Hi Ladies

I have a Medela manual breast pump but can never get any milk unless Tommy is feeding while I pump the other breast, I just can't get let down happening any other way. Even hand expressing I get nothing if Tommy isn't feeding at the other breast either.

I have heard the Avent manual breast pump actually stimulates let down, I've seen how its supposed to work and sounds like it may be what I need but don't want to waste the money if its not going to work.

So I guess my question is does anyone have any experience with the Avent pump? Does it stimulate let down as well as they say? Anyone know of any other pump that seemed to stimulate let down well?

Thanks in Advance

Amy

hey hon

have you tried heat??? my friend couldn't get 'let down' unless she put hot washers or a heat pack on her breast first (for a few minutes) - I find that I get more milk if I hop out of a warm shower before expressing????

I love the avent pump... I dont know what yours looks like - but the avent stimulates the area wide around the nipple ... the cup that hold the boob is about 10cm in diameter... to ensure that the breast fits in

hope this helps!!

I have both those brand pumps and they work equally well, If you have trouble expressing try hand expressing(without the pump, put you index finger and thumb at opposite spots on your areola and press in to your breast and towards the other finger) do this for about 5-10 min and it should if done correctly get some milk flowing then start with the manual pump to empty.

Thanks Jenny

yeah I've tried expressing after a shower, warm washers, even a warm wheat pack, dosen't seem to help.

This is a pic of the pump (http://products.consumerguide.com/media/frontend/productImages/5/2/00000102452-MedelaLittleHeartsManualBreastpump67160-large.jpeg)

It's just a hard plastic funnel. I've seen the Avent ones, with the massage bits, just wanted to know if they work ;)

Thanks

Hi Amy,
I also use the Avent pump and find it fantastic. I usually get about 60mls per side when expressing so I have no worry that bub isn't getting enough when I go out with a bottle.
Perhaps try seeing if there is a chemist near you with an Avent one to hire or if a friend has one that you could borrow to see if it works for you before you buy one as I'd hate to see you buy one then have it not help your situation.
Good luck!

I tried both when I was BF'ing and definately found the Avent was better.

You can get them from e-bay if you want to save some dollars and are happy with your method of sterilising second hand goodies.
