Hi
We will be (hopefully) moving back to Newcastle at the end of this year (living in Lambton) and are trying to get some feedback on schools in the area.
My son will be going into Year 1 next year and my daughter will be starting Kindergarten in 2009.
Does anyone know anything about:
Lambton Primary
St Johns (Lambton)
St Thereses (New Lambton).
I also have my daughters name down for Jumping Jacks Preschool (New Lambton)...........any info would also be appreciated.......
Any feedback would be great.............it's so hard trying to pick the right school...................
Thanks

DS1 11/10/01 :ecomcity:
DD 11/3/04 :yelclap:
DS2 27/7/06
My 6yr old goes to New Lambton South and its fantastic!
I has a great rep-relatively small(350? kids), principal knows every kid by name ( no idea how she does that), great gifted program, zero tolerance on bullying.
Good luck with your decisions:hugs:
Hi
We only moved to New Lambton 6 months ago and my DS is only 3 so not at school yet.
We are planning to send DS to St Thereses he will start in 2009.
I visited jumping jacks pre school a few months ago as I wanted to send my son there, I thought it was nice, staff seemed friendly, not a very big outdoor area though.Unfortunately at that time there were no vacancies for my son and I would have had to wait quite a few months to get him in there.
In the end I found another preschool which I am really happy with about 10 minute drive from home.
My neighbour sends her daughter to New Lambton primary school and is really happy with it, she is in kindergarten and the class size is 19 kids.
Hope this helps, feel free to PM me if you want.

I am confused by the whole school system here, does anyone fancy letting me know at what age children do what.....the ages and terminology used is so different from the UK. I don`t want Amelia to miss anything:no:

Hi Helen
Preschool is often a short day care (9am-3pm)
Long day care is often (7am-6pm)
Both of these you pay for per day.
Milly would start Kindergarten (the first year of primary school) after she turns 5. She turns 5 in the September and would begin Kindy the following January, (so she would be 5 and 4 months) which I think is perfect. Its is hard when they have mid year birthdays as they are either older or younger than alot of the others.
My ds2 was born in May and luckily The Junction does early starters which is basically an extra year of kindy but a bit montessori like as he was a bit young, this is a great program but only some schools have it. Milly wont need it anyway! If you are still living where you are now Floraville public school is supposed to be great....
Let me know if I have confused you or if anyone else wants to correct me?x

That sounds very easy to follow!!
Is there anywhere they go from 3-5 yrs for half a day, ie mornings or afternoons. We called that Nursery.I think we are abit sooky over there and think a whole day is far too long for them.
She does sound a good age for when schools take them into Kindy as I think Rosie is in the wrong year as she is in yr 8 and was only 13 beginning of Feb. I think it got a little muddles when we came from the Uk and I just went with what the schools were saying.
Thank you hun...a big help as I always feel silly asking !

You are never silly love!!!
I am not sure Rosie is in the wrong year, maybe academically but socially she is with the right age as there was no difference between Caleb and Rosie the other night x

yes preschool Helen!..and the longer you can leave them before starting school the better academically and socially (IMO and what i've seen as a kindy teacher)

OMG I went to New Lambton Sth many years ago. It was a GREAT school then. So glad to know it has kept its reputation.
Hi Helen
No they don't have Nursery over here, and no places around here seem to do half days.
Most preschools take kids from 3 years although I think some take children from 2 just depends. Also preschool is not free like nursery is in the UK it is about $30 a day for 9-3pm where Luke goes.

Oh heck!! Bit different then isn`t it.
When we lived in the South of Englsnd we paid a minimal amount for Fran t go to nursery but when we moved to Leeds it was all state funded so you chose a morning or afternoon slot for your child from 3 years old ...say 3x a week, building up to 5 and finally they were ready for school which is age 4 there by the start of school year in September.. It is amazing how it differs.
Thanks for your help girls as you just don`t know whats out there not growing up in a country.
xx
Helen
Meant to say as well, make sure you enroll Milly early as most fill up quickly.
Luke's preschool is now taking enrollments for January 2008.

Hi Felicity!!!
There is a place in Mayfield that does half days... either morning or afternoon, but I think they are from 3 - 5years.
