Howdy All,
We are just starting to toilet train our two year boy. Has anyone got some pointers for us. Anything would be appreciated.

My daughter started potty training in Jan and is having only very rare accidents now....the best thing we did was put her straight into big girl undies which she chose herself and to be honest the worst thing we did was use a potty...wish we'd gone straight to the big toilet with a step and little loo seat, cleaning poo out of a potty is yeuch!!!! After a few weeks of reminding her to go we left her to decided herself, initially there were more accidents as she had to make her own decisions and sometimes even when we knew she needed to go but wouldnt we let her have an accident to help her learn, she soon got the idea, especially as we didnt make a big deal of the accidents and just cleaned them up but made a huge fuss of any success.

we are doing exactly as above with out 2 1/2 year old son. We have found it to be challenging! Our son is quite defiant, and a lot of teh time knows what he has to do, but would rather challenge us and 'have an accident'....
My only tip is 'persistance' !!

Thanks for your comments. We bought the seat that fits inside the big toilet and that seems to be a novelty. He started wearing terry towelling pants at kindy yesterday, but gets quite distressed, it seems, if he doesn't wear shorts over the top. He seems to run into his room and pee on the carpet (much to our delight), when he is wearing these pants at home.

My hubby who has a son from a previous relationship used a cork (or anything that floats) and it teaches the boys to aim and it makes it more fun for them to learn, he said before long they are happy to go by themselves (without anything floating).
I guess if it works it's worth a try.....best of luck
I fins lots of clapping and cheering helps so they look forward to the praise, but i thinthe best thing is to be relaxed, if you get flustered about accidents etc they will get very distressed. and i agree with the others about a seat for the toilet rather than a potty, my little one wants to sit on the toilet like everyone else. good luck :o

A girlfriend of mine put ping pong balls in the toilet and it worked a treat.

My daughter is 2 in 2 months and I would like to start toilet training.
What is the first step? I just have no idea how to go about this!!
I have been putting her on the potty and the toilet and turning the tap on to see if it helps and making wee noises... ssssss..... but nothing.
She will come and tell me when she needs to do a poo "Poo Poo" and I put her on the toilet and potty, but she has never done anything. I get sick of waiting and holding her on the toilet (haven't bought a cushion seat yet) so put the nappy back on and she does a poo.
Any tips? Do I need to buy a book on this or is it pretty straight forward? Where to start.. help!!????!!
