When did your period return??

Hi everyone
I just thought I'd start a thread to ask (out of curiousity mainly) when other people's period returned after baby.

I am breatfeeding, so was hoping, like some mums I've talked to, that it would be a natural period suppressant for 9-12 months. But alas, i got it back when my baby was 5 months old.

And it came back with a vengeance! Heavy, regular and painful as ever. (You'd think mother-nature could cut me some slack??). :(

Also, is it generally the same return time for each baby or different every time??

About 7 months with first baby and around 5 months for my second. From what I've heard, I think its earlier with second and subsequent babies. :cool:

Mine returned the day Eliana was 4 months old!
It has been normal so far though maybe a day longer.
I too was looking forward to a longer time without a period :(

10 mo with first :D , 4 mo with second :eek: - both breast feeding, but second one dropped night feeds very early so I blame that!

I got mine six weeks after I gave birth - xmas day in fact, great! - I was breastfeeding and pretty constantly as well - every 2 hours at that stage so it was a surprise. I had a caesar so I thought maybe there was something wrong but I checked with my sister and she had the same thing happen. It came again 6 weeks later and then I started the mini pill and it came every 2 weeks!! Arrgggh talk about making up for lost time! I stopped taking the pill - 3 periods within a month is ridiculous!!

So far so good - except for my hair falling out

Definitely returns quicker with each birth.... if my history is anything to go by.
1st child - 5 months
2nd child - 3 months
3rd child - 5 weeks! I nearly fell over... I had only just stopped bleeding from the birth... lasted about 4 days and bang! I rang my GP and he said that each after each birth it will be quicker.... must say 5 more weeks have past and nothing to date... but you never know!

I feel so cheated when I read how long you other ladies have gone!
It's just not fair!

first one returned after 7 months (on hol in amsterdam!) while I was still breastfeeding.
second one not until I weaned him at 13 months..now that was nice, but I think he was drinking a lot more milk than my first as I lost a lot of weight feeding (7 kg ligher now than when i fell with him) , so think it works as a contraceptive in my body as haven't fallen preg either time despite not using contraception.

Mine was 8 months but I didn't stop bleeding after the birth for 8 weeks (retained membraines that the public hospital kept telling me was my period). I find that now I am on no contraception that I get really bad PMS a couple of days before they are due, besides that have returned pretty normal if irregular.

I got my period back after 7 1/2 months. I was breastfeeding but my son was starting to take more & more solids.

My period was actually a little better afterwards (from what I remember). I only got two periods then fell pregnant again.

I still think that post-partum bleeding makes up for every period you miss!!!

Mine was 7 months and I must say I was kind of getting used to not getting them. I noticed that it lasted longer and was a lot heavier than it used to be.

Not happy about that at all!!!!

Mine returned about 9-10 months after birth. I was breastfeeding the whole time, but I can't remember how frequently it came after the first time.
The strange thing that did happen, and still does, my period used to last for about 7-8 days, now it's about 3 days and it stops, then almost to the minute a week later, another day of light spotting! Weird!
But I told my GP, and she said (with a smile), "most women would be happy with a short period", so I don't complain :)

hi,I got my periods at 9 months with first baby and 11 months after second..both babies were exclusively breastfed till 6.5 months.None were bottlefed.it was breastfeeding and straight to solids.. :D

I got mine back 3 weeks ago, and my son was born 4 March 04. Breastfeed till 11 months, went back on normal pill this month, and got them again, unfortunately. I really didn't want them back, as was quite enjoying not worrying about them. My mum and i would have a competition as to who hasn't had a period the longest, ( she's just gone through menopause!!!). She wins now!!

My period returned seven months after the birth of our daughter, but since then just over a month ago, I haven't had another one...

I'm starting to get concerned as my periods have always been regular. Is this normal?

i don't think there's anything to worry about at all. i have had 3 periods since my 8 month old DD was born, but my last one was nearly 2 weeks "late". Hormones are still running rampant if you're br'feeding. Even if you're not, I think it takes a while (i've read about 1 year) for your body to fully recover and settle down into its old routine. So, personally, I'm not going to start worrying about my cycle until that point.

I have been reading this thread with interest, I breastfed for 11 months without having a period. Harry weaned himself about a month ago and still no period. It's coming up to 5 weeks now and although I don't want them back I would like to have a few normal cycles before we start TTC#2. This means that I haven't had a period since I conceived Harry in June 03. They should return soon, shouldn't they????

I bled off and on for the first 14 weeks after Bailey my number 2 son was born, i finally stopped a month ago and just yesterday a month later my first normal period, boy did i forget what period pain was about lol. I started my first period straight after my first son was born too.

I had to stop brestfeeding at 6wks due to severe mastitis, I got my period 4 1/2 wks later, was very light but hung aroung for a week and a half.
