Hi all, am newly pregnant (haven't seen a doctor yet but have done 4 pregnancy tests and am around 4 weeks....i think!!). My gyno Claire Petterson no longer does OB so need to find another. I live in Bentleigh now but am moving over to Point Cook in a few months. Am thinking of the Royal Womens or St.Vincents Private for delivery.....help!! This is all so new!

KLM...Welcome and congratulations of your pregnancy...I saw Dr Lionel Steinberg when I was pregnant and he is wonderful...I just think he's the best...I have also heard good things about Dr Grant Saffer and Dr David Freiden...You'll just have to check where the later two (Saffer and Freiden) deliver. I know that Lionel delivers at both the hospitals you are wanting to go...
Good luck and if you want to know more you can email me at shtrause@hotmail.com

I had Meredith Tassone and she was very good. She can be found on Victoria Pde, Fitzroy. She delivers at St Vincents and I'm sure she also delivers at the Royal Womens.

Hey congrats, that's great news! I can recommend Dr Pregs Pillay very highly and I think he delivers at a few of the central Melb hospitals (I delivered at Mercy). He delivered my daughter Estelle last October and was fantastic. If you're after more info, contact Lisa (bookings) on 9439 1396... or PM me if you like!

Congrats. I can highly recommend Dr David O'Callaghan. His rooms are located at St. Vincent Private and he also works out of Freemasons....he was just wonderful. I always felt totally on control and I was able to help deliver my baby when I was pushing Noah out, by David helping me put my hands on Noahs body to help pull him out. He made the delivery a great experience.
I also live in Point Cook, so enjoy your move

Hi Ladies,
thanks so much CredibleWitness, i called today and made an appt with Dr Pregs! feeling a lot better now i am booked in somewhere and that they will book me in at St V's.
Noahsmummy - was there much 'out of pocket' expense with your Ob? i've called a few and gather that some will be more expensive than others etc.

At the time David charged me about $1600.00 out of pocket expenses, being for his care prior to the birth of my baby and my six week check up afterwards(i'm not sure if he has now put it up or not as I booked in to see him last Feb, my little boy is now 4 months). Out of this $1600.00 I think that I received about $1100.00 back from Medicare (this put me over the safety net threshold!!!!!!). All my in hospital Ob. expenses were taken care of as he is a no gap Ob for MBF otherwise I would of been up for a lot more, well in excess of two thousand dollars just for him delivering my baby. He also came and saw me every day that I was in hospital (I'm not sure if that would of been charged for or not as it was fully covered by my private health insurance as in hospital care. So at the end of the day I think I was about $500.00 out of pocket for my Ob and my excess for the hospital.
At the end of it I think though that it is really important that you feel comfortable with the care that you receive.

i called today and made an appt with Dr Pregs! .
Good stuff, say hello to Lisa and Dr Pillay when you see them (from Estelle's mum!)... I found his fees to be lower than the other obs I was looking at, and it sounds as though you will have all the co-payments in the same calendar year and therefore get the maximum value out of your medicare safety net.
I really liked Dr Pillay's approach, he was very open to whatever I had in mind for the birth - I was originally concerned that having a private ob would mean I would be a greater chance for a caesar, but my first appointment with Dr Pillay laid these fears to rest. Also I liked his approach to pain relief etc.
We were so thankful for him being at the birth because my daughter came out pretty suddenly (labour < 4hrs) and her heartrate dropped off so she therefore went up on the paediatrics table once she had been born... there were midwives and paeds running around madly but Dr Pillay was as cool as a cucumber and my husband and I took our read off him (otherwise we would have been freaking out) ie nothing to be concerned about - sure enough after a bit of oxygen and some suction bubs was fine...

Well, i had my first visit with Dr Pregs today and he is great! Felt instantly comfortable with him as did my partner, so that was good. He even did an ultra sound so we could see the tiny little blob that will be our baby sometime in September!!! I saw all the photos of the little bubs in his office, so will look out for Estelle!
Thanks and best wishes!
