Ruri has been like clockwork since she was 3 months old. She hasn’t gone for 48 hours now. Her tummy is firm and slightly swollen. When should I be concerned shes 17 months old and has been eating normal amounts and drinking plenty of water and juice. She continues to have wet nappies but no poo.

Should I be concerned?

What happens if no poo tomorrow?

Any info will help.

Thanks
Kaylene

Unless she is grunting and straining there is not too much to be worried about. Try her on some prune juice and try to give her heaps of fruit (dried fruit is great).
If she is still not going you could try her on some 'Coloxal' drops from the chemist. They are very gental and made for babies.
Good luck

i would be careful with the prunes...
my bub was constipated for a few days so i was giving him stewed prunes then the next three days we were in hospital with gastroenteritis...
i didnt give him too much just a bit a day.. he might have just had a reaction to them.. but i would go to the doctors and check it out...

My DD is only 8months old & I put 1-2tbs of Prune Juice () in her cereal of a morning. It just works to soften the bowel motions.

I'm sorry your bub had a reaction Helen, thats not good at all. If you do try it, just put a tbs or so in as they are only little.

Kaylene,

I asked a paed once about constipation. She told me that if Bub hadn't done a poo within a 72hr period to take them to a medical professional.

So I guess if it hasn't hapened today you should pop down to your GP or your local A & E (unless you live in QLD because they probably isn't an Accident & Emergency dept. anymore!!! ).

My boys are like clockwork too. If they get off balance I give them plenty of water and fruit. It usually works. (so does chocolate:rolleyes: ).

I hope Ruri is Okay.

Thankyou all for your advice. Yes she finally did go the following day. Many times!.. Oh the smell... I noticed that afternoon 2 new BIG teeth just poking through the back gums. Poor little thing. All back to clockwork now. Phew.

Thanks again
Kaylene

Ps. Yes our poor hospitals :(
