Hi, Our baby is due in April and my husband & I are REALLY struggling to agree on names. We don't know the sex of bub so I wanted to have at least 2 boy & 2 girl names ready to take into the hospital with us when the time comes so that our bub won't go nameless for days..... I am pretty compromising but hubby can't give any serious suggestions and always finds an aweful schoolyard nickname to use against almost every name I pick. I have written countless lists of possibilities but still nothing. Can someone tell me how you agree on a name & could you suggest some for me maybe?

Both sit down, write the names you like on a separate piece of paper and see what you both come up with.

If he can't stop being stupid just tell him you are going to name it yourself and he has no say in the matter.

I have already told my partner that since he gets to choose the baby's surname then I get to choose the first name!

I am definitely finding out the sex of my baby because its hard enough without having to find names for both. All the names I have ever liked have flown out of my head at the moment (preggy brain).

Good Luck! Can't wait to see what you decide.

We too also had a similar problem as we didn’t know the sex of our bub either. So we had many names written everywhere. But as soon as the bub was born the moment he cried out loud we know almost immediately that Thomas IS the one and we both said it at the same time, “Thomas” lol it’s kinda cute to think about it now.

So good luck with the decision, you guys WILL know the right name before you know it! :D

Belinda, DH and I had the same probs and by the time bubs came we had 4 girls names we agreed on and only 1 boys name! And we still weren't convinced on that - lucky we had a girl and like Thomasmum we both knew straight away that she was Charlotte - brings a tear to my eye remembering that!:)

Maybe tell us some of your names so we can see what type you are after?

DH has said for our next one he likes Remi for a girl and Pacey for a boy!! Not too sure on those!? I've picked Oliver for a boy and Olivia and Layla for girls. I can never find boys names! Lucky we've still got a long way to go yet, before we have to choose!!:D

We are expecting our second in a month's time and having the same problem. We had a girls name already picked out for our first and are still in agreeance that she will be named Chloe if we have a girl this time round.

Hubby and I cannot agree at all on boys names. I wanted our first to be named Kai, which he hated and the only name we could agree on was Jake. Our baby was named Jake for the first two days and after hearing it I hated it and we made the snap decision to change it to Luke. Now I am so glad we did but still wish that I would have pushed more for him to be named Kai.

My advice is if hubby can't offer any serious suggestions you get to choose. Let's not forget, you have to do all the hard work. :)

always finds an aweful schoolyard nickname to use against almost every name I pick.

As annoying as it may seem he is actually doing your bubs a favour - kids can be so cruel with schoolyard taunts.

Good luck with the names - let us know if we can help with suggestions/opinions etc if that's what you want to do :)

Kids can come up with nick-names for other kids based on all sorts of things - their last name, the way the look, an event or activity....

But anyway... we used the 'brainstorming' technique. We knew we were having a boy and we went through the book and wrote down anything that could be a possibility - that at least one of us liked. (We went through the book in one night. I told DP that we might have to do this every night until we get to Z and that got him motivated!!!).
I had a big long list that I stuck up near my desk at work and another one on the fridge at home and we slowly started crossing them off. I seriously considered DP's choices too and didn't just cross them off. Eventually I got my list down to about 8 names and said pick one!

Also, at the same time we were working backwards and decided on a second middle name first so the first name and middle name had to flow with that. It also helped that we made up 'rules' to follow, eg, no family names for first name, no unisex names, no names that have other meanings eg, Nick, Mark, Bill, etc.. (I would have broken the 'rules' for a name I loved though. They were just convienient when DP came up with silly suggestions - like MARLIN!!)

Hi Belinda

This site has the top 100 boys & girls names for 2004 in QLD and top 10 for 2005.

Hope it gives you both some inspiration.

Good Luck! :)

Hi Belinda,
I had the same trouble with my husband when I was pregnant with Vallerie... before we knew her gender, the only name he liked was "Willis"... And then once we knew she was a girl he had no suggestions whatsoever. So I made a shortlist of 5 names I loved, and took it with us to the hospital. After she was born, and he was holding her, looking at her, falling in love with her, I let him choose a name for her from my shortlist.

Having said all that, I was the one who filled out the birth registration form, so if he'd picked something I didn't like, I would have changed it!!:p

Wow, it's really hard isn't it. The only 2 MAYBE names that are on DH's list are:
April for a girl and Adam for a boy.
Bub is due in april so would that be really corny? I kinda like that one.
My faves are: Ruby, Gracelin, Charlotte, Alita, Lindsay(girl), Harrison, James, Mitchell, Nicholas, Thomas
HELP:eek:
