I completely forgot about this game! Maybe we should see who can get 100th, 500th, 1000th and 1500th? Keep everyone on their toes.
And thanks for the "exercise" reminder Kay... great idea!
Morning everyone -
Cats&kids – big hugs to you – hope your DP pulls his finger out some time soon!!!
My_lot - keep those reminders coming....
Melbourne's weather looks a lot more reasonable today - well at least the sky is blue - haven't been out yet... l should probably get some washing done .
Have a good one!

Bloody hell. I just accidentally deleted my post. That sucks.........arghhh
Anyway, congrats My_lot and Shajake for being first posters in June thread.
Lauren - my house is pretty messy at the moment so I've just put a wash on while Liam is sleeping........I'm finding it hard to get motivated to do housework
Sandy - yep, Melbourne weather looks much better today......so far. Lets hope the sun keeps shining for a while.
Liam is being such a cutie at the moment with loads of smiles and 'talking'. He's off to the paed on Wednesday for a check up regarding his reflux. GP told me to stop the zantac for 5 days before the appt to see how Liam goes and for diagnostic purposes. I'm dreading it a bit incase he gets worse but time will tell.
Off to Rye (in Melbourne) tomorrow to pick up a Swing we bought on Ebay for $46. The Fisher Price Take a Long Swing in as new condition so I hope it's good!
Have a great day ladies. I'm not so tired today....the weather yesterday dragged me down

Quick question as Liam is awake. Does everyone sterilise their dummies after each use? I just wash in hot soapy water then pour boiling water over them. What does everyone else do as I was told to sterilise (boil for 5 mins) before each use but it's a pain!

I wouldn't stop the Zantac. Your pead will be able to diagnose as it is. Beside let the pead guide you with what to do

I just wash under cold water. Not all dummies can be sterilised. Also do you sterilise everything Liam puts into his mouth?

The ABA is now recommending that you do not have to sterilise equipment any more (just wash in hot soapy water) - and even though l will still sterilise bottles and breastpump (cos l don't use them that often) - l have never ever sterilised his dummies after each use - what a pain in the a*se!! I sterilise them about once a week, unless they fall on the ground or something -- if l am out and one falls on the ground l just pop it in my mouth or rinse... but if l am at home l will sterilise it...

Did you get the red Fisher Price swing that plays music and has a mirror on the front? I think it's the same one that Reece has got.
I sterilise the dummies only when I am doing bottles as it all goes in together. Otherwise I wash them and run under hot water. I have started washing the bottles and teats in the dishwasher (top shelf) now as it gets them alot cleaner, they seem to get a build up of grease on them after a while. I just bought 5 new bottles on ebay (ah, don't we all just love ebay lol). I have 10 of them now and he uses 5 a day so I always have a full clean stash in the fridge ready to go lol.
Had a good night, didn't have to get up to R at all and he woke at 7.30am, he went back to bed an hour later until 10am so that's when our day started  . He had a blow out in his nappy this morning, it was a huggies one too. Doesn't normally happen but I had to change just about everything on him  I hope this isn't a sign that we need to go to the next size up!
I'm sitting around waiting for removalists to come and move the pool table out to the garage. I hate it when they can't give a definite time. Right now would be good as R is asleep and it's not raining (yet). I wish they would hurry up as I want to go to the shops this arvo too.

Computers should have a warning that when in use all other priorities are ignored and will continue to build up until you don't know where to start.

I have found second time around that i am not so diligent with the washing of a dummy. Not good i know but there are many things you do differently.
Why is it they have 5 bottles a day and my microwave sterilizer holds 4 bottles!!

Great stuff Hels, do you usually only have to get up to put a dummy in or feed? Elly has her last feed around 10ish and goes through until 6.30-7 but we are always falling out of bed as she wakes a few times. I know we all get excited when they sleep through but is this really just not requiring a feed?
Sorry for the double post but forgot to hit multi quote, hope not to confusing, too much going on here!!!

I just put them under hot water and wash them in soapy water once a day - I would be forever sterilising if I did it everytime she decided to spit the dummy!
I have just been to the pregnancy and baby expo - it is awesome. So many freebies, got plastic sipper cups, cubes of baby food, bibs, creams, nappies, bath toys, bath wash, little swimmers :yelclap: . I also bought 2 peapod nappies (trying to convert) and they were only $14 each with a nappy, insert and bag - I was stoked. Would have bought more but thought I had better trial them first.
Only downer of the day is that Immy decided to see how loud and long she could scream for......tried everything and she didnt settle - still dont know what it was.....took her 1 1/2 hours to settle :banghead: . :fingerscrossed: hope she sleeps for a while now.

Some nights I have to get up once or twice to resettle him. It could be that he wants his dummy, or he might have kicked off his covers. Sometimes I even put his lullaby CD on if he is quite unsettled. But he's pretty good at sleeping through and he definitely doesn't want a middle of the night feed anymore. He goes to bed around 10pm too and gets up around 10.30am, so I suppose it's fair to say that's 12.5 hours! but he does have a bottle around 7.30am so I don't know if that counts? It's all pretty confusing, but all I know is that I get alot more sleep than I used to!

Which city are you in? I went to the expo in Melb last year when I was PG, it was great and I got loads of freebies too. The peapods are a good nappy and you got them at a good price too. I have just sold 4 of my stash as my bub is getting quite big and he hardly ever wore them (I am not really much of a cloth mum). I do prefer the green kids nappies though but R only wears 1 a day, the rest of the time it's sposies. Let us know how you get on with the peapods.
Hope Immy sleeps for you now :fingerscrossed:
Well I'm still sitting here waiting for the damn removalists. Looks like I won't be going to the shops this arvo now :banghead:
R is still asleep and has been since 12.30pm (2.5 hours). He will need a feed soon and I bet that's when the guys will turn up! Not happy Jan....

Don't envy you waiting for those removalists  - it will be my turn soon as we are looking to move due to our dodgy landlord....took 7 months, many phone calls before he would fix the door to the courtyard :banghead: . I live in Sydney. What are the green ones? Havent heard of them before. And no luck - she slept 15 mins and is awake again....tried the calming stuff but not working. She is soooo tired she has bags under her eyes.

If he's waking he may be cold. Have you tried a sleeping bag? All of my kids kick their covers off so I found that during winter (while they are still little) the sleeping bags were the go!!

Sleep promotes sleep. Try 200ml of water and 5-10 drops of lavendar in a spray bottle and spray on her bed. As she warms up the area the lavendar will start to smell giving her that calming effect. It worked on Ben and Matthew while I was working on them self settling. Good luck and it's hard when they don't sleep well.

