 How are you?
Since there's an awesome coop for Lunettes happening, and I know some others have bought Divas, Lunettes, Mooncup (UK), etc.
I thought we could do a thread to discuss using them (a fresh new one).
Because I have an announcement....
AF has arrived! So it's cups away! :yelclap:

PB... mine arrived a few days ago too... I was very excited... first time in my life I believe  !
How are you going?
Well...its cups away here too...
Getting in it and "attached" was a bit fiddly - but not enough to put me off....
Will see how successful I am about getting it in the right spot etc in a little while I guess...
How did you go with it Pobblebonk?
I finished my first cycle with the cup a couple of days ago...
The verdict?
FANTASTIC!
It's a bit fiddly to get used to at first, so a slight learning curve, but it works so well - not a single leak during the day, or overnight! I love that you can leave it in for so long, very convenient! It was fantastic not having to empty the bin in the toilet too :D (even though that diminished with the cloth pads, I was still using tampons as I am a tampon girl :))
Yay for the cup!
Woohoo! Hope that I can return a positive verdict like that too in a few days...

Here is a tip - I empty and rinse mine in the shower - that way you can have clean hands, extract, wash and reinsert the cup without dripping a drop of blood anywhere. And if you have a private unlimited water supply like we do, you can have a shower in the am and pm and never have to do a dry change over a toilet :D Makes me forget I even have my period at times!
I remember that tip from the other discussion threads, Duchessa...
I think I'll be joing the stemless club though - the cup itself I can't feel, but the stem is annoying the begeesus out of me at the moment... Think it will be stemless before the end of the day.

Cut it off - you don't need it at all, and I agree, it can really wear you down (and I do mean literally :D).
Yep, the stem and I weren't friends either, lol.... I chopped it off after it was irritating my scar tissue. I don't use it to remove the cup anyway, I squeeze the cup to break the suction, then pull it out.
I'l be lopping it off ASAP tonight - I have had to take the cup out because it was really getting to me. :(
I was telling DH about my new "toy" - he had actually heard of them! He is a bit grossed out by the whole catch-it-in-a-cup thing, but then he has never once had to deal with the messiness of tampons/pads, so really has no idea. He is happy that I have reduced my chances of TSS though...
Well, I am sad to say that I have given up on the cup this cycle. I just can't seem to get it right and it has been hurting. :( I feel very raw, too, so have decided to put it away this month.
I'm not put off though - will try again next cycle.

Hi all :)
I got my Diva cup a while ago, though I didn't get to use it as it arrive just after I got my first cycle back after #1 was born and I didn't have a second cycle (#2 resulting :) )
So, I just had my first cycle after #2 and got to use the cup. It was a little tricky, I needed to get use to it, but I love it :smiliedance: . I can't see myself ever returning to disposables....
I was so glad to see this thread :yelclap:

:yelclap: No, no, it DID come today! So I have put it to use already. My first go was a bit strange and (TMI coming) I mustn't have had it in far enough as it kind of popped out! :p But, a bit of a readjustment and all seems well. I can't feel it, so I guess I have done it right. :D
Oh, and I meant to say, it's the Lunette cup that I have bought. Thanks Duchessa!

Yay for Austpost!!
You obviously did have your tongue in the right position when you first put it in:D
Did you go alright with it? Did you manage to get it out without spilling? I remember my first experience and I learned very quickly what angle I should be taking it out on;)

I can't believe how easy this thing is! I feel like a 13yo who has just got her period for the first time, I am so excited by it all!
I slept with it last night, went running with it this morning, have 'worn' it all day, did the shower wash out this morning and even managed an 'empty' in a public toilet with absolutely no spills or mess!
To be honest, it is so much cleaner than tampons in terms of blood exposure and leaks etc...
I am definitely going to talk this one up when I am out and about. I gave my three friends theirs this morning (we bought 4 in total) and they are also excited about it. :yelclap:

No, not this lot. I had already ordered four with some non-BH friends prior to the co-op and then had another interested party, which is how I became connected to the co-op. But, I did order the first four only a day or two before the co-op so I am sure yours won't be far away! :smiliedance:

Sorry about the late reply!
I actually went through 1 day of absolutely excuciating abdominal pain using it, and I reinserted and twisted around etc and the only thing that got rid of the pain was removing it.
So now I'm feeling a bit scared about trying it next month...
Has anyone else had pain like that? It was awful!

Have you tried emailing them yet PB? They might be able to explain why this is happening to you. You're the only one I've seen have this problem, not to say you are the only out there in this situation though!

