Hi girls,
Just a quick question. I've got my 9 y/o Goddaughter here for the weekend and we have just received a dvd copy of Narnia (don't ask how! )
Anyway, Jesse who is 4 wants to watch it with her tonight and because I haven't seen it was wondering if it may be too scary for him.
If anyone could help me...they're in the pool at the moment but they will want to watch it when they come inside...if it is too scary for Jesse I could always say it doesn't work! Your thoughts please....

theres one bit in it i even found disturbing. they do some nasty things to the lion. if i was you i wouldnt let him watch it. but thats just my opinion
All of my kids have watched it (over and over and over again), the nearly 3 year old, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12 year olds.
The only one who was really disturbed by it was the 10 year old. My nearly three year old daughter laughs at a lot of it. There's no blood as such, but there are lots of fight and scary scenes. I don't think it was any worse than star wars, harry potter, scooby doo...
Your choice, I'm starting up "The Bad Mother's Club" so if it all goes awry you can come and join me.

I really don't like that bit, I guess I'm just a big baby. lol.
Which bit, the big fight scene at the end? My 5 year old takes the seriousness out of it, when he has his sword and runs in slow motion pretending to be them.

The bit when the witch has aslan on the stone table
Yeh. Is a bit yuk. Maybe my kids are so used to this sort of stuff. They say "don't worry, he'll get up"...

I guess Its down to the fact I don't like animal cruelty. Even tho this animal talks and its only a movie. lol
That's funny you say that. The 10 year old now asks if all animals can talk! And if they can, what would they say to us...
Hey Carly, dh took our older 2 to see it, so i havnt seen it yet, but i was out with eleanor today, and she said she has seen it, but wouldnt take her son to see it, and he is 4, she felt it would be to scary for him and a bit over his head. hope that helps a bit :)

Well i havent seen the movie yet was supposed to but yeah thats a different story !
But i have read the books as well as seen the original t.v series & yes its a bit gruesome what happens to Aslan but thats the idea its actually meant to relate back to how J.C died for us but in a way kids can understand etc. So ummm yeah i guess if your there & can explain to the kids etc then i would say all is fine IMO. Otherwise you will see from the way it all develops when its going to happen as they strap him down on the table etc so you can at least have him close to you then & maybe even have him turn away we did this with the first Harry Potter movie as my nephew wanted to see it so me knowing what would be coming up would say "turn" LOL.

Thanks for your replies...
Well I decided that I'd sit in on Narnia with them. I tried the 'it's broken' excuse but Jesse was onto me! Before I knew what was going on he had popped it in the dvd and was dancing around, "it works, it works!" - it took me about 6 months to figure out how to work that thing! Anyway we started watching it and I noticed during any part he was a little concerned about he would come and sit on my knee and start reassuring himself, "it's not real, it's just a movie isn't it mummy."
About half way through he decided he'd had enough and went into the family room to watch Nick Jr and I went and sat with him while my Goddaughter Abbey sat and watched Narnia. At the end I asked her if she liked it and she said it was good but parts of it were really sad.
I'm glad Jesse had the common sense to decide for himself that he couldn't watch it...my little boy's growing up...I just hope that the common sense follows him to teenage years:p !

Oh thats so cute !
Yep sounds like he is growing up & understanding when things are a little too much for him tis amazing how they do cope/understand etc.
My nephew when he was 3yrs old & watching The Lion King freaked a little when Mufasa died so from then on anytime we reached that point in the movie he would be jumping up & down "fa fowad fa fowad" to get past it all.
Amazes me how their minds work !