Green Kids are a pocket nappy very similar to the peapods. The difference is that they come in one size and they have velcro on the waist instead of poppers. They are also more expensive but I think it's worth it as the one size nappies last for longer.

Thanks to both of you for your advice - will give the lavender a go and look into the green nappies......gotta go as she is really unsettled, will pop in later

wow this is going quickly today... 3 pages already :ecomcity:
I guess I am the odd one out. I steralize everything that Connor plays with and all his dummies after each use. I wash all of his cloth toys and books etc too after each use... yes I am weird!
Gotta go - hes awake, back ater...
well today has been loooongg
my mum is here and is driving me batty.
she constantly wants to pick cassidy up, i have politely mentioned that i try to not hold her all day as when we have done it in the past she gets clingy and thats all she then wants to do is be held. I want her to be independent to and extent.
Mum is constantly saying that Cassidy is hungry (even if its 2 mins after a feed) and that she needs to be burped (or has wind). Geez give me a break.
I know she means well but my lovely routine i had Cassidy settled into is slowed being wrecked!
i think my mum thinks that i dont know how to clean my house either as she is constantly asking if she can do something or clean something for me. Is my house messy or something? I actually pride myself on how i keep my house. Yeah it can get a bit messy at times but it isnt really that bad :( Maybe i am wrong and it really is a pig stye.
Mum is staying until Sunday, heres hoping i can keep my sanity until then.

I'm only up to page two?? Maybe it depends on how many posts per page it is set to. At the rate we are going I think we will hit 1500 posts this month easy! Especially as it is getting colder, so we are more likely to be indoors on the computer. :D
On my Mum and Dad's computer at the moment. Have come here to escape the cold at my house, again!
I've got three dummies on rotation, and at the end of the day I'll pop them all into some boiling water for a few minutes. Liam puts absolutely everything into his mouth at the moment. I'm going with the theory that being exposed to so many germs early on in his life will build his immune system for later on. Yeah?

Hi All,
just jumping in...
The ABA is now recommending that you do not have to sterilise equipment any more (just wash in hot soapy water)
I think thats just for equipment used for breastmilk though. My Mchn told me on monday that i could stop sterilising all together at 5.5 months when solids are introduced. Not really an issue for me as i have no dummies or bottles to sterilise! I don't think I'd be bothering to sterilise dummies every 5 minutes though, i'm too lazy. I'd do them at the end of the day.
Good luck with keeping your sanity Juzzy! Mums have a habit of being very annoying don't they?!
Imogengrace - I hope she is sleeping for you now or that you at least get a nice long sleep tonight :)
I survived aqua aerobics last night but poor DH had one unhappy baby on his hands for about 20 minutes. Oh well, i'm still going next week, lol!

All i can say juzz is i am one of those people that cannot sit still. I always feel the need to clean up, even if its spotless.
It sucks alot but sadly I gotta keep busy. I hope she learns to let you be mum for awhile.
Tell her to stop backseat driving :o
ahhhhhh peace at last... DP has taken mum for a drive, they should be back any minute though!
I feel a bit like this :banghead: today!!
Heather - hope u quitting the cigs is going well! (oh as well as the pregnancy :p )
Purplebird - yeah mums are annoying, geez hope im not like that one day LOL
Juz - I had my mother here this week... and she sounds exactly like yours.
I feel your pain :)

Ditto here!

Reminds me of when my Dad visited and Ashleigh was overtired and crying and his reponse to this was "have you fed her?" OMG - no Dad I starve my baby!!!
I feel your pain Juzzy. I got the "she must be hungry" for about the first 8 weeks of her life!
I'm making a concious effort to keep up with the June thread... lets see how I go :fingerscrossed:
good luck keeping up with the thread scarlett. it seems to get busier every month!
i am from the "good for kids to be exposed to some bugs to increase their immunity" camp. i wash bottles in the dishwasher and wash and sterilise the teats only. this applies to breast milk or formula bottles.
can someone explain to me why you would sterilise bottles when feeding with formula and not if feeding with EBM?
re: dummy - would you believe we dont use one (what - you fool - i hear you cry). i got so jack of putting it back in i gave up. lily just sucks her fingers all day and uses a (breathable through) comforter for sleeps.
Good Evening All
I had a lovely day today..My friend Maree came to visit for lunch (she brought lunch) After that we went out to DFO and did a bit of shopping...I got some shoes for myself and a jumpsuit and beanie for Jackie. All were bargains!
We got back it was time for Jack's bath. He was screaming the house down and when I put him in he started smiling and laughing...Yay for the bath! He must have been exhausted as he fell asleep on the boob...he didn't even stir when I popped him in his cot and wrapped him. Hopefully he will sleep through until 4.30 again.
After reading Hels post I was wondering what is considered sleeping through?? Jack does 9 hours straight then 3.5 more after a feed. I would think that's sleeping through. Not sure what the real definition is? Does anyone know?
RE - Sterilizing....Jack has the same dummy all day unless it falls on the ground. At night I just wash them and pop them all into the microwave. Only takes 4 minutes.
DH still not home and it's now 7.30. Another night he has missed with Jack :(
It sounds like most people had a good day today - I hope they have a baby expo in Melbourne soon - it will be a totally different experience going to it as a mother (as opposed to a big fat pregnant chick)!!!
Not much to add here except Coen's weird behavior continued today - the last two days we have had 20 minute sleep periods, today was different, it was back to 45 minute sleeps, but screaming for food every 2-2 1/2 hours... not sure what is going on.
about sleeping through - it is the same as lots of things - it depends on the definition. lily sleeps from 7 to 7 with a dream feed at 1030. i call this sleeping through simply because i do!
regarding the solids debate i found these links to articles about new research about early introduction of solids may not necessarily increase the risk of alergy. i found them very interesting and though you guys might also be interested. hopefully i wont get in trouble for posting the links.

The lactation consultant I saw told me this was the case, not really sure why though, sorry. I'm not very helpful am I?! Maybe because it has anti-bacterial properties itself? :detective:
Also, another useless piece of information which I can't remember the source of (Kidwrangling? Babylove? Baby Sleep Book? - there are so many  ) is that 5 hours is considered 'sleeping through'. So, Lauren, you are definitely doing well with Jack. So far I've only had a few nights with a 5 hour stretch and that is from 7-12 so completely rubbish. I think I must be doing something wrong.
Great work on being smoke free Eskimomumma, well done!

Yep this is what I thought as well. Due to the antibodies and immunities provided in breastmilk they say u only need to wash bottles for EBM in warm soapy water.
And on sleeping through.. I think anything from 5 hours or more is considered sleeping thro for a bubs. Never mind us mummies!

