Hi Everyone

Just wondering if somebody could please tell me what approximate rate of pay Childcare Centres pay for part-time and casual positions? I have heard it's usual low rates but just need a starting point as I am considering a position in a childcare chain (not ABC!) and want to work out if it is viable!

I am unqualified.

ANy info be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

When I worked in a daycare center I was getting about $11 an hour full time. I was an unqualified worker too I think its different with what level of education etc.

Also I was doing a trainee-ship

i am a qual assistant and get $17 something an hour here in QLD. think it is pretty similar anywhere you go....

As casual it is about 18/19 comething an hour....that's as qual...

take a few dollars off for being unqualified...maybe 15 an hour...

just ring a centre and ask.....say that u are thinking of studying your certificate 3, but was wondering what the pay rate is for a qualified and unqualified....that way you know excatly!....that's hwta i would do :)

Shezi... nothing is wrong with ABC I just knew that if I wrote 'a childcare chain' people might think it was ABC and start saying things about them which is not what I wanted...and I didn't want to say who the company is as I don't feel that's important! That's all!!

In 1999 when I was 19 I was on $5.25 an hour, qld rates for trainee, of course that was a dodgy peppercorn centre, which is now a dodgy ABC Centre. not only that, when I finished 18 months early, they made me redundant due to not enough children. two weeks later ads in paper wanting a trainee. They got busted for having 3 Trainees in a period of 3 years, and to top it off.. asked me if I would help train the trainee!!!!
Crock of you know what!
ABC is shocking, i'm not talking about the staff at childcare centres I'm talking about the head managers who are so interested in placing too many children in rooms, and abusing the child/staff ratio. This is because they have shares and want more money!!
Absolutely not putting this on some of the hardworking carers at ABC Centres.
I am now a nanny, $18 hour.
