Usually in disaster relief situations, if you have lost food I think they do offer some sort of assistance....

Might be worthwhile finding out!!

If you have home and contents insurance you can claim for food that's lost.

I think if you have been without power for 48 hours straight, then you can claim the assistance....:detective:

Not 100% sure - my SIL was enquiring about it cause they were without power from Friday lunchtime until today lunchtime....

I hate to tell you this but they wont pay out the disater relief money just for having no power and losing food from the freezer etc.
If you contact your energy supplier and ask for the phone number for their insurance company then they have been either sending you a cheque or taking it off your next bill.

I went through a flood last year. To qualify for the payment, your house had to have gone under water and be in the 'areas' that they deemed the payment went to. Our street was listed (and we went under) so we qualified.
Also insurance covered all our food in the pantry and fridge and chest freezer but they have maximum limits..of course!