Not at all Hannah....I think every baby is different. Jack goes well at night but during the day he is challenging...not much sleep still.
Ziggy - How has Lily been on the solids? Has it helped with the vommiting?

I was told that sleeping thru is when they can resettle themselves after waking up. I really classify sleeping thru though as when the baby doesnt wake up at night anymore
Kaelan has been completlely feral again tonight. He went down for a nap at about 6pm, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to quickly cook dinner while he was asleep. Of course, as soon as I went to sit down to eat my food, he woke up and started screaming. I put him in the highchair next to me.. and he continued screaming. Normally I would sacrific my nice warm dinner to comfort him/feed him.. but not tonight. I was determined to finish at least one meal even if it meant he made enough noise to bring the house down... and he did. Poor little poppet just couldn't understand that mummy wanted to finish her lamb chops and veges.
Just to see if he'd stop screaming, I put a tiny bit of mashed potato/pumpkin on the end of my finger and put it in his mouth. He kinda paused for a minute, pulled a funny face then continued screaming... I don't think he was very impressed !!! :D
Anyways, I've *finally* got him into bed just now (after he sat in his high chair and watched BB for a bit)... and he is using his 'grobag' for the first time, so it will be interesting to see how he sleeps tonight (normally he sleeps for 12 hours... we're very lucky in that respect).
Re: sterilising. I never even think to sterilise K's dummies... mind you, he rarely uses one. If I do pick one one up to use, I usually just rinse it under the tap. His normal bottles, teats, rings etc are sterilised either in the microwave or soaked in Miltons (depends on how many bottles I have to do). My MCHN said I can stop sterilising at six months, so I'll be doing that.
SO i am just going to reply like so...
Sleeping Through: it's great to hear everyones thoughts. I think as i said it means it (the bub) does not require a feed. Ok so Elly does this but it is purely the dummy that is getting us up!! Are we too late, as in weaning the dummy early and too early to control cry her out of it...mm make sense???
SHe is still faily iregular during the day and i would love this to change. Mia was so organised it was beatiful. NIght she has a feed about 10.00-10.30ish, a rollover as such after a good sllep but stirs fairly regularly from 3-4ish.
Sterilising: Mia (DD1) spent the first 18 months on a farm, cattle yards, big back yard, dogs, chooks, local pub and i can seriuosly count on one hand the amount of time she has been sick. Bottles with her i did sterilise until about 8 motnhs but don't think i will with Elly
I need to have a bit of a vent...my DH wants to go to the gym with his friend this morning.....I'm furious! He hasn't been home hardly all week and has constantly complained to me that he doesn't get to spend time with Jack and now he want's to go out and leave me home alone again
I don't think it's too much for him to help look after Jack on the weeeknds to give me some sort of break. The D in DH stands for di*k this morning!!!!!!

Lauren - I bet most of us have had the same experience with DH (**** heads) as opposed to Dear Husbands or Partners being unhelpful, lazy or going out. My hubby is out at the moment but I can't complain as he's gone to get fish & meet from Springvale market. He is going wine tasting next week and said I can always come with Liam but I think it might be too hard. I've noticed on the weekends I STILL do most things for Liam, except hubby might bath him and feed him a couple of times.
Serilising equipment - yep I also heard EBM bottles just need hot soapy water and rinse and air dry and you don't have to sterilise them.....the teats you use would have to be sterilised though I imagine? Doesn't make sense otherwise as you have to sterilise teats & bottles for formula milk.
I missed live chat.......hope it was good.
Cats&Kid - yep, I've had the same comments when my DH is ****ed off says things like I just sit on my butt all day or go out with bubhub or mother's group! I haven't gone 'out' with mothers group yet and bubhub meets are only every 2-3 weeks! You can imagine the argument we had that day!!! He's since been a lot better thank god. They can be real ****s sometimes.

Lauren my DH is pretty much the same. He has only spent time with Ashleigh on his own about three times! And I had to ask "permission" to go to a friend's birthday drinks tonight - therefore he would need to look after Ashleigh. Why do I feel like I need to ask this as a favour? Grrrr...
Ok, my vent is over for the moment :)

Sorry to hear about the selfish partner's, not a good start to the weekend
My DH is going to the Cash and Carry shop this morning, but only because he needs to get supplies for work. I'm staying at home as I have someone coming to pick up a fax we sold on eBay. Then later we are going to get R's hands and feet done and then will call into the shops.
We picked up the dining setting last night and I'm very happy with it
The removalists for the pool table didn't rock up until after 4pm. Typically R was then awake and grizzly and we didn't make it to the shops.
This morning R woke at 7.30am, I put him into our bed with DH and asked him to watch him whilst I made his milk.
I came back 5 mins later and this is what I found;

So yesterday we had 41 posts, which felt like a lot. But if you multiply 41 by 30, the number of days in June, we only get 1,230.
We're never going to make it to 1500 posts at this rate!

No, I don't think its too much to ask lauren. I hope you get some time to yourself this afternoon - and you definitely deserve a nice long lie in and brekkie in bed tomorrow.
Penny what is it with these babies at the moment?? they all seem to be a tricky. Do you think it's Kaelan's teeth bothering him?
Imogengrace - glad she slept for you and made up for yesterday. How funny is it that you can't say cr@p! It took me by surprise too when I tried to use it once, I felt really naughty, lol.
Love the picture Hels - how cute!
I am sooo tired today. My little madam decided to wake at 10 pm (as DH walked into the bedside drawers and made a noise), then at 11, 12, 1, 3 and 5 - all for about 5 minutes but I had to feed her so that she would go back to sleep quickly and I could sleep. What a nightmare. I hope its a one off otherwise DH can sleep in the same room as her and Im going in the spare room with earplugs! I can hardly function today. We went round the corner to watch an auction (similar house to ours) and we might head out for lunch soon but I think that's all I'll manage for today...zzzzz

Sounds wonderful that so many babies are sleeping. I have my :fingerscrossed: that it will happen to me eventually. I'm still up ever 2 or so hours. 1 hour if I just BF, 2hrs if I ff so not sure what's going on. I'm lucky if he sleeps 3 hours at any one time.
As to sterillising, I'm using milton solution on everything and do put the dummies in if they've been dropped or become furry (2 felines :) ) generally once a day. My DP has gone overboard with disinfectant and says things like "at least the kitchen is clean, for once" and even does the bath, though no one has used it. WT?
Hels*Bels :) Love the photo - I have quite a few the same.
I'm off to the baby expo today..... hopefully, depending on DP. Didn't know it was on last year and I'm desperate for a change table - my back isn't coping well with changing on the water bed. Matty will miss it as he likes the waves and giggles when I bounce it up and down.
Hope everyone has a better afternoon with DP/DH (they're more problem than the babies at times) - I can relate to the alternative meaning of DH :D

