Hi,

My wife is having morning sickness (1st baby), and she doesn't seem to have any appetite. Throws up anything she ate.

Read thru the forum, and bought ginger tea for her. She said it helps in the beginning, but after many cups, she's starting to get sick of it.

Tried toast bread + vegetmite, but she hates it! :(

Any more idea?....pls post, thanks! :)

If she has HG which is what I had there will be nothing for it. I was that sick and I couldn't eat or even drink water. I was sick all day and night. See how she goes and if it doesn't ease take her into the gp.

I had really bad MS with this one and ended up going to the doctors and getting Maxalon. It's safe to have and wont harm the baby at all. I found hot chips and gravy was a hit for me in the early stages. Hopefully it should pass by 12-14 weeks.

Hi,

I was sick as a dog and found it hard with the no appetite thing because when you don't eat it just makes you feel more sick. I was basically bedridden from week 6 to week 13 and the thing that ended up making it a bit better was that my DH would make me 2 meals (just weetbix or toast or whatever I thought I could handle) and I would eat the first one, throw it up and then in the 20 minutes grace I got after the chuck I would quickly eat the other meal hoping to get some nutrients in! This would make my tummy feel better for about 20 mins cause there was something in it.

Like PP I'm also allergic to Maxolon so took a couple of Zofran but found a travel sickness tablet called Avil took the edge off and I felt more comfortable taking that than Zofran... took the Avil up until about week 34 when the MS eased up a bit.

I also used sea bands, fruit tingles, ginger lollies, ginger beer cordial, acupuncture, so you could try some of them? Otherwise something I didn't do was see an Obs earlier on, when I did see her after the worst was over she said I should have been admitted to hospital to have a drip and that this helps a lot. So if it's really bad keep that in mind!

Good luck to you both, I hope the MS eases up soon! Take it as a good sign that the pregnancy is going well though, as they say it's linked to the HCG levels going up and up!!

I was sick 24/7 and nothing really helped at all. I would suggest getting her to the doc and onto a drip especially if she is throwing up everything she eats and drinks.

I was throwing up water and ended up in hospital on a drip. Good news is that it stopped at 13 weeks.

:fingerscrossed: that your wife's stops at 13 weeks too.

Firstly-don't push her to eat. Most smells probably make her feel sick so whatever she can manage is ok.

Drinking planty of water to keep her fluids up and the seabands helped me with feeling nauseous but not with vomiting.

To be honest I think there is too much pressure to start be eating all the right things from the start but when you're not very far along the baby is tiny (literally millimetres) and can get all the nutrients from her stores.

I ave had severe morning sickness and my DH tried basically everything. I found it worse when I was tired and dehydrated.

If she can't keep down water then definately go back to your GP as that is serious but until then if she can only keep down something not so healthy it's ok too.

From the past few days, it seemed that she can eat almost everything. Roast duck, deep-fried pork ribs, Sichuan spicy and hotpot! But......

She is not able to prepare the food. Seems like the smell of the food when it's raw or uncooked triggers the vomiting.

I didn't buy the seabands, but I know how to find the point on the wrist. Just by pressing the point, she starts vomitting.

When I told her that some forumers have to endure til week 13, she groans. She's expecting it will stop end of June..... ;)

I could not prepare food at all for alot of my pregnancy....I hope you enjoy cooking ;)

My DH prepared 90% of things while I was pregnant.

oh my god!! I think god made MS, so that dads could be trained to take more responsibilities til the baby is born

yep that's about the size of it! lol and to prepare them to help out more for when bub is born.

On a serious note if you have or can buy a slow cooker you could prepare everything in the morning, chuck it on, leave it on low all day and when you get home it's cooked and delicious! (plus there is generally left overs!)