You need to make sure your in the right position - try sitting on the edge of the toilet, one leg up on the toilet/bath/sink, squatting, etc until you find the easiest position to use. It is also a must that you relax. It's not going to go in easy if you're not relaxed!!
Google: Menstrual Cup Support. This will be a live journal forum where ppl ask alot of Q's etc. There are different ways to fold the cup that some ppl find easier to insert. HTH:)

Sarahbelle, I had a bit of the popping open before it was properly in too but I found it didn't actually matter that much. I (TMI coming) kind of adjusted it once it was in there to get it sitting right. It is really, really awkward but then so were tampons when I was first trying them out all those years ago. Maybe try playing around with it in the shower-I found this was a great way to do it and I was washing my hands as I went. Keep trying. :fingerscrossed:

maybe my divacup is just different, but as i said all wonderful here

Google: labyrinth obsidian cloth pads
This is one of the most comprehensive sites around regarding cloth pads and menstrual cups.
Another one I have recently become aware of is: Menstrual Cup Support (google those words).
Have a bit of a look through those (particularly Obsidian's) then if you have any Q's let us know :)

I canīt wait to get my Lunette - I go back to work part time in a couple of weeks and as I am out on the road all day, not having to mess about with tampons will be such a relief.
Iīm really excited :smiliedance: . If things go well, I also will be spreading the word, though I am sure some people will think it a bit weird, but I just donīt get why anyone would want to use disposables when something like this is on offer.
I will take on the advice about trying it in the shower too.

Er, YES I did all the things the instructions said for inserting... I twisted it around, and yes, released suction for removing it.
Oh er, was I supposed to insert it so that the stem was facing up inside me?
Like duh, I'm not stupid. But it hurt like buggery. And I don't normally get period pain.
 well if it works for you the other way up- go for it.....
well, donīt know then...
maybe our "old cup gurus" might have some "secret" hints for you!!!
good luck

Pobbles - I really feel for you. I'm really sad you haven't had the great experience I (and most women I assume) have had with the cup.
Are you going to try it again next period? Did you try it when you first got it (ie dry run)? If you did, did you have any pains then or was it just during your period?
:hugs:

Thanks Grems. I feel for me too! Truly, it was the most excrutiating pain I've felt in my abdomen in a long time. Right up there with late stage contractions. I even had to take 3 nurofen to get through it. I was particularly miffed because I didn't have any cloth pads with me and I was forced to buy disposable pads.
I did give it a dry run when I first got it and it seemed fine. In fact, I couldn't wait for AF to arrive.
I'm not going to give up. I'll give it another go. But the pain from it that time does have me all cross-legged about it.
Admittedly, I have rarely used tampons since AF came back after I stopped bfing Mr Chicken...
If it is painful to use again, I'll trot myself off to the gyn for advice.

It'll take you to Obsidian's site and she has a bit there on TSS, although she hasn't been able to find much info relating cups and TSS. I think she may have a link to a couple of places.

I used mine for the first 'real' time yesterday. the stem annoyed me... I'll be chopping that off... and the cup itself caused me abdominal pain :(
Aswell, as that, I found it soooo difficult to remove!!! I did remember to squeeze the bottom this time, so as not to suck my insides out... but its the actually trying to grasp the thing that I have trouble with. There just aint that much room in there to open my fingers, if you get my drift?! I ended up with blood everywhere... and many moments of 'oh no, I'm going to have to have this surgically removed, aren't I!'
I went off and bought tampons this morning...
:crying:

It does take a bit of getting used to when removing it. I usually just grip the bottom with my thumb and forefinger and pull. The angle you pull it matters aswell- the first time I did it I didn't think about angle at all and ended up with blood all over my hands. Now I only get a bit on my fingers, if any at all.
Pobblebonk had abdominal pain aswell. I really have no idea why you girls have had that problem. Perhaps email the maker (ie Diva, Lunette) and ask why that could be happening.
Otherwise, all I can suggest is to just keep practising. I would choose my cloth pads over the cup for a few mths after getting the cup, but I've slowly started using the cup more and more.

Tell me about it. DH is afraid Iīll get preg again if we go there  . I just keep telling him that the only women who say you forget the pain have kids over the age of 20... :D
My little one is 7mths - has anyone else had pain during sex after this long post partum? It makes me wonder if I will have pain or discomfort with the cup.
My bub is 9 months... and I still have a bit of pain during sex (due to tearing), however, the cup is no problem (although I needed to cut off the stem, as it poked the scar).