Mon - Love the photos, there's certainly alot of stimulation in that cot!
We had a good day, got R's hands and feet done this arvo. We decided not to have a photo in the frame as we have a professional photographer coming out to the house to take some shots so I didn't want to over do it. Will have to wait about 4 weeks for the hands and feet to be ready though.
Went to Frankston shopping centre afterwards for somewhere different. Bought R some new clothes, K Mart had 30% off kids clothes but when we got to the checkout they tried to charge the full price, but I soon set them straight! So I got 2 nice towelling and fleece lined all-in-ones for $7.99 each. I find that alot of the fleecy stuff goes all bobbly after a couple of washes, but towelling, cotton and plush all wash well :p .
Also bought more Babylove nappies as this week Safeway has them for $25.99 incase anyone is interested. I have an unopened packet of Huggies that I am going to return as DH paid $36 for them and I prefer the Babyloves now. I've got heaps to keep me going, plus my MCN's.
Anyway, better go and stop :ecomcity:
Have a good night everyone, it's quiet here today what are we all doing?
Hels - Other than getting the hands and feet done, your day sounds very similiar to mine.
We went shopping at Northland today. We hit Kmart so I picked up a couple pairs of 00 trackies and 00 jeans... bit of a bargain with the extra 30% off. Also went to Safeway and bought the Babylove nappies... we use them during the day and have never had any leaks. I'm still using Huggies overnight though and that is purely because I can't bring myself to get rid of them altogether.... I love the brand too much.
For the record, Toys R Us have sales as well... and they are selling the big boxes of Huggies for $31.90 I think ($10-$15 cheaper than the supermarkets).
We were planning on spending up big at Baby Target (15% off storewide like normal Target)... however, the other stores ended up being a lot cheaper anyway.. so we didn't bother.
We're having trouble settling K at night. Lastnight after I posted, he woke up several times and didn't settle properly until 11:30pm... I guess we can't really complain, because he did sleep through until 9:30am. Tonight he is being really restless again... falls asleep then wakes up screaming every 20-30 minutes. I'm not sure if his sudden change in sleeping patterns is because of teething or because of hunger (he seems to keep drinking when he's awake)... the way he is going, I may be forced to try some Farex to see if that would help. Hmmm.. we'll see.. I really am wanting to get as close to six months as I can... but I guess if Kaelan dictates otherwise, then there isn't a whole lot I can do.
Ok, now I'm rambling :)
Hels and Mon - love your photos !!

I had a packet of Farex in my hand in the supermarket and I um'd and ah'd for a few minutes and then put it back. Couldn't bring myself to buy it just yet lol.
My problem is that we want to bring R's bedtime forward to around 8pm, but this means he will only have 4 feeds during the day (the last one at 6.30pm). I don't know whether to wake him for a feed before we go to bed (at around 11pm) or leave him to sleep, but this means he might wake up in the night or early in the morning for a feed.
I was thinking about feeding him milk at 6.30pm and then giving him some farex before bed. At the moment he has a bottle at around 9.30pm and then goes to bed until 7.30am.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
Lauren - Hmmm that is really unfair
Hels - that photo is cute - Reece looks gorgeous - Oh and on the farex, my mchn suggests when you start kids on solids always begin in the morning - that is, give them their first milk feed as normal - then about an hour or so later try them with the farex... this gives them all day to have a reaction to it... once you know they are fine with it (a couple of days) you can introduce it twice a day - she suggests any new food you then introduce should always be in the morning --
Penny - I can't believe Kaelan didn't sleep until 6 - both he and Coen were tired when they were together (Coen didn't wake up until we pulled in to the driveway incidentally)! You know they say sleep begets sleep - is there any chance of getting K to have a sleep in the morning some time? I hope you both have a better night tonight
:hugs:for you Hannah - that would have been torture! I hope you both have a better night tonight - Coen woke at 3 & 6 last night and l put ear plugs in after both feeds so that l wouldn't get woken up by his stirring noises... and l slept in until 8.30 :smiliedance:
Cats&Kid - however did you manage changing nappies on a waterbed???? you must be a :wizard:
Mon - that is a gorgeous shot of liam in the clothes basket
Our day was okay -went to the inlaws - she told me l overdressed Coen (after telling me his feet were cold and didn't l put some booties on him (l had incidentally he had kicked them off in the pram)) - then she told Coen to stop looking at me as he gets to see me all the time - he should look at her she said... I was a little furious by the time we left (can you be a little furious - probably not) - the woman annoys me! Rant over! DH has been really good - but l am frustrated with him this evening - l wanted something sweet and was going to make these chocolate cups - but he complained about the extra dishes -- l could only make them if l was going to do the dishes - l have been doing the dishes every night so that he can play with Coen - and in all honesty probably would have done these dishes as well - but in the end he p!ssed me off so l didn't make them -- but l still want something sweet!!!
I'm just being stubborn l guess... good night everyone

This is a similar dilemma that I've been having. I'd like to move Liam's bedtime forward, but that will mean he'll only have 4 feeds, and I hate waking him for the last one, but I don't want him waking in the wee hours of the morning either.
At the moment I have decided to take each day at a time. Sometimes he'll need feeds closer together during the day, so the 5th feed is around 9pm. Other times the 4th feed is around 8pm, and I think I'll leave him on those occasions. Trial and error I guess. But as you have kind of said, all of this could change once we introduce solids.
Two weeks ago I gave Liam some mashed potato on my finger and he didn't know what to do with it. But yesterday I gave him a taste of gravy and he LOVED it! I'm not ready to move him to solids yet, but I figure it can't hurt for him to have a taste of a few things.
DH has a bunch of his friends over at the moment, and Liam has been introduced to his first role-playing game. BORING! When Liam was born, one of the guys gave him a pair of fluffy dice... 20-sided fluffy dice. I truly am raising a geek.

