ok .. so JAck isn't 'done'

I had no interest in having him done - so that isn't the issue here.

Tonight I took Jack to the dr ... he somehow got a cut in the skin on the end of his penis
(my thinking .. is swingset + nappy free time = not a good idea?)
.. anyway .. I went .. cause its getting nasy (not getting enough dry time??) and the gp I saw offered antibiotic cream - but then asked me IF I PULLED HIS FORESKIN BACK REGULARLY TO CLEAN... ??

ummm - no .. cause I know you aren't supposed to ??

*insert horrified GP look here*
oh no .. you have to pull it back to clean it ..

THEN .. she pulled his back .. *insert fainting mother here - cause it was either faint .. or hurt the GP* .. he reached down and stopped her ...

but .. should she have done it??

I"m right??? right?? sigh

I needed to vent ..

xx

You're right. He's 18 months old. A healthy foreskin doesn't retract until after the age of at LEAST 3 - do a google search and its all over there.

A couple of articles have said you can TRY to retract, but if there's ANY resistance or sign of pain from the baby, stop immediately.

Poor Jack. Hope he's okay. Ring the doctor tomorrow and give her a piece of your mind, Jen!

What she said!

We researched it too after we decided not to get DS done and DH just wanted to be sure he knew all the facts.

I would definately ring tomorrow and let her know how unhappy you are. Or find a new GP, that sounds ridiculous!

As everyone else has said we only started doing blaze when he turned 4 and showed him how, basically we just tell him to play in the bath now he was doing it about the age or 3 but its not till then we started to show him how to do it properly

I am pretty sure you leave it alone.

My big boy is 4 and can pull his back on his own (probably a little too much :o). I think its an instinct? (We didn't teach or show him)
I leave bub's alone and he is 19mths.

I thought it doesnt come back until they are 3 or 4. Even then, you let them do it themselves.

I would have slapped her !

Seriously there is no way in holy hell that she wouldve dared !

I cant believe she is so naive ! I would actually get some research of your own off the net & take it into her so that she doesnt do this to anyone else !

Imagine all those who are blindly being advised they need to do it by this woman when that isnt the case !!!

Auuugh this makes me feel ill !

Jacobs still didn't retract at the age of 7, no way would it have retracted at 18mths.

It all depends when it de-adheres.

If it's not fused to the glans, and it's stretchy enough to fit over - then no harm done, and yes, cleaning is a good idea.

However, in *most* boys, it's a few years before those conditions are met.

While the foreskin is still fused to the glans, there's no more need to wash under it than there is to wash your nail beds. Once it's loose... it's just another crevice for stuff to build up under.

Eeeek! I think I would've hit her!

Lucky your little man had the sense to defend himself :)

God you wonder where some GP's get their medical degrees from sometimes

Ooh, poor little Jack, that is just so wrong!

Why on earth would she touch it in the first place, especially if it's infected? Leave well enough alone, I say.
