Hi all

I've posted this in the general health thread but no replies, so think it might be more approrpriate here.

My DS (4 1/2 yr old) recently came up with a huge top lip, it swelled to about four times its size. (He actually looked like a duck poor thing). No other symptoms.

We took him to the doc who said it was something called angio oedema and is usually related to eating strawberries or kiwifruit, neither of which he'd eaten.

He had been playing in his room and crawled under his bed so I'm wondering if it could be dust?

Anyone had anything similiar?

Also, has anyone experienced allergy testing with their DS/DD? Have had it done myself and although not painful, can't imagine how I'll convince DS to sit still. Just wondering if they do it differently for kids?

Thanks for your help.

My DS just had miniscule amounts of suspected allergents(??) placed on his skin not with a needle at approx age 2. Apparently not as concise but becuase ws not life threatening was sufficient.

My DD had a swollen lip that spread to her nasal passages, we had been picking flowers and some were digitalis (in UK) which she had transferred to her nose. We just have antihistimines on hand now as she suffers hives and funny reactions. She doesn't eat fruit or veg though which is extremely frustrating ad I am trying to build her immune system up which also helps apparently.

Thanks PunkyDiva. I thought the reaction must be to more than just strawberries and kiwifruit. I'm convinced it was dust and from what you've said sounds like it can be other things.

Thanks also for the info about testing.

I also know what you mean about eating fruit and veg. We're slowly getting there with that but it takes a lot of patience. I've found the best method for us is for me to have something on my plate at dinner time and not on his and then let him have a taste as if it's a treat! (Well it works sometimes...)
