Another one bites the dust :banghead:
Yes, for months I hung the nappies out wrong... I pegged them from one end, allowing the elastic to be weighed down with the weight of the water and I know that's never wise:o :shame: .
But now nearly every fitted I own... 3 bbb's, a Cute Tooshies bamboo velour, 1 of my 2 bamboo velour VBSNs have all lost their elastic, either at the legs or at the front or back.
Thank goodness the GNST and Dream Eze are fine.. for the time being.
I saw a link lately for threading new elastic into the BBBs but I didn't understand how it would work when the elastic is zig-zagged over with a machine...
So do I unpick it all and get the old elastic out?
How do I know how much to stretch the elastic as I sew it?
Thanks in advance girls... for the advice and the vent!

I think you just pull it as tight as you can Em, after attaching it at one end
Doesn't BBH have instructions on thier site?
sew diapers have a tutorial.
But basically u find one end of the elastic cut a small hole and do the same for the other end, thread the elastic thru with a safety pin tack one end down, pull tightly (depends how tight u like ure elastic really) and zig zag over it and tack down the other end:thumbsup:

Thanks girls :D
Zada, that Sew Diapers one is what I think Davina from BB recommends... but I was thinking that the instructions were more for nappies without the elastic sewn down... Do I unpick all of the zig-zag stitching to get the old elastic out of the BBBs?
Thanks Em, sounds easier then I thought- just pull the elastic tight, and sew!
Maybe I should go check out OzCloth's instructions..

I recently fixed all 14 of my BBH. I left the old elastic in the nappy and used swimwear elastic. They are now like new!!

Oh ok!
So did you just thread it through next to the old stuff? I don't have a BBB around me just right now to examine it, is there room next to the old elastic, inside the nappy, for more?
yep with BBB the elastic is sewn to the 2 outer layers not the inner layer KWIM? when u cut a small hole the whole space is hollow so just zig zag over it thru all the layers, use ure finger as a guide then patch the holes up:thumbsup:

Sounds great! But the fabric is so thick and tough, will 6mm swimwear elastic be strong enough? Or do I need the next size up?
I'm just about to head out the door to go to Spotlight :D Mum's visiting tomorrow and I think I'll put her to work for me
Oh and polyester thread, right?

:D My sewing capabilities don't extend further then taking up pants and taking in tops. Although I have a little quilt I made for my teddy when I was little, it's actually very lovely and mum assures me that I did it all myself... I just don't know how!! She did teach me to use her machine very young. I just didn't expand my skills
ETA- I did make some curtains for Ronan's bedroom, with backing, valance etc. With a lot of help from my mil!!!

Whoo hoo! :smiliedance:
Yep, Em, I took the easy way out- I threaded the elastic through, pinned it, and have sent it home with my mum for her to sew.
Well, she offered!:D
Anyhoo, she has people to show them to ;)
Thanks Phin, 10mm elastic is perfect, I would have regretted getting 6mm for sure- all those layers of stiff old bamboo to bunch up really requires stronger elastic then that

:yelclap: :smiliedance: YAY Em, now lets hope she doesn't put it in the to do pile, otherwise you may have to buy some more nappies to tide you over ;)