Well, it looks like Iīll get to test the cup next week!! They arrived on Wed, in time for both me and my sister (9 1/2 yrs between us, but not much at all, really).
I am back at work 3 days a week from next week, starting Mon which is when AF is due, so I think I might wait until Iīm at home on Wed to give it a go, though I might give it a īdry runī over the weekend.
I am so excited!
My sis has 3 DDs, the oldest has already started AF, so I am not sure what my her intentions are regards introducing her DDs to the idea of a cup. I guess if it works for my sis, she will suggest the idea to the oldest, but I would hope she would just introduce it to the others when they are ready. Her oldest is 14, going on 35 and is part of the cool crowd, so she might see a cup as a real hippy fringe thing, rather than a real option. I guess weīll see....
well using mine for the first time today, damn stem got chopped off bit by bit, I have a tiny bit left on it, but something is still poking me. The cup sits so low that I can easily reach the bottom of it, and at times feels like its way too low, but I cant push it up any higher, is that just my dodgy pelvic floor??

Well today is the first day I have been able to try my cup. I was sick as a dog on the weekend with a horrible tummy bug, so I couldn't even bring myself to sterilise it. Today I'm feeling a bit fragile still, but managed to boil it up and get things going.
I had no problems at all inserting it - although it seems to list rather badly to one side. I'm guessing that is just my dodgy post partum pelvic floor:D . I've lopped off half of the stem and now I can't even feel it at all.
I kind of thought the whole 'no tummy pain' thing was a bit of an exaggeration, but it isn't. I was feeling quite miserable and sorry for myself yesterday, between :barf: and the runs and then getting AF, so with that all the usual cramps and discomfort. This morning first thing I used a tampon and was feeling the usual horrible crampy thing, but since inserting the cup - I feel nothing at all.
I have to admit that I'm wearing a liner and have checked my knickers about 10 times since putting it in to see if there are any leaks, but so far not a sign.
I guess the true test will come when I have to remove it and reinsert it, but given how well it has worked so far, I am hoping that even if it is a bit fiddly to start with, I won't have too many problems.
Gotta say that if it is as easy as this every time, I will be extolling the cup's virtues to anyone who will listen!!!

Woohoo - I'm totally converted and will attempt to brainwash anyone who will willingly listen. :smiliedance:
I've emptied and re-inserted three times today, mainly for practice, but once to lop off half the stem and then another to lop another bit off, so there is just a little tab left. I think it was poking into me because it won't sit straight. I know I just need to do some more kegels :D .
I ventured out to do the grocery shopping, played with DD on the floor and the only time I was worried at all, was bringing in armloads of grocery bags - all the weight bearing down made it slip a bit, thus the kegels...
I have had no trouble at all inserting it and although my first attempt at removing it was a bit of a surprise when it popped open halfway out (ouch!), I found it about as messy as using a tampon, but I can see that with practice, it will be less messy.
Given I was at home today, I thought I would also give it a go inserting it in the loo, as I would have to do that if I needed to empty or reposition it when I'm out on the road for work and it was easy peasy.
Interestingly, since having DD, I have found tampons really hard to insert and get into the right position, but this was a breeze. Maybe because tampons are so drying? I think I'll give it a go overnight tonight, but I'll wear a pad as backup. :smiliedance: :smiliedance:

Well, overnight was a screaming success. No more restless sleep worrying that my pad is slipping, or that it needs changing, or that if I lie on my back it will leak. Apart from being up all night with DD vomiting, it was refreshing not to have to worry about myself at all and it was nice to not have to remember to pack a tampon in my bag when we had to take DD to hospital last night.
It was in for about 10hrs straight and I found it a little difficult to get hold of it this morning, because it had ridden up a bit overnight, but the other thing is that I am going to have to wear a liner with it most of the time, until my pelvic floor gets back to normal. DD is only 7mth, so I think I'm doing ok so far.
Most women I've spoken to after a vaginal birth say they are more dry generally, but I seem to have the opposite problem (sorry if TMI), great for sex, but I've had to wear a liner every day since!!

I had a very heavy flow for the first few days of mine and would need to change it 5-8times a day and no way could I sleep with it.I had to use pads as well and the overflow situation was damn uncomfortable....I just went back to using disposables after 8months or so, dissapointed esp. cos it cost me so much money!

The Keeper is the only latex cup, they now have a silicone cup called The Mooncup US which many people are peeved about considering there was/is already a cup called The Mooncup UK. Very rude:shame: All the other cups are made from silicone.
The Lunette holds slightly more than the other cups, but only marginally. As for poking, did you cut the stem off or leave it intact? Some women find they need to cut the stem completely off.
Have you looked at cloth pads? You could use cloth for the first couple of days then the cup for the rest of your period.

I left a bit of the stem but maybe I should have cut it all off... apart from allergies and deterioration is there a substantial benefit to silicone?
Guess I should go google!
At least I know that I don't get abdominal pains from cups like others do! Poor things
