sleeps well at night last feed also at 10 sleeping through til about 6 or so but isnt sleeping much at all during the day and it is starting to drive me crazy:banghead: ...
I think ds has wind and today as i usually do i attempted to put him down he slept for 30 min then woke up crying. i picked him up and held him upright and he did a huge burp and let out a few farts too! and i resettled him and put him back down and he is still asleep. :fingerscrossed: fingers crossed he will sleep for a couple of hours.
i so know how you feel it can be frustrating but maybe this is your bubs problem to? i always burp ds well after a feed , obviously not enough hay...so i am gonna keep trying to burp him better i also give him drops before a feed, maybe this is has been ds' prob all along!

hey there your bub sounds exactly like mine, excellent night sleeper but terrible day sleeper and will only sleep if being held by me or DH! i feel your pain but try the usual 'put down in cot and rock to sleep' routine coz i am trying that at the moment and it seems to be working for my DD. she is now 14 wks old and for the last couple of days we are trying to get her to sleep in her cot rather than be rocked to sleep in our arms coz she is just getting too heavy. i put her in her cot, wrap the blanket firmly round her legs (don't fully wrap her coz she hates it), i sit next to the cot and jiggle the cot while patting her thigh area and making shooshing sounds. the first time i tried this she screamed blue murder for about 15 mins and i had to pick her up as i couldn't stand it, but the next couple of times i tried it, she full-on screamed for about 5 mins, whinged for another 5-10 mins and then drifted off to sleep but kept opening her eyes for another 10-15 mins just to make sure i was still there. i know i'm supposed to leave the room before she actually falls asleep but i'm taking things gradually and once she falls asleep in the cot rather than my arms without too much fuss, i'll try leaving before she falls asleep! i hope this works for you too as i know how hard it is to have a bub that you just cannot put down! also i have read in many places that some babies will only sleep max 45 mins during the day and if they wake up happy not cranky, then that's all the sleep they need and it's easier to accept that they'll only have short day sleeps rather than try and resettle them. dunno if this is true but all the books say so!

oh i also meant to say i agree with what someone said earlier about wind, DD always had her sleep interrupted by burping and farting no matter how hard we tried to get the wind out of her before we put her down, she is much better now so i think this is just something they have to outgrow :(