Amazes me how their minds work !
It is amazing!!!! Then they get to 15, 16, 17 and peer pressure gets them and they end up in all sorts of trouble, why don't they just go and sit on mummy's knee then?...I want them to stay 4 forever!!!!:(

Oh lordy please dont remind me of this i love my cuddles way too much !!!!!!
Im watching my cousins atm going through a battle with their 13yr old daughter oh the fun ! She is so gorgeous this girl seriously model material so no wonder they are worried !!!! She has boys throwing themselves at her & of course they are like 18 or 19yrs old   Dont they know better ?!?!?!?!? As well as her being a follower in that whatever the mob or her friends are doing she will do also
Im soooo worried especially as my cousin & his wife are really good with discipline as well as encouragement & have always had good relationships with their kids !
So i keep thinking i have no hope !!!!! Sometimes i think it comes down to luck !

I didn't quite get the Jesus thing out of it, more about family bonds and sibling rivalry.

I loved loved loved it...we took our 5 year old and 18 month old and they were fine. For us, because CS Lewis based the story on the Bible/salvation/Jesus...we were really keen for them to see it:) We chatted about it afterwards alot.
I must get out more, I still really didn't get that whole JC thing...

Maghan - Honestly if you havent read the books then its probably no wonder you didnt. Its really hard to describe but as there are a few books prior to this one then more gets relayed about it etc. As Ffrenchie said C.S Lewis did base them around the bible & J.C but of course there was family bonds & sibling rivalry isnt there with any family ? He did it so it was easier for kids to understand IYKWIM so of course he brought in other things from life etc but they were either then shown their actions could cause trouble & the likes or shown the love that can also happen when they do the right thing or believe so to speak.
Sorry of im not making sense i have trouble these days LOL !

My dh took our 9 and 8 yr old to see it for similiar reasons, he is in the middle of reading the books to them and they had lots to talk about when they got home :)

I have the Narnia series (books) and as a child I read them over and over at about age 7 or 8, I was a big reader.
I also saw the old movie, which was a really B grade version so am really looking forward to seeing this new version. I hope it lives up to my expectations.
I think it is fully appropriate for children, it was my all time favourite story even as a young child!

Same here JulieXavier its an old fav of mine ! I actually got excited when i was at the shops when i was 5mths pg & saw they had re-released them all in the one big paperback !!!! I was literally jumping around LOL ( im easily pleased :D :p ) So i got it that day & it probably took me all of a few weeks to read them all. Being sick all day & nite meant i had plenty of time reading the in the bathroom or in bed LOL !
I really just hope Aslan is as gorgeous as the BBC series the robo-animation was great i reckon even if we have gone further nowadays with it all !!!!
Im actually wanting to get my hands on that original as they even did "The Dawn Treader" & possibly others from memory.

Just a little bit of useless trivia...
before I got married my name was actually
C.S.Lewis!!!!

Did they? I only ever saw the Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe ( BBC version). Yes, Aslan was gorgeous in that, but some of the other animal characters where played by people in costumes and that was a bit blahh for my liking, but it was good for it's time I guess!
My fav book is the magicians nephew (no.1), I think that will be awesome as a movie, with the rings and jumping into ponds into different worlds, so magical.
I hope they do them all! Why did they start with The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe? Is it because it is the most popular? Like Star Wars, they made all the movies in the wrong order. Or is this new movie an amalgamation of the entire series, surely not? Please tell me it's not!

Na no way you can cram 7 books into one movie, when I think about it.

Hahahahahah !!!
JulieXavier - Oh yes i have to agree "The Magicians Nephew" would be great to see !
I think because TLTWATW was always a good story on its own (as are all of them really C.S.Lewis did a god job there !) that it has always been a popular story but no i dont believe they have amalgamated them its not really possible & if they have i dread to see it ! Doubt they will make them all but then again who really knows ! I mean they did LOTR's as well as Harry Potter so in some ways i cant see why not hehe ! Maybe we need to start a petition ! :p ;) :D

They might decide whether to make the others after seeing if this one has any success. I think they would be very popular. Just have to wait and see, a petition may not be necessary. Fingers crossed it does well at the box office.;)
I think I'll have to wait for it to come out on DVD now as I can never get to the movies (lack of a babysitter) and ticket prices are  these days!!!!!
