I'm wondering when separation anxiety normally develops and how you deal with it. DD is almost 12 months old and is just showing signs now. I'm glad she loves me enough to miss me when I leave the room (!) but it's very frustrating at the same time. She just woke from her afternoon nap a bit upset (teething I think) so I went in and gave her a cuddle, put her back down, she was fine but as soon as I walked out the door she screamed. And this morning when I was packing the car to go out, as soon as I was out of her sight she started crying. She has plenty of exposure to other people and is not really clingy. She only seems to show signs when she is alone with me. Is it a phase, like everything else, that will pass?

DD started this around 3 1/2 months and she is now just over 6 months and she is still really bad.....its not so much when i leave the room but its when i give her to other people....sometimes even DF. I hate it cause everyone wants to give her a cuddle and i'm like no juts leave it cause i don't want to hear her crying :P It makes it really hard to have some time on my own.... All i can say is just wait till it passes as it is just meant to be a phase.....a very long one at that :P

Mya goes through stages of separation anxiety.. initially it was just when i left the room, and she has gotten over that (most of the time), then the stranger danger thing started, crying as soon as anyone different touched or held her.. not its a when i'm tired, asleep or hungry dont dare put me down!

I too am hoping this phase will pass! i know its a natural stage of their development.. so i am just doing what needs to be done!

I try and look at it in a good light, by thinking one day probably in her growing years, she will wake up and think i'm now uncool or no fun, and want to be around either people - so whilst she is like this, i'm happy to accept the cuddles!