So pleased many of us are having similar situations.
I will preface this post by saying i think we were spoilt with MIa as she was so organised from about 12 weeks we knew where we were at all time.
Have thought the reason for her waking from around 4-6am is hungry but she only ever drinks about 150mls (satisfied) and her last feed at 10.30-11pm is the fifth. Lucky for u she loves her day sleep and unlike Mia i am constantly gettig her up for her day feeds. I always followed the dont wake a sleeping baby theory with Mia but that is because she never went through a feed.
Elly is still as random as rainfall in the outback!! Tonight, like you Hels we thought long and hard, well as much as yuo can when you have a child or two about, what we do with her late feed. We have been giving her one about 10-10.30 but have been out. She had one at 6 before we left, had a power snooze while out for tea. Came home she was as happy as larry and we let her have a play. Wouldn't take a bottle from my mum (another story). So i wrapped her, relaxed her then she drank 150mls at 9.00.......soooooo do we let her go and wear the fact she may wake for another feed or rollover feed at 11.00ish!!
NOw that we have not had to middle of the night feed for a few weeks i dread the thought of having to. Selfish, i don't know??
Does anyone try to align their bubs with a 2 4 6 routine or a 7 11 3, if so what works?
Nappies: i was such a Huggies girl with Mia but budget is straying my opinons these days. Elly is so inbetween newborns and whatever the next size is it is so annoying more than anything. We were using Woolies select but they don't seem to be holding the volume. Huggies next size are too big. Went to Babylove next size and although they seem to wrap around her waist they are not leaking.
Pooh: strange question but how does your baby pooh. I know it is different with BF to FF but when Elly is consistent she has fairly runny poohs that stink real bad. She has a bit of a snotty nose and we gave her two doeses of panadol over the past two days and she got consipated. I know that this happens but i think this has really affected her bodily functions. Double egded sword, the panadool may help the cold but the rest of her body doesn't seem to like it.
I hope my reply or comments are not too impersonal, i'm still trying to disolve real names with forum names. I know who i am talking to but sometimes the names escape me.
..Make note to self...learn names and apply to forum posts!!

Im having similar sleep problems with Ashleigh (re to give or not to give extra feed).
She usually has her 4th bottle for the day at around 6:30pm and generally is in bed by 8 - 8:30 and this is when she has her long sleep.
Recently she has started waking at 4:30am (but had previously been sleeping thru until 7ish), so I tried giving her a "top up" in bed 1.5 hours after she went down for the night, and that didn't seem to help.
So then I tried again with top up, and when she woke early changed her nappy coz it seems to get quite full with that top up, but she wouldn't resettle. Ok so her nappy doesn't seem to be the problem.
I wonder whether it is actually the cold that is waking her up. It always seems to be the same time. And the fact the she used to sleep thro without that top up anyway... what do you ladies think?
And should I actually be worried that she is only having 4 x 180ml bottles when recommended feeds on the tin is 5 of them?
Tonight I am going to rug her up a bit more (I am paranoid about overheating her tho) and see how we go.
Does anyone here use Grobags? Would love to know if they are worth the $$?
Karen

Sandy - Thanks for the tip on feeding solids. When we start them, I'll do a morning feed first.
Blubber - Reece is normally on a 7/11/3/6.30/9.30 feed routine. But today he woke up at 7 so that makes it earlier which is better. If we cut one out it will be the 9.30pm feed, but we are concerned about how this will affect his night-time sleep pattern. Sounds like alot of us have the same issues. We have decided to keep with this routine until we start solids, as I don't think it will be long now. I just gave R a taste of my yogurt and he is doing much better with his tongue action and he kept wanting more of it lol.
He does no#2 usually once a day in the morning and it's yellow and quite runny but not watery. It smells like mushy peas (sorry if TMI). He is fully bottle fed and I use thickened formula.
Well I am supposed to be doing some bookwork and then we are going to go and visit our friends who had a bub almost 2 weeks ago. I'll try to get some photos this time too.
Just wanted to add, has anyone used that auction site called Oztion? I missed out on a kids clock on eBay and I found one on Oztion and got it cheaper. Alot of eBay sellers went over there after eBay increased their selling fees last year. I've started listing some of my leftover stock on there so I'll see how I go. Thought I would mention it as it looks pretty good.
thanks Heather!!!
I use a sleeping bag - its a "pure baby" one - Coen loves it, l also just bought another one (as a spare) for $30 - it is pure cotton - l'll just go check the brand... the spare is "living textiles" - my advice would be to get one with short sleeves in a natural fibre like cotton... I got a cheapie from big w for $6, but its long sleeves and polyester - l doubt l will ever use it - but if l have to l will have him just a short sleeved onsie...
In the cotton sleeping bags l have Coen in a wondersuit with a blacket on top also - he seems to be quite satisfied with that... l check his chest every now and again (every few nights or so) to check that he is not getting too hot /cold...
Coen still wakes for 1-2 feeds during the night, last night was fantastic, bed at 8, up for a feed at 4 and then slept until 7.45am - l could definitely get used to that!!!
Good luck everyone with their night time / solids dilemma's...
Talking of poos... Coen has had three runny poos today - and he has been sleeping very easily every 3 hours... l hope he is not coming down with something... (and the poos have been a bit smelly also) Gross... l don't know how you ladies do cloth napies, Coen leaked on his cloth nappy that l have laying over the change table -- gross!!! Its currently soaking in napisan!!! Gotta love that napisan...

Hi ladies,
Wow, I've missed out on so much, once again
Sandy - you cracked me up talking about those yummy chocolate cups you were going to make but DH saying you would have to do the dishes if you made them because you would make more dishes........typical! BTW we bought a Fisher Price Aquarium from Ebay secondhand for $15. It's the one that goes on the cot.
Superfrog (Mon) - I love the photo of Liam in the cot with all those toys your MIL had put on the cot........how funny!
Purplebird - I hope you had a good night last night and better than Friday night? That sounds very tiring getting up that often....I feel like **** after getting up at 5am last night to change Liam's nappy and not getting enough sleep but that doesn't compare does it
Hels - you asked a number of posts ago if I bought the Fisher Price take a long swing with the mirror on it? It's the one with the flower mirror.......does the seat in yours sit almost horizontal when it's not moving? Mine isn't very upright and was wondering if this is how it's meant to be? Otherwise we're really happy with it.
Scarlett - it's so hard to know why babies wake in the middle of the night (other than hunger, dirty nappy or hot/cold)........Liam's been doing that a bit lately but it's a full nappy because after we change him he goes back to sleep. As for the amount of formula and following whats on the tin........I follow the equation the MCHN gave me which is 150mls x babies weight divided by the number of feeds per day you give baby to work out how much. Eg Liam is 6.1kg (at last weigh in) so that works out to be 900mls per day, then we spread it over 5 feeds which is 200ml x 3 feeds and 150ml x 2 feeds. Our formula (if you follow the tin closely) if 50mls water for each scoop. It might be that your bub is hungry but check the equation. My MCHN prefers us to feeds Liam 150mls over 6 feeds but this would mean feeding in the middle of the night & I prefer not to if possible (or cramming the feeds closer together but formula takes 3 1/2 to 4 hours to digest apparently).
ok cassidy has a cold and is having a few issues sleeping during the day because of it (well i am assuming thats the reason anyway). She is waking every 40 minutes but as soon as i pick her up she goes back to sleep. She is all chesty and keeps coughing and sneezing. The poor bubba.
Ok so i may still be the only person doing this but... DP wants me to stop feeding Cassidy to sleep at night. The thing is, it is working for us. I dont know any other way to get her to sleep LOL. I have tried a few things but feeding her to sleep is the best way to keep her sleeping for a longer period if that makes sense.
Any suggestions?
Another quickie.. because I have to start dinner and then get ready for work.
Kaelan has had a BIG day today... not only did he try out his Jolly Jumper for the first time (absolutely loved it !!)... he also tried some Farex as well. We think he must have enjoyed the Farex, because he would start crying if we didn't get it into him quick enough !! *LOL* The makings of a little piggy me thinks.. :D

