We're going back to the same birth centre where we had DS as it was such an amazing, positive experience - The Angliss Hospital in Ferntree Gully, Melbourne.

That is my delima;

I live in Country NSW and i can either take the pick of 2, one in the town i work about 25mins from home or one in the next town to where i live about 10 minutes from home, but here is the real delima,

If i pick work, i will have my over protective sis there everyday and if i pick home, i will have my in-laws whole family there everyday

Not really sure what to do?

Any advise?

GizmoKel - we had no trouble getting in at all. You need to book in early, but I just rang them today and we're in easily for Feb, plenty of places. I wouldn't leave it any more than a few weeks to ring them though. The sooner the better. They have 2 rooms, and because they are 24hr stay following birth, they turn the room over quickly enough. If you were unfortunate enough to have both rooms in use while in labour though, you have to go to delivery suites. The delivery suites at the Angliss are still very good though.

The Birth Centre middies are great, all very different but all very good and soooo supportive of your wishes and choices. No goal is impossible to them. They are really heavily into promoting natural childbirth.

Thanks for that info Elissas! I actually rang them today and got some info and now just have to talk to DH about it. Definetly going to the Angliss whether its the birth centre or delivery suites but last time we used our GP who delivers there so have to work out what option to choose.

Hey Everyone,

I think we'll be going to Hobart Private. I had been keen on the birth centre at the Royal Hobart but when I discovered that the private hospital offered a midwifery model of care and were very supportive of natural birth it kind of changed my mind. Having said that, if I find out they aren't really orientated towards natural birth I think I'll be changing my mind.

When do you all suggest booking? I'm only about 4 weeks, surely that is too early?

That's what I thought too MrsO (4 weeks too early). I think you can leave the hospital booking for ages actually. Maybe ring & see what they suggest?

I'm also looking for care supportive of natural birth, but I'll have a high risk pregnancy so have to have an OB. I'm going to arm myself with knowledge, a doula & a birthplan though.

I'll be going to our local hossy- just a 2 minute waddle (maybe 30min with contractions!) up the road from home.

I'm a country girl too Cin, so know what u mean about the lack of privacy! Maybe you just need to weigh up who you can put up with the least, sis or in-laws and go from there.

I work at our local hospital so will have to face all the staff popping in every 2 seconds!!

Still undecided - I want to go the birth centre route this time but Dh wants us to go back to where I had DS (they were wonderful, but I want to try for a more natural birth, more active at least).

Hi MrsO, i had my doc apt today- i am 6 wks 2 days and thought i had heaps of time, but doc told me to get moving on it as hospitals get booked out fast.
I am thinking of Cabrini in Malvern, vic. Anyone been there? I originaly asked my dr about birthing centres but she suggested a hospital would be just the same. What do others think?

I have asked to be referred to Kaleeya (part of Fremantle Hospital) - I had DD1 at King Edward Memorial in Subiaco and loved it but just a bit too far really so we are trying Kaleeya under the recommendation of friends. Oh it is public too...we received amazing public care last time so going that way again as I only just took out private last month so not covered anyway...
I will have shared care with my GP - who is fantastic!

I went through a birthing centre and when I compare my experience with other friends who went through the hospies, there is no comparison. If you are looking for a natural, intervention-free birth, then definitely go to a birth centre. The hospies are more the "business" end of the "industry".

In my experience the less you involve doctors in the process the better  After all, it's not a disease!!!

 I am delivering at the Royal Brisbane Womans Hospital - but they are soo soo busy my first visit is at 4 months!! So i have to do shared care with my local GP.. which i am a bit disopointed about as I wont get to see other mums so much.. But as long as we get looked after. My visits may increase as I get further towards the end.... The local hospital just changed there policy so that I cant share care with them this time around... Very dissopointed.. :banghead:

Well I am delivering at a WONDERFUL newish Hospital :yelclap:

Well after being told that it was almost impossible to get into Cabrini I called the day I found out i was preg at 4 wks and 2 days and guess what I managed to get in :smiliedance: I have booked with Dr Dennis Price as he has some excellent reviews online and I have heard that he has an excellent reputation.

Has anyone else booked into Cabrini and/or Dr Dennis Price?

Well, i have now decided that providing i can get in to the hosp closest to home i am going to go there. DH was born there and i have only heard good things about it lately.
Often you can b the only one, which means you nearly get the ward to yourself.

It is actually getting quite exciting now, which means i better book into the GP to get my referal :)

Hope all is going well for everyone

We're thinking Nepean Private.. but you guys have got me thinking... maybe I should book in now?

I have my 12 week appt with dr on friday 20/07, so if I wait to ask him I hope I'm not too late.

Has anyone booked in for classes yet, or do you book them in once you've booked the hospital in?

I really have no idea

We booked into classes yesterday when we went to our booking appointment at the hospital, but I'm fairly sure you don't have to book into classes that soon. Although you should definately look at booking your hospital if you are going to go private.
