Hi all,
I was just wondering what kind of experiences people have had getting into a mothers group? I recently moved to Perth (bub was 6 wks at the time) and was unable to get into a mothers group until he is 4 months old, which isn't until May :( and even then the closest ones are booked up so i have to travel to Swanbourne which is a fair distance away.
Have other mothers had these problems or is it a WA thing? Should we contact our local politicians and get this fixed??
peace

Hi Nel,
I decided to move from Melbourne to Perth when I was 23 almost two years ago when my bub was 6 months old for a better lifestyle.
There are other things to fill your days until you get into a playgroup.
Try Gymbaroo, swimming lessons, There is a playgroup/school group called Montessori also but i'm not sure of starting ages. I find most programs follow the general school terms and the next one begins in April.
My son is now 2 but i'd be happy to catch up sometime. I'm in Ascot. Where are you? Maybe we could start our own get together. :)

hi lou,
sounds good, we should see if some more Perth mummas want to get together, I'm in Nedlands but study in Mt Lawley so either place would be good :)
thanks again

I have an 11months old girl and I was wondering if anyone here has a baby that age to whom i can talk to and share experiences. I haven't got friends with babies as I'm only 20 and none of may sibilings have babies either so Im looking for other mother who i can become friends with.

Hi marcia
My name is sarah & I have an 11 month old son called Kye. I am 25. I am not yet in Perth I am moving there in June from London, my partner is an aussie. His family are in Ballajura, we will be staying in High Wycombe for two weeks and then looking NOR after ( maybe Quinns?) I am like you, none of my friends have babies or my sister, and I am a bit shy of mums groups, don't know why?!!!
I would love to meet up when I get there, the only others I will know will be in laws & you know how that can be!!! :)
If you fancy keeping in touch until I get there that will be cool,
littlenods@hotmail.com is my email.
Look forward to hearing from you!
Love sarah xxx

Hi Nel
I went to the Swanbourne mothers group when my son was 2 weeks old and can highly recommend it. Having been to two mother's groups (we moved when Lachlan was 8 weeks old so I went to my local mothers group when he was 14 weeks old) I found the Swanbourne one great as we had a small group of five (other group had 15 mums & bubs) so we became quite close and could chat amongst ourselves. Tonia (the Child Health Nurse) was very approachable too. We had a mum from Nedlands in our Swanbourne group, I think the problem is that there are not the same numbers of new mums in the western suburbs as in other areas so the Child Health Centres don't run individual groups unless they have the numbers and Swanbourne gets them because they have 2 nurses who job share.
Hope this helps even though it's a while after your original post.