Liam has cried so much today. :crying: He doesn't have high temp, he's not too hot, not too cold... I just don't know.
He also hasn't slept much today. 15 minutes here and there, but wakes up crying, which is unusual.
I felt like I had a blocked milk duct yesterday, but it cleared up this morning. Not sure if that would explain it.
At least DH has been here today to help. Hope we don't have a similar day tomorrow.

Jo - the swing is quite upright when he's not in it.
Penny - Congrats on the jolly jumper (Reece has the same one) and the solids. I bought some rice cereal today and I'm going to put a little bit in his bottle tonight before bed. He also had some yogurt earlier.
We went to visit our friends this arvo (with the new bub). Reece screamed from the minute we got there to when we left. I was so embarrassed and uncomfortable as the in-laws were there and they must have thought "what the hell do we have here". I hate it when this happens but he was over tired and I had nothing for him to sleep in as I didn't take the pram etc. He fell asleep straight away in the car on the way home and has been asleep in his swing ever since.
I have made a decision tonight about his bedtime etc - I am going to let him sleep for as long as he wants to, then I am going to feed him his normal 200ml bottle, he can stay up for an hour then it's bath time, and another top-up bottle with a bit of farex in it and then bed. I'll let you know how we go tomorrow :fingerscrossed: .
Hi Ladies and babys,
I haven't had time to read the posts and will catch up on them on thursday when i get back. I'm hoping to get to live chat.
We are still in townsville and both bub and i are sick again but its just a head cold. We haven't stopped since we got here and M has been pass the parcel and is really sooky.
We went to my grans house today and it was harder then i thought as the whole family was there (I have 7 aunts and uncles plus there partners and kids) so i'm having a pretty bad day.
The funeral is on tuesday arvo and i don't no how i'm going to go.
I'm off to eat dinner and go to bed i will talk to you on thursday i hope you are all doing well and all ur bubs are good.

Hi All,
Scarlett - we use a grobag for Connor and its well worth the money. We bought him a bigger size one so it will last him (I think it for 9 - 18 month babies or something like that - its soooo long) It has been great. I have to say that I read your post and it was like I had written it - Connor is now waking at 4:40am too!!! :banghead: I think it is because he is cold - the grobag is good until the room reaches 16 degrees or under and we live in the Hills and as you can imagine its bl00dy freezing here in the early hours of the morning - its always about 4 or 5 degrees cooler up here than in Adelaide. Tonight I have tried putting a blanket over him as well. See how it goes. Oh and I love the fact that you are a South Aussie - I can say where I live and you will get it!!!
Mon - Cute pics - has your MIL ever heard of "over stimulation" LOL at least Liam has a few to choose from!
Hels and others... re sleeping. Could you wake your bubbas earlier? and the put them to bed earlier? Our routine is as follows...
6:30am - wakes for nappy change & feed
9:30am - 2nd feed
12:30pm - 3rd feed
3:30pm - 4th feed
6pm - bath
6:30 pm - 5th feed and straight to bed
This works really well for us and he sleep through 99% of the time (up until his little feral episode last week!) In between feeds I keep him up for 1.5 hours then put him to sleep and he settles himself and sleeps for about 40 mins.
Hope this could be useful??
oh yeah Hels - Love the pic too. All too often Dh does this in our house too.
Well we have tried to change Connors formula to see if it makes a difference to his issue with constipation and continual spewing... I bought some NAN formula and OMG - he has been on it for 3 days and barely drinking anything - he will only have a max of 80 mls and then spews it all back up again and then this arvo while we were out he had a massive bout of Diarrhoea - and it was black, like oil. Poor bubba DH went down to the shops and we have put him back on his s26 tonight and he drank 240mls and is now zonked out in his cot. Think we will just stick with it.
I also tried to feed him a tiny bit of mashed up banana this morning - whilst sitting in his high chair for the first time today (:smiliedance: so cute!! my boys growing up!) he loved it!!! Like a lot of you Im just giving it to him to try, going to hold off on solids til 6 months if possible.
Leashie - :hugs:
Lauren - Hope your DH has spent some time with Jack today. I sometimes don't get my DH and cant understand why he wants to do his own thing instead of playing with his son... *sigh* Men!!
Penny - How bizzare that we are being replaced - itys gone so quickly hasn't it!! Oh and BTW Scrubs Season 5 is for sale on ebay!!! Im going to get it, cant wait to restart my scrubs addiction!!
DH and I watched "a night at the museum lastnight" - so I am just letting you all know I actually missed an episode of the Bill - first time in ages and I didn't die from the withdrawls!!
...geez I ramble...

Squiggles - I like your routine  The only thing that probably wouldn't work for us is going only 3 hours between feeds. Reece really needs 3.5 - 4 hours or he just messes around and won't drink. I do like the idea of waking him earlier in the morning to fit it all in and bring bedtime earlier, so thanks for the suggestion.
Well, I'm off to bath him now and then try to get him to bed. Think I will have an early one myself too.

Squiggles - yes I would know where you are talking about! Glad u r no longer a loner here hehe. Sounds like the grobag is worth a go then... i have been keeping my eye on a few on eBay, and yep was looking at the 6 - 18 mth size, and 2.5 tog rating.
On Connor's constipation, I have a feeling banana can cause constipation as well, so maybe not a good food to start him on (altho such a small amount shouldn't matter)? I could be wrong! My friend also has a Feb baby who has constipation problems... she was giving her baby diluted prune juice daily to help but this started giving her colic, so now she gives her a teaspoon of brown sugar diluted in 100mls water and that helps keep her regular.
Ashleigh's routine (until this 4:30 am waking thing) was:-
7:30 Wake up / nappy change / feed
10:30ish next feed
2:00ish next feed
5:00ish next feed
8:00ish last feed, bath, bed for the night.
(this is rough - she basically feeds every 3 - 4 hours, and sleeps between 1 - 2 hours at a time. Of course this isn't always the case!)
But yeah, this has gone to cr@p this last week :(
I have a feeling she is getting some teething pain now as well as she is chomping on everything and drools a lot, and has been a bit whingy during feeds as I have read that their sucking can cause their gums to be quite painful.
Hels - I know exactly how you would have felt at your friends place ... l hope Reece settles for you okay tonight
Lauren - did DH give you some time off over the weekend?
Jo - I got an aquarium too (off ebay as well - we might have actually been bidding again each other previously - l hope not!!!) l got it for $10.50 hopefully they will let me pick it up some time soon...
Penny - Wow!! so you took the plunge... any changes in K's behavious, temperament, poo's etc?
Hi to everyone else - hope your having a good night tonight - Coen had another weird day - something is up with this boy of ours - he had three runny poos and was fussing at the breast quite a bit... and we took a friend out for dinner and he was niggling the whole time... ( that was possibly overtired)... who knows??? Lets hope that l have another night like last night... :fingerscrossed:

