I have been bottle feeding my son since he was about 6 weeks. He has always drunk his bottle warm (not hot).

Just these last few weeks, he has been refusing it, by pushing it out of his mouth. I tried giving him water for one feed, because i just wasn't getting anything into him...and he took it!

I only heated the water a little bit to take the edge of it...as it had been in the fridge. I tried swapping the teats from the water to the formula....they are the exact same teats....and he took the formula straight away! How bizzare....he likes cold teats all of a sudden.

I was wondering if this was because he has started teething (he is 4 months)? (well the first part of the process where the teeth come down)....or if it's because maybe the teat is too hot after i heat the bottle in the microwave?...it doesn't feel hot.

Anyway...i've been doing this cold teat thing, but warm formula for the last few days and haven't had any problems with his pushing the bottle out of his mouth.

Bubs do bizzare things!

im actually having probs with my 10 month old son feeding because he is teething once again (arent 6 teeth enough?:p ) yesterday he only drank 1/2 a bottle...

i never considered putting the teat in the fridge or something to keep it cold for his gums... i am going to try that one! thanks...

he never has his bottle warmed up.. just room temp...

as for you son... he could well be teething... coby started around that time but the teeth didnt show up until 5.5 months...

thanks for the tip...

Both of mine got their first teeth at 4 months ... at this time I would often give them their bottle straight from the fridge ... they loved it!

I rarely heated bottles as often I would not have anywhere available to heat them when I was out, so I just got them used to it being cool/cold from early on ... it saved a heap of hassle! The only times they would have a warm one is if I wanted them to drop off to sleep quickly ... because they didn't normally have them heated, it worked a treat!

You don't put the teat in the microwave do you? Just the bottle?

Maybe bub is teething... I heat my bottle by standing it in a mug of hot water. Sometimes if I get distracted (like if he wees everywhere while I am changing his nappy) - I'll put the bottle in the freezer for a min or 2 to cool it down. DS doesn't seem to mind the cold teat either..

Microwaving teats can make them taste yucky - mmm, yes I tried it! Especially the yellow ones... euck.