I also suffered HG with both my pregnancies. I was hospitalised so many times and ended up going into shock and liver and kidney failure through starvation. If her sickness is extreme and she can't tolerate fluids then get her onto Zofran as soon as you can. It is quite expensive but if you can get the hospital to write you a script it is so much cheaper. Make sure she is taking her mulitvitamins - Elevit was great for me but check them out. In my first pregnancy I found drinking Sustain and Sustagen was helpful as well as sucking the juice out of manderins and oranges. Not alot can be done really in extreme cases but she definately needs to keep her fluids up to avoid "keytones" building up in her system. Let me know if you need any advice on getting through it!! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Hi antlmumy,

Good idea on the slow cooker thingy, btw, do you have any slow cooker pregnancy receipes off hand?

Hi mytwoprincessess,

I bought 3x Elevit (100 pills each) $49.95 each at Chemist Warehouse. Should be enough to last til her breastfeeding.

btw, what's HG?

oh yes, one more question:
- are there classes (coaching) for parents-to-be on how to take care of oneself and the baby? (eg, how to shower baby, bathing, baby symtons?)

Hi s050399b Good news that you bought the Elevit. Good price as well. HG is Hyperemsis Graverdium - it is extreme morning (ALL DAY!) sickness. It occurs in 1% of pregnancies (I was lucky enough to have it both times!). Mine was so severe that another pregnancy would literally kill me as my last one nearly did. I have to have a full tubal ligation to avoid any further pregnancies as they would have to be medically terminated. A great gift for your wife could be a subscription to Pregnancy and Birth or Practical Parenting magazines. These are also filled with great information on caring for a newborn. I found my hubby a great support - although he couldn't help with the vomitting as such - he took it upon himself to do most if not all of the housework and cooking so it was one less thing I had to do. Hope that the sickness eases :fingerscrossed:

Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum, and am nearly 8 weeks pregnant. I've been feeling really sick and have had morning sickness at any time of the day or night, but mostly i don't throw up, just feel like shyte.
I am in Vietnam at the moment so surfed the web to see if Maxolon was okay to take.. I found this helpful info on the TGA (therapeutic goods administration of australia) which covers the pregnancy risk associated with a whole host of different prescription medications etc.
The good news is, maxolon is deemed very safe pregnancy, so i'm now taking two tablets per day and it's helping a lot. There are others listed on the TGA site in the same 'safe' category that you could maybe try if allergic to maxolon.
Check out the TGA at
www.tga.gov.au/docs/html/medpreg.htm (http://www.tga.gov.au/docs/html/medpreg.htm)
Here's what it says about maxolon:
Category A

Drugs which have been taken by a large number of pregnant women and women of childbearing age without any proven increase in the frequency of malformations or other direct or indirect harmful effects on the fetus having been observed.

Good luck everyone!
regards Mel

She's complaining of backaches; even when sleeping.

She usually sleeps on her back, and found it uncomfortable when she does it now.

Do you experience the same symptons?

Hi,
This is my third pg but the first where I was unable to eat without throwing up. I read on an American website to take a couple of mouthfuls of applesauce every hour or so. The IXL one is only about $2 a jar and well worth every cent. It seemed to work for me at calming my stomach.

The website also suggested plain toast which was helpful too.

One question:
One of my friends told me that I should get my partner to do exercise like swimming and etc in order to stay health.

What do you think? Mine says she feels too tired, and gets tired easily......and sleep like 70% of the day, about 10 weeks preg

Your wife will exercise if and when she is ready. Yes, it is good for her but overdoing it if she is tired is not going to help anyone.

If you pressure her or make her feel guilty about exercise, it is only going to put strain on your relationship. Afterall, she is the only one who knows how she feels.

Maybe you need to put the text books away for a while so you can relax and enjoy.

For back aches I reccomend sending her to have pregnancy massages once she passes 12 weeks as they can really help!!
Be careful though if the pain is around her kidney area as that could indicate something else and needs a Dr visit.

On her feeling tired that is very normal! I constantly fell asleep on my DH at 7pm at night during my first pregnancy.

Usually but not always the energy levels pick up during the second trimester once m/s is over.

I agree don't pressure her to do exercise, yes swimming is a better form of exercise during pregnancy but at this stage it's not important.

make sure she gets plenty of rest as being tired or ANY stress can bring on sickness!
