Hi all
I'm just wandering if there are any other people out there who are in the same situation as I am at present.
Dropped partner off at airport yesterday for next few weeks. Thats nothing new have been doing this on and off a few years now. When they landed and picked up etc they got told there is not much phone coverage (even with satellite phones). If your lucky you sometimes get a good spot on site, depending where you are and can make phone calls. UUUHHH.

He is out a far distance from Mt Isa. I think its called Lady Annie or Gunpowder, relocating mines. If anyone has been there or knows about the place, I am happy for information.

I don't know how its going to go as my family is not that close by. I have a few good friends and neighbours are good. We live on acreage so the neighbours are too far away. I can't go calling them for everything. and the kids love to chat to Dad and he always calls everynight when away.
Lets hope its not as bad as they say and we can get good coverage this time around. Not sure of the length of stay could be 2 weeks or 4 weeks or somewhere in between.
We'll be alright. I just worry about him. It's only temporary till they go to next place or he comes back to work in brisbane. He has worked most places around australia at different times but this is the first time we have been told of low (to none) phone coverage. This job is just to top up funds..
Thanks guys.
:fingerscrossed: we can at least get a few phone calls in. No doubt they will have safety days and can somehow get to town

Makes you really wonder how the families of some of the armed forces members cope. I guess where there is no phone there is no internet... skype, MSN etc? Just a thought.

good news!!!!!! The company that owns the mine has paid for a tower to be put in. It means we had to buy a new phone (replacing the cdma) to next G 3 and telstra even had an offer for free calls to 5 numbers. WOW!!! that saves our phone bill. Well its prepaid so if he doesn't have credit he can't call. :fingerscrossed: That means they can now also get internet. We also brought a laptop (but forgot to organise internet..........well ran out of time really).
Sorry to hear others can't contact partners/hubbies either. Didn't think I was alone. The phone has paid for itself already. Had a really bad month last stint with health and neighbour problems so called EVERY night. Tried to sort out neighbours problems when partner home but no use. Oh well.
All the best to everyone my heart goes out to you. keep smiling
