It's great if you're comfortable enough to feed wherever needed.

But how about the shy and first timers, or those like myself that just like a comfy quiet spot? Where are the great parents rooms located?

We've all been to the ones where the nappy bins never get emptied, the microwave is never clean and the bottle warmer has visible cooties. And the fold-down table in the disabled toilet (how they consider that a 'parents room' is a mystery!)

So.. what parents room has really impressed you with their consideration for Mums and Dads?

When I had my first baby I searched for decent feeding rooms as I prefered to bf in private.

Most of them were disgusting, just as you explained, however I did find one decent one which was in Grace Bros (Myer). It wasn't perfect but definantely the best out of a bad, stinky bunch!

Yep I have to say the one in Myer at Carindale (Brisbane) is nice and clean, if a bit small.

The main parents room at Westfield Carindale is also good - nice and big, clean, lots of chairs and space and good facilities.

Sydney CBD:

Myer has a good one. No frills, nothing special, very plain, in fact but I like that! There's nothing for him to pull off to look at. It has 2 lockable private rooms (not flimsy curtains) and a couple of armchairs in the main area, too. These armchairs face away from the nappy change area so you don't have to watch poo being cleaned as you feed. Also has a huge parent's toilet. Well maintained too.

DJs: Rubbish. There's one chair in there in the main area. There are two lockable cubicles but without chairs and without any way to fit your pram in there - it's just to change nappies. Cos, yeah, you'd need to lock the door to do that ...

Food Court under Myer: Very nice. All warmly lit and pretty with murals on the wall. Which, of course, means that the baby pulls off to check out the neat ducks and geese and things. The cubicles are lockable but it's hard to get a pram in there. The couch outside faces the nappy change area which is about 2 metres away. Nice and clean, though.

Broadway shopping centre: Level 3. Brand new, nice and clean, two well sized booths with curtains. But that's it - no other chairs or couches outside for a third mum that comes along. Great big playpen for older kids, though.

The absolute worst is in Harbourside, Darling Harbour. It seems like a forgotten storage room. The bench for changing babies is just that - a hard wood bench. No padding, nothing. The room is terribly lit. There are two chairs in there that I suspect some other mother pulled in after her from the food court. It smells funny and doesn't look very clean, either. No parents toilets, either. And, as I recall, while there is a sink, there isn't any liquid soap.

Myer at Charlestown Square (Newcastle) has a very clean, comfy parents room IMO. There is only one cubicle, but it has a lockable door, a huge area to change a nappy....the change area and the feeding area are seperated, and a toilet big enough for your pram to go in. It never smells. It's the best one I've been to IMO.

The one's in the actual shopping centre are small, dingy, dark and smell.

I'll second the Carindale ones.

My favourite would have to be the one at Toowong Shopping Villiage. Up stairs next to K-mart. It's beautiful, those couches that feel like you're sitting on clouds, warmly lit, cold drinking water, toddler toilet.
And the couches are situated so that you can see the door (important for me, I know to know who's in the room)

Westfield Tuggerah is my fave with the little curtained off rooms and also has a little playground in there for the older kids.
Erina Fair also has the curtain rooms with comfy chairs.

When we're travelling, I often breastfeed in the lobby of expensive hotels.

They're comfy, quiet and clean, there's one on just about every block (if you're in a major city) so you don't have to search for parents rooms.. especially handy if you're on foot.

Plus, there is drink service! Yay!

Their toilets are always clean, there's always a handicap one that will fit a pram.. No-one cares that you're not actually a guest there..

I'll second this - the best parents room I have ever seen.

Greenhills at East Maitland is also pretty good. they have just put new couches in there so it'ss more comfy, but no private cubicles

Maitland Mall - Awful! cold, dark and dingy with a plastic fold-out chair you are mean to feed on.

Glendale Super centre  They have cubicles, and are clean, but the chairs have low backs & high arms - unless you are feeding a little newborn, bubs will kick the arms easily. The changetables are also very hard, cold & short.

Garden City Kotara - Nice! Mothers room and separate fathers rooms (but both have signs saying fathers welcome in mothers room & vice versa) Comfy couches to feed on, again no cubicles but that didn't bother me. The toilet won't fit the pram in it, so if you need to go to the loo you need to go out to the disabled.

DJ's at Kotara - OK - private cubicles, plus a lounge in the open area. Sometimes have been a bit smelly, but most the time they are OK.

DJs in the Adelaide CBD is quite good. i've been told the one at Westfield Marion is good as well... although i am yet to use it.

i was at the shopping centre in Edwardstown the other day and DD desperately needed a nappy change... i could NOT find a parents room anywhere, even just somwhere to change her poor little bum!
