Has anyone started feeling uterine contractions / Braxton Hicks yet?

I heard around 20 weeks they can often start as your uterus starts 'practising' and toning up? Is this right?

I was wondering what they felt like as a couple of times in the last 2 days I have felt slight pains. If you cupped your hands bellow your bump with both palms on the bottom left and right hand sides (with your little fingers sitting near your pelvis bones IYKWIM) then thats the areas where the pains were... Im wondering if this is what it could have been...?

BH aren't supposed to be painful and basically for me anyway it was just my tummy tightening going rock hard for a bit then going back to "normal"

It could just be your ligaments stretching and preparing to grow your bub?

Maybe talk unless they get really painful between now and then I'd suggest talking to whoever you're seeing for your next antenatal just so you know.

I didn't get them with Brion, and I haven't had any yet.

But they are supposed to feel similar to contractions, so like a period ache/tightening just like Antl said.

I get sharp pains on either side sometimes, but I think it is me muscles shifting and stretching.

sorry to butt in, ive been getting them sometimes since about 17 weeks, and they are painful for me, all the books say painless, but bah to them lol. My whole uterus goes tight for a little while, some nights i have heaps in a row, other nights i dont have any for ages.

I've had them for a few weeks now (well what I am assuming to be Braxton Hicks!). I get them all throughout the day/night at no particular time. To me they don't hurt but it feels exactly like a tightening sensation in the middle of your lower tummy, they are more uncomfortable than painful.

I had more regular and intense ones on Sat and Sun - very strange!

Anyhow, that's just my little bit!

Ive been getting them for a couple weeks now. I dont find them painful but they are uncomfortable. It feels like your belly tightening up and going rock solid for about 30 seconds. It is strange. I would explain it like it feels like ya baby is stretching his whole body out and then curling back up again. You will know when you feel it.

yip i've been getting them for a while, happens more when i'm really active

they actually start as early on as 12wks but we don't feel them, and everyone gets them

they are supose to be painless but if you have a irratable uterus then they can be painfull, to the extent that they can be confused with contractions as in labour,

lots of BH is a good thing, as long as they arn't too painfull,

A man probably did... just like almost everything else pregnancy related like the options to "ease" morning sickness (yeah right)

A man gets "deathly sick" from a simple cold, if a man was pregnant and has morning sickness and all the other aches and pains we'd never hear the end of it instead we have to put up with it all (and winge to each other of course) cos it's not happening to them so it can't possiblybe true:rolleyes:

Do you girls that are getting BH find that sometimes you get them when you have a full bladder? I find that I get them when I need to pee! Its so weird and it feels awful!

Well what I originally posted about was not BH because Im pretty positive I felt BH last night for real. In the middle of my lower bump I felt a real tightening almost like a cramp that held tight IYKWIM. It didnt hurt but was a little wiered to experiance. I did feel my tummy where it was and it felt tighter. Didnt last for too long, under a minute.

Yeah that sounds more like a BH Nicole.

Pebbles - I find I notice my BH more when I have a full bladder maybe that's just when you notice them more too?

Intersting....I don't think mine are really BH then, I get more pains when I'm stressed at work or working long hours sitting all day. :( Guess it's bub reacting to the stress or something!

Nope - haven't felt them either... lately the little one has been having the hiccups.

My stomach expands a bit - sort of like the baby kicking down deep inside - then it repeats for about 5 minutes over and over.

I'm guessing hiccups - I don't think that's BH is it?

Ok - spoke to soon... got out of bed this morning and couldn't straighten up. Lower right of my tummy felt like I had a really tight cramp - all hard as a rock - then about 10 seconds later, it went. Guess that was Braxon Hicks????

that would've been your muscles spasaming dellibelli, a BH wouldn't make you not stand up straight, would've just been other muscles

i've been experiancing a few BH lately, mostly when i'm on the move alot, or when my bladder is full (must just notice it more when i'm wanting to pee lol)
