My DD is 7 weeks old and feeds at the start and at the end of every sleep cycle being every 1.5 hours. She likes to have a full feed at the start and a top up before going to sleep, during the day.

The CHN said that at this age she should be doing at least 3 hourly or 4 hourly feeds. How do I extend this time?? Or how do I get her to take more at the start of the feed? She is a bigger than average baby currently 6 kg.

Any advice would be great!!

I dont have much on advice to extend the time between feeds  but if it helps any my DS was the same at that age.
He was a bit over 6kgs at his 8wks check up and still feeding every 2hrs. My CHN said the same thing to me !!!
I just fed him when he was hungry, (how could I not??!) and he eventually got longer between feeds all by himself in his own time. He is now just over 6mths and weighs 9.6kgs and goes 4hrs between bottles, he has always been a hungry baby.
I say just feed your DD when she is hungry, as long as she is happy ;)
At least you know other babies are the same!

thanks deb&diego.

I can usually drag her out to her next feed by using the dummy, but I didn't want her to become reliant on it. I thought maybe if I used the dummy a few times until her body can comfortably accept 3 hourly.

I just don't want to change her routine all the time.

Not sure what to do?

i used to use the dummy too to drag it out which did work, now it's only used for sleep time.
if it was me (only going on what worked with my bubs and own experience of course) i'd take your DD lead and feed her when she is hungry, when her tummy can hold more milk and she is able to go longer between feeds I believe she will on her own, just let her set her own routine and it should all fall into place.
this is only my idea and what I would do, but maybe others will have different suggestions for you .... ?
good luck :D
