Hi

I'm finding it hard deciding which group to join as most people in these groups look to already have multiple children.

The reason I have a problem here is that I'm having symptoms that they say, 'usually don't occur until 3rd Trimester', 'first child normally doesn't show until into your 2nd Trimester'. I've talked to my GP and she don't seem concerned but it would be nice to chat with other woman my age having their first.

Also I'm going for my Amnio in over a week and I was wandering how other woman found it.

I also didn't do an U/S at 12 weeks. The doctors (not GP, I was dealing with a few people) checked me with the wand a couple of times and said 'yes there definately is a baby and look at that it's growing' (great doctors and I'm very happy with them they helped me with my problems and did a very successful job) but when I saw my GP last week to ask about pelvic pain and hip pain she wandered about the size of my uterus and my due date...some question of 'you're not having twins are you?' and 'what did my 12 week U/S say?'. You can imagine my embarrassment when I couldn't tell her and that the baby looked fine using the wand.

Sorry I'm sort of dumping everything as the next coupld of weeks look to be a bit stressful.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

r. Sam

Firstly congratulations on your news.

I may be good to have a chat with as yes i have three kids but had Amelia at 37 after a 13 year gap so it was like starting over.

You must be very excited and DH too. Mine is 5 yrs younger than me too, so hey a few things in common!

An amnio is OK. Fine needle, bit of discomfort, that's all.

Rest afterwards!

Thank you all for responding. The Amnio information was helpful. I keep thinking of a big fat needle.

Feeling much calmer today. At 15 weeks it is obvious I'm pregnant.

I forgot to mention - Ask for a FISH when they do the amnio. Instead of having to wait up to three weeks, you get a reliable preliminary result in 24 hours.

So much better for the nerves than waiting it out.

When I had it done, there was no medicare rebate, but the $150-ish I paid was so very worth it for the peace of mind.

Thank you again. Just had the test and all went well, if a little scary. They will be doing the FISH and I will have my results on Friday morning.
x-fingers everything goes well.