... fussing at the breast quite a bit...
I feel like Liam has been fighting me for every breast feed today. What kind of fussing does Coen do? Liam thrashes his head around, scratches my chest, grabs at my clothes, and sometimes punches as well. But if he pulls himself off he gets all distressed and starts crying. Fun times. Hope this isn't permanent... he used to be relatively calm when feeding.
Sorry, haven't caught up with everyone's posts today. It's all about me today!

Sorry, another question... when do babies start dreaming? Liam has started to wake up crying, but he doesn't even seem to be fully awake. Usually I can pop his dummy in and he'll instantly be happy again and go back to sleep. Maybe he is dreaming of a world without boobies?
must be the weekend for ebay purchases. Just bought Cassidy a Fisher price swing that has barely been used, really cheap too...

Just occurred to me when I looked at the washing basket pic again that Liam's cheeks have been unusually red this weekend. He's probably teething! That would explain it all the crying and feeding issues. Will have to check it out in the morning.
Night!

Jojo - thanks for the info re how much formula bubs should be getting. Ashleigh is 5.2 kilos and she's only at the moment (usually) having 4 bottles which is only 720mls, but she is content on this (sometimes she doesn't even finish the bottles!), so I'll just keep an eye on how she is after each feed I guess.
SuperFrog - Ashleigh does the crying / whimpering in her sleep. A few times she has been snoozing in my arms when she has done it and she sounds sooooo sad. Almost makes me want to wake her and say "it's ok, mummy is here!". I was wondering about the dreaming too! And on teething, yep I have read that babies can start getting the actual teething pain 2 months before any other signs of teething so this is a big possibility for our babies having unsettled times now! Not looking forward to the full on teething!
Good news - she slept thro last!!! YAY no 4:30 am wake up call! I rugged her up a bit more so maybe the cold WAS the problem! Fingers crossed she has good sleep again tonight :) I feel so refreshed today.. I even went to bed early in case it was another bad night!
Jen & Scarlet: There is another SA person here. ALthoughwe are in Broken Hill, 50ks over the SA/NSW border i am a SA. MOved here 8 months ago. It seems that like many things in SA no one has caught onto Bub Hub.
Teething: Can be something that some bubs fly through and others really suffer. DOn't dread the worst becasue sometimes it is not that bad. ALthough in saying that when it is bad it is horrible.
Rountines or something that may closely resemble them: Elly goes between 3.5-4 hours and usually has a good sleep after every feed. 2 hours usually I think this can sometimes play around with forming any pattern. Have said before i never like waking her but have to if she is going to get enough feeds in during the day. I am becoming quiet frustrated with it all actually.
Night Waking: it is so dam cold here over the night i think that it the only reason Elly is stirring. Usually between 3.30ish and 5. SHe is wrapped, rugged up, heater in her room, what else to do. Does any one have bub sleeping in a beanie? I was a little worried to do this.
Dreaming: I think it is a little hard to say. I guess we knew with Mia when she actually started getting up in the morning and talking about them. This was really only 6 months ago. SHe has been a great talker and communicator from an early age so it was not that she couldn't converse. Perhaps like us we don't always remember when we dream
Hope everyone has a good day.
morning everyone. wow what a lot of posts for me to catch up on!
well i had some weekend!
on the friday morning my relatives and i went shopping for things for the baptism and my nephews(DN) birthday party. my SIL bro and dn all arrived at our house while we were out but dp was home and id given them a key to get in anyway...so we rushed home from the shops to our house to find SIL in bed and yelling like a nutter at my bro (long drive? LOL) so we all go upstairs and the rest of the family arrive. in front of all of them SIL tells my brother to "wash and sterilize the babies bottles" (hes 2) he said he was busy and she just went off at him that he doesnt do anything to help with the baby (they have one child and he works 7 days a week!) then she said she was going to fly home with DN and he could drive home...
so she turned up in a ***** of a mood and it just got worse and worse
she yelled at my mother not to tell her what to do with HER son when my mother said to feed him at the table not on the carpet chasing him with a bowl and spoon! we went out for dinner and she wouldnt let him have an icecream cone with the other kids so he threw a spastic then she cracked it again.
the next morning she took him to maccas for "birthday breakfast" and took my dd...and said to her "your mum is still fat after having the baby- after i had DN i lost all my fat"
before they came up my bro asked me to have a bbq for dn b'day. so i invited all my friends to a great big park with sun shades and a fence all around. i went out at 8am to buy the meat.during the week i got all the party food, a bob cake and a pinata and i packed the car got 4 kids ready all while she sat and waited....
we got to the park and she ran after dn yelling at him not to do this or that while we got everything ready and dp started up the bbq. i picked up dn and took him to see my friends (who had never met him but know all about him from me. they have a boy days apart in age.) and SIL started yelling at me not to "just take her son"! i introduced everyone while she was ranting what the hell was i doing hes her child ( i walked about 5 steps away from her!)....
about 20 min after we got there my friend tripped up cement path and landed on her knees. she dislocated both. i had to call an ambo. everyone gathered round to help. i took my friends 2 kids away to play when the ambos took their mum while my dp and bro took her car to her dp.i. we decided to stay for dn to play and have his b'day. SIL put him in his pram and left the park! when my bro and dp got back she packed her car and they left.
that night i took my friends two kids home and we had dinner and waited for dn to eat. he played with his new toys and SIL went to feed him while he was playing in the lounge on the carpet. so i told her we dont eat on the carpet and could she please feed him at the table. she was MAD! told bro to pack up his toys and take him downstairs to feed him her way!
so we cut his cake. and i asked SIL if she wanted to sit with him for the pics while he blew out the candles and she said "no hes already had a cake with my friends- he doesnt even need that cake"
i told her she was very rude (first time ever someone in my family has said it to her face in 10 years!)
she stormed off. later i told bro id go talk to her.
she said i should not have taken her son from his play i should have asked her first. i said i was sorry for hurting her feelings when i took her son to meet the people who had come just for his party! she went on to tell me- i was rude for not being home when they got here. i made her feel unwelcome. i should not have done a party for him- hes her son. i was rude to tell a visitor not to feed their son on carpet. i am uneducated, ignoratnt and have no manners. i dont keep my children well and i should have organised the "fall over" a lot better than i did and then she wouldnt have had to wait in that bloody park for her husband- i just took it all. but when she told me i was nothing to her son i told her what i thought of her in no uncertain terms...and im sure my neighbours all heard me.
se told my bro to pack the car- they had already packed before i went to talk to her. they drove off and wouldnt even let the kids kiss dn goodbye...so my parents are in shock, my dp is mad at me for yelling at her infront of family and my kids are crying for their cousin.
anyway the baptism went well.

