i am beginning to panic as i know a total of 2 people in perth and will be moving there in 6 or so weeks
ozzy will be just under six months old and my partner works overseas month on/month off so i'm feeling a bit like i might be stranded in a strange city where i don't even know where the local shops are or where the doctors is or anything...
we'll be moving to the carlisle area and renting for 6 months while we find somewhere to buy so i thought i'd come in here and introduce myself to the perth mums so i can pretend i have friends when i get there! if anyone can recommend cool places to take a baby and meet other mums and stuff that'd be great :)
Hi there & welcome to bubhub.
Well it sounds like a scary move for you guys but I'm sure things will be alright in the end.
good luck with it & i hope to chat with you soon.
Hi ozzysmum,
I know how you feel. We moved to Perth about 5 weeks ago and we knew nobody. This forum has been a great place to meet people, so far we have had one meet up and another planned for next week. Come along when you get here.
You could join a playgroup, mothers group as your bubs is still little or try local Australian Breastfeeding Association meetings to meet other mums.
For the local shops look on Sensis maps website it can show you the local shops in area and drive around a bit when you get here. Think street directories show most shopping centres too. They are very well sign posted here.
Everybody I have met here so far has been really welcoming and lovely.
I am still searching for a good GP but word of mouth is best for that. My paedatrician gave me a name of one here, so you could ask your existing specialists if they know anyone.
Good luck with the move :)

Hi OzzysMum
Im sure you will love it here in Perth. Where are you moving from?
I moved here a year ago (exactly today!) from Scotland when my little Un was 6 weeks, I too know how scarey it is.
I have really felt like I have made friends since joining the bubhub forums.
We all had a good time at the last meet and there is one planned for next week. I cant make that one cause I am working but Im hoping to plan another one soon after. You should definitely come along and meet everyone.
Feel free to ask questions on Bub Hub. Like Sarah said, word of mouth is the best way to find out about things, always better if it comes from a recommendation!
Hope to speak to you soon

Hi Ozzysmum!!
I'm always on the lookout to meet new people (as long as they can overlook my addiction to exclaimation marks!!) Hope to see you when you arrive:)
Knowing 2 people is great! LOL, I have been here (well close to Perth, in Rockingham actually) for about 14 years now, and I dont have any friends to go visit, or for them to come here ;) I was never into playgroup and mothers groups. Thats were the internet is great :D All my friends are online,
anyway, if you are into mothers group and playgroups, there are a few around, then theres the perth meets from mums here.

thanks everyone :D i feel better already! we are moving from sydney where i have lived most of the time since i moved here from britain as a kid. i will definitely come along to a bubhub meet up when i get to perth, i have been to one of the sydney ones and it was really nice.
i've never been a big one for mothers groups (other than bubhub!) and such but think it will be really good for both me and ozzy so i'll hunt some of them down when arrive and see how we go - now i've just got pack :(
wow, claire, moving from scotland to australia with a 6 week old!! people were impressed with me making it as far as the shops when ozzy was that age

Hi Ozzysmum
You will love living in Perth!
I am in High Wycombe about 10-15mins drive from Carlisle. I am not yet a mummy, but will be in 13 weeks!
Hope your move goes sooth.

hi ozzysmum,
Me too i just moved to perth about 3 months ago now and live just over the railway tracks from carlisle in vic park, carlisle is quite small but they do have the usual a butcher, bakery, newsagent, corner store, chemist actually it even has a small supermarket but i wouldnt reccommend it. I usually shop in vic park centre( coles/target/bakers delight) or belmont forum(kmart/bigw/woolys/coles) they are both only 5 mins from carlisle and if you have a car no problems, there is also a huge westfield in cannington not even 10 mins away.
Belmont has a pretty good pool for kids inside and heated( my daughter loves it) and theres a library in Vic park and a lot of good restaurants, cafes and pubs.....well they look good ive only been out to one.
There are probably heaps more things but i am still discovering things too.
I reccommend you buy the perth street directory as soon as you arrive i would be totally lost without mine.
Ok good luck with the move.

packing is going... well-ish. i'm working on a box per day and most days do actually manage it. all the books are done, trinkets (and boy do we have a lot) are next  *takes deep breath* am excited really :)
hey jas, thanks for all that info (and everyone else, of course) my man wants to buy a gps thing for the car that tells you where to go and where everything is, but i think i'll need a map book too - i like to be able to see it properly! i don't drive yet but am going to get my licence when we get there so (ahem) watch out for a crazy learner trying to park at belmont forum in a few weeks!
