Just wondering if those of you who have large families considered your finances before continueing to add to your family or did you just not worry about it?

We have always wanted a larger family and never really considered our finances because to us a large family is more important.

I mean were not poor and will cope but I was just curious what considerations you made before having a larger sized family?

Have a happy day:wave:

Nope, can't say I did. Neither DH nor I came from families with much money, so I guess it didn't really occur to us to worry about it. Things were a bit tight when no.4 came along, and hey, we have tight times still (like at the moment :( ), but we would have those if we only had 2 kids I reckon!
Good luck with your choices.

Yep...we considered it. Our last baby was a massive surprise and wondered whether we would "cope" financially but in the end..you just learn to give up one thing so you can have another thing if thats what needs to be done.
Our baby was more important to us than money...but yeah there was a moment or six where i said "oh sh!t".........

i havent thought about it actually i come froma family of 6 and learnt to grow up sharing and seeing mum budget so picked up her tips :) my kids dont go without though but they dont get everything they want either we make our own budget fun at a home :)
The only concern for me now with bub 4 on the way is a car

We have 4 and are TTC #5 and I guess we did consider finances a bit but DF has a good salary and one last bub won't require a bigger car or anything like that and the ongoing costs are more than manageable :)

Nope, not at all. Babies 3 and 4 were oopsies, lmao. But if we had considered finances, we would have definately stopped after 2. I think that there is always a way to afford to have more children, you just can't see it until after they are already on their way.

Thanks Guys.

Nothing will stop us from going for #4 but I was just wondering what parents of other larger sized families thought.

I know we will end up with more and I know we will manage.

The only thing I am a little concerned about is that I won't know when to stop:confused: ;)

If we just had our allotted two kids yes we would be rolling in money but have less then half the smiles and love so NO,finances was never really a factor.
More so this time around how we would all cope physically and emotionally.
I have slow tracked my career and study goals as I want more children but otherwise we never use large family or too many kids as an excuse to not do something.
You only get one go at this so give it everything and more!!

Not where I live. 45k's one way to the shops, 13k's one way to the school. No public transport AT ALL. :gloomy:

Not really. We had to get another car after #4... but we needed to upgrade anyway. We built a new house after #5... as we lived in a 3 bedroom duplex until #5 was walking.
We eat more pasta now rofl, less meat.

Some months are worse than others (December is stressful for me... ) BUT... all the kids share really well, and I think the positives out-way any negative you can think of.

Money comes and go's, Love to and from your children is eternal :)

I hope you live in a really beautiful, peaceful place to make up for all the driving involved.:hugs: I hate driving so having none was not a real hardship and even now I contemplate selling mine cause it's just a money pit that spends most weeks in the garage.

wish I had really thought a bit more about the money side of things, especially now with 5 of them in school, but we get by.. we have the tight months... dec/jan (christmas and school starting) then april/may for birthdays (most of them are all close)

we had to upgrade the car coz we went from 3 to 5... we were only going to have 4, but it was twins... #6 was a BIG suprise and oopsie.. but luckily she was a girl after 5 boys LOL then had to upgrade again for #6 as we only had a 7 seater, but the car was on its way out... we then traded that one for a fuel guzzler!!! (now on gas and its GREAT!!!)

These kids are spoilt a fair bit, and if it wasnt for my mum and brother, I doubt they would have as much as they do.

they are clothed and fed well, and have toys and electronic stuff, so we arent that bad... will be better once we pay this darn car off!! LOL

Kids under 6 are cheap LOL... after that.... it gets more and more expensive...

My dad would always harp on about the cost, and I was fine with it... until about 1 year ago... well when the twins started pre-primary!! too late now, they are all here... and of course I wouldnt change a thing.

next year will have two in highschool and all 6 in school... now thats going to be fun...

We went from 2 to 4 (twins) and although it was a MASSIVE surprise and shock at the time, I think we're really glad it happened. No we are! We pondered and pondered over having another 1 but got 2 anyway. I know its going to be testing when they're all at school and they will be in private education so that's going to be - shall we say - EXPENSIVE. But wherever there's a will there's a way.

I am sure its only going to be more and more fun as they get older. We're never going to be bored! So the saying goes - the family that plays together stays together.

I come from a family of 7kids but hubby is an only child. We always agreed on 4,but now number 5 is on the way...that is it no more.

I way i think about it is you only have 1 life so make to most of it.....no good wanting more kids when its to late in life so just go for it.

We just upgraded the car before number 4 was born owell have to make do....me in not driving a bus.

I've only got one so far, but we've put in our order for at least 4 :). I'm the eldest of seven and, though my father and then stepfather were both on good salaries, we still had to share, and Mum was always good with money. We never went without, but were never spoilt. Take-away was always a treat, and if we went shopping sometimes mum would buy a can of drink for us to share!
She reckons that once you get past four, you don't notice how many you've got, and a few of her friends with larger families say the same. I'm looking forward to having a big family, so I guess we are looking now at what we are spending money on to make sure that we aren't in debt and can always provide for our children no matter how many we have.
(btw. being the eldest is great - no hand me downs!!!)

Well Im only in the begining stages of starting our extra large family (Pregnant with no2 now) & I've been working out our finances. Whether we can afford it or not isn't the issue for me. Its how we are going to afford it. Planning for the future etc..
I am certainly looking forward to it!! :smiliedance:

No not really

I always wanted to have a large family and DH is fine with that. And we got that with my last PG as it was twins

I told him before we got married that I wanted lot's of kidlets and that I would be a SAHM until all the kidlets are at full time school. I would like to have one more  but I still have to work on DH.

He should just give up now cause I always get my own way :devil6:
