Our little man's jaundice is hanging around - 8 weeks now. We have had some tests and the docs think its breastfeeding jaundice, final results to come monday. Any similar experiences of this?

Hi KateP, we had this experience with DS2.

He had prolonged jaundice for about 10weeks and the paed. did say it was more than likely "breastfeeding jaundice" and he advised to continue bf as it would help.

We had a real rough trot, poor little fella had to have blood taken every day for two weeks to test the b.r level's (we were in hospital this whole time). He did some sunbaking in phototherapy more times than I can remember (the last time was with double lights). Just to top things off my nan passed away the day after i took him to see her for the 1st time (she waited to see him).

Has Elliot had blood test's? That's the best way to see how high his b.r level's are.

My bubs only had a mild jaundice i suppose & was only picked up by the midwife who did the home visit the day after we got home ( i left hospy after 2 days ) so i just kept him near the windows & this helped i was lucky though.
Ive heard that bf does prolong jaundice but it isnt a bad thing as in its bubs way of restoring blood levels or something like this probably ask JanetF she knows more than i ever could LOL !
But id say as long as the doc has run some tests all should be fine :)

Ethan and Lachlan's mum. Thank you. The last 2 tests he had showed his b.r level dropped from 157 - 135. Our GP said that 250+ was when they are veyr concerned???

Ur thoughts? Anyone?
