My DD has Slept with a pillow case since 3months ( comfort whilst undergoing CC!)

She is 5 - nearly 6 months now & lately we find that it is always over her head when she is asleep ~ even if i gently move it off her, when I check up on her it is back over her head!

I do not want to take it away from her completely as I've found this is the only way she will sleep

It has me worried though in regards to SIDS - at 6 months of age is she still at risk?
Do any other bubs out there do this?

Yes, she is still at risk. My DS is nearly 2 and he has only just in the last 3mths got a pillow.

At six months they still can't move enough or register in their sleep if something is over their face.

I wouldn't risk it.

I don't think I'd risk it either
DS got a pillow at 18mths, same time he went into a single bed. DD however, she is a tummy sleeper so she wont be getting a pillow until she is at least 2yrs old.

Maybe you could swap the pillow for a small, thin blanket? Or just give her the pillowcase?

Thanks guys - yeah it is only the pillow case she is having - not the whole pillow. She snuggles into it as it has my smell

But I have found every time I take it away from her that she wakes up hysterical looking for it ~ & won't go back to sleep without it!

sorry im with Trumpet on this one.

as a person who grew up hearing about SIDS because of my mum and dads best friends who lost their healthy, and happy daughter to SIDS at the age of 18 months, i have had it pounded into my head that any baby of any age is at risk and the best thing we can do is do everything we can to minimise it

Unpick it so it is not a 'bag'. That way she can have her comforter and you can rest easier.

could you maybe cut it up into small squares? so she can stil have it as a comforter with your smell, but she cant smother herself with it?

Any suggestions on getting rid of it??

Or put it UNDER the sheet so she can still smell it.

I was going to say, cut it, or sew it up even so its just a piece of material....

Good luck
