Just curious as to what and how often parents get there older children to help around the house with chores and stuff. Like dishes and folding washing etc.

Hi, I think its a great idea I will definately be getting my kids into it more when they are a bit older, ATM my kids have four jobs written on a whiteboard, witha little drawing next to it, cos they cant read yet, and they do it every morning.
1. Make bed ( they are getting really good at it)
2. Open curtains
3. Brush teeth
4. Pj's under pillow
They are so awesome at it now that I am going to add another little job or 2.
Sounds mean but they are sooo proud of themselves after they do them, they make me close my eyes and they lead me to their room and I act very suprised to see what a great job they have done!!

As we have varying age sfrom 4 to 16, each child has a written list of rules and regulations appropriate to their age. I use a star chart syste with them all too.
Older kids help with garbage disposal, putting away dishes and clothes and basic hygeine & clanliness of their own bedrooms and bathroom, make beds etc. I give a really good clean once a week, sometimes longer:o
They also earn stars for offering or accepting other household or gardening jobs or helping out with younger kids.
I try not to expect too much but still install basic tools for survival when older IYKWIM I want the to stay kids for as long as possible cause in the context of an entire life it is a really short period that i'm sure many wish they could return to. :hugs:
