Hi, I spent a bit of money this week buying ds new toys. He has never requested it (well, he's only 9.5 months), but I just could not say no to those nice and fun toys in the shop.:D I do this pretty much every week...:banghead:

Well, I would like to know how often other parents buy their kids new toys? I might be able to use teh poll result here to justify myself to dh?:o

I buy DD new toys when she has outgrown the ones she currently has or when she need things that challenge her at a different level... She has far too much as it is and I dont want too much stuff that I just have to find a place for...

I buy my almost 2.5 yr old a new toy most weeks....now when I say toy - it's usually a new thomas character or maybe a book. I know its the wrong thing, but I have mother guilt from putting him in daycare :o and he is such a good good little boy.

I also buy him stickers/the temporary tattoos as well quite often as he loves these an are only about $1 or $2.

I know I shouldn't buy him as much as I do, but he is our only child at the moment - I don't mind if he is spoilt a little bit.

Couple of times a week. She doesnt even ask for them...but I never had anything growing up....I remember what it was like. I sometimes buy the toys just for me.....because it makes me happy....

I guess I have a problem......:o

I use to buy somthing nearly everytime we went to the shops......which was like every second day..

And if there was a sale on, I'd be there...but that was when he was younger....

He now has so many toys I can rotate them, and he is always excited to play with them..they never get boring....

Now I will buy him like a Matchbox toy car, or something like that occassionally, maybe once a fortnight. But if he has misbehaved, he doesnt get it straight away

About every 6 months.

My kids birthdays are reasonably close to Xmas so they tend to go almost a full year without any new toys - so I usually buy them something half way through the year because otherwise they outgrow all the stuff they got for Xmas/birthdays the year before - a year is a looong time to play with the same things at their age.

I don't usually buy them toys for the heck of it, maybe if DD is sick I might get her something little to make her feel better. I also dont' think it's a great idea to buy them stuff all the time, I don't want them to just "expect" it as they get older.

We are members of a great toy library, with fantastic flash big toys. It does the job for me :D

But other then that, I'd say that about once every 2 months (about 6 times a year perhaps?) we get the kids a DVD or a small 'something' and only spend about $20.... it's fun and it's not overkill

DD gets a few books a week - she LOVES books, and I get sick of reading the exact same ones over and over so I buy new ones regularly.

I usually get her a small toy too...nothing huge... big toys are for birthdays and Christmas (and it's good because her birthday is mid-year, so it's balanced out pretty well).

Same. If they do something that deserves reward I will buy them something.

I have seen friends' big kids bug them everytime they go out to get something new.. I don't want my kids to do this to me!! I couldn't afford it!

I buy things weekly.....Usually books in fact nearly always books :o and also Farm animals she loves them and they are cheap and we can learn with them. She has an enormous amount of toys it's :o Her Daddy spoils her rotten, but she doesn't have them all at once we rotate them and she only gets what's put out for her.

Hardly ever. He has heaps already, I don't know where most of them came from.

He has a walker, a jolly jumper and a jitterbug, they are his favourite things, but mostly he just likes to play with mummys hair or nose or poke her in the eye. He's not really into toys yet.

Clothes are our weakness. He has way too many. I also believe you can never have too many books.

Birthdays and Christmas. Too costly..........plus they don't play with them after a couple of days anyway.

I buy DS new toys when he outgrows his old ones or when there is a really cool toy that I see in the shop but he has a million toys that he gets from his Nanna and Grandad... They are a walking toy store I'm sure of it...

Same !

We too buy a few things every few weeks but they are mainly books or crayons with colouring books cause he is drawing mad atm. Even then we are often scouring through Ebay getting a bargain !

We just got 30 Golden Books for $5 & he looooves them !

Oh & we even scored a two brand new trucks one being a metal Tonka truck for free off a neighbour as their kids no longer wanted them & they hadnt even been used so he scored big time !

Same here! It's pretty rare that we just buy a toy for the sake of it. she either grows out of it, or it's for her birthday and xmas. She's fascinated with little bikes at the moment, but we're not getting her one until her birthday....in November. We have enough toys to satisfy her when she is home and playing, but they definitely don't take over our house and by not having that many toys I make sure we're out and about more often so she doesn't get bored at home.

My cousin's little boy still has presents wrapped that were Christmas presents. He has so many. I have a friend who rotates her DD's toys daily she has so many! That's so not us!

My mum usually buys her something if she has her for the day and goes shopping....usually a book....but that's what grandparent's are for!

We usually just buy stuff when they need it or if theres something new out and they've been really good then we get it for them. We have learnt in the last couple of years that too many toys is a pain in the butt. Books tho - love buying books and I dont think you can ever have too many:)

My mum brought pressies back from China last week and they were so excited, my middle son said "Is it our birthdays?"

Gifts are only for special occassions here, occasionally I'll buy a golden book but really presents like toys are only for Christmas and birthdays. They're more special that way IMO, and apart from that we already have way too many as it is!

Thank you for sharing everyone:yelclap:! I think I like to buy ds toys because he's my first and I like the feeling of it! I think I'll slow down in buying toys. I also agree that books are one of the best things to buy for kids.