AND I would have blown up way before you did. I hope your kids are ok now and not too upset.
Eli looked so cute in his dress and the cake looked great! Glad that was a success.
I'll be back later to do more personals guys!
have a lovely day!

Blubber I have been to Broken Hill once... was a scary drive when the kangaroos decided to come out of hiding!
Does any one have bub sleeping in a beanie? I was a little worried to do this.
I wondered this as well. Even when she wears a beany during the day it ends up over her eyes! And the way she moves her head around in her sleep i reckon it would either annoy her or end up coming off anyway!

Kay - What an eventful weekend to say the least! What a shame that your SIL spoilt everything with her moods. I have a friend who has a SIL like that, she complains about everything and no one can do anything right by her.
The photos are lovely, BTW
Re waking up - We have our central heating thermostat set to 16'c over night and I've noticed the vents have come on a few times. R doesn't seem to wake due to being cold, but I have noticed he will cry out a bit and sometimes he self settles and other times he wants a dummy. He's pretty good though :fingerscrossed:
We didn't give R any farex last night afterall as he had his 4 mth needles today and I didn't want to run the risk of having his tummy upset on top of the needles too. So I will wait a bit longer for solids. He fed 200mls at 7pm last night, had a bath and another 250mls at 9pm and then went to bed so it all worked out ok in the end.
His needles went ok, he has this thing now where he cries if a stranger says hello to him up close. This happened today with the nurse so he was already crying by the time the needles went in (he had 3). I took the pram and by the time he was back in it he had already stopped crying. I took him for a little walk after in the fresh air and he was fine. He's now sleeping in his swing, so I will keep an eye on him this arvo.
Roopee - Please check your email when you can, as I was wondering if you wanted anymore nappies?
Rightio- this will probably be looooong!
Leashie- massive :hugs: to you. I hope things get better for you soon. Hows that beautiful bubba of yours going?
Blubber- i would be a bit worried about putting a beanie on for long sleeps. I think i would be more concerned about the beanie sliding down over the babies face and smothering them? Maybe if you try to roll a towel up in a snake lie fashion and shaping it around the top of their head- might trap the heat a bit better? One thing i do, and i think My-lot does it too is istead of laying bubby on the sheets- i lay a polar fleece rug on top of the sheet so bubs is sleeping on that. Worth a try.
squiggles- the banana is high in potassium which can cause constipation so maybe if you try some pears instead? Pears are usually as good as prunes when it comes to releasing a "blockage". I remember the first time i tried this with DD1- well.....lets just say there was a massive explosion and i was washing for hours after lol.
Hels- sorry to here he put it on a your friends house. They were probably wondering if they could send they're baby back after that LOL. Oh and the kids get better and better at manipulating situations and their environment as they get older. Sorry- that wasn't much help was it.
Seriously...they all do it and its no reflection on your abilities-although it feels like you possibly are the worst mother in the world at the time. Kids sure are funny little creatures when they're overtired aren't they:rolleyes:
superfrog- i think studies have shown that some babies can dream from birth and before. I know diff. studdies=diff results but i have witnessed some doozy's from my kids as babies. Crying, sobbing, and giggling in their sleep.
eskimomumma- how aree you going? Pm me if you need to chat hun..you seem pretty down. Or you could email me if you like...you would have my addy now hehehehehehehehe.
Ren- where are you? How is everything going with you guys?
us- well everything is going well for us- no complaints..well i could complain but others are having WAY bigger issues than me so i wont-i'd only be having a whinge anyway lol.
routines- here's Cody's.
8am- bottle
10am-sleep.
11am-wakes.
11.30am-bottle
12.30 solids.
1pm bed.
5pm- wakes and bottle
6pm-solids.
7pm-bath
8pm bottle and bed.
This one works really well for us!

Can be pretty severe, particularly on dusk and at dawn.

Roopee: the polar fleece blanket is a great idea, will try it. Would love to have central heating!! Broken Hill is renowned for it's heat but the next three months are also very cold. I Am using flanny sheets but even they get a chill.

Was thinking the same so sending hello's and hope all is well.

How much is Cody drinking, i notice it is only 4 bottles but is also having solids.
I guess my biggest dilema and i'm sure some if you had it this way was that Elly loves her sleep. Today so far
7.00- bottle
8.40 - Sleep
11.15 - bottle/play
1.00 - bed unwrapped, pretty well self settled with a little encouragement.
I thoguht that maybe by not wrapping during the day (ok she is awake 1.55) she will not sleep as long and we will not be trying to get more feeds into her. But....will she just get to tired.
Will return..
Squiggles - This diarrhoea that you mentioned Connor had concerns me a little. In medical terms, a black tarry stool is called "malaena".. it indicates old blood. If it happens again, maybe go see a doctor to get checked out. However, having said that... black poo can also be a result of iron supplementation... maybe the Nan formula has a higher level of iron than s26?? It's so hard for me to comment on this without actually seeing it for myself... and I'm very aware that just by typing this, I could be freaking you out for absolutely no reason and that's not my intention.
I'm *so* hanging for Season 5 of Scrubs... can't wait for it !!
Mon - Hope Liam is behaving better for you today. Re:dreams... K has been having (what looks like) little nightmares since he was born. He'll be asleep then his breathing will get very fast and shallow, the eyelids will start flickering (telltale signs of REM sleep) and then for no reason, he'll scream for about 5 seconds and then stop.
I think he also has happy dreams too... just lastnight he was asleep in his cot and I just happened to be in the room when I looked over at him and all of a sudden he had this huge grin on his face whilst still asleep... so cute :)
For whoever mentioned the beanie in bed issue. I've always read that babies should NOT wear hats to bed because it can cause them to overheat which could ultimately increase their risk of SIDS.
my_lot - You've gotta love the dysfunctional family !! *LOL* I think every family is destined to have at least one nutter amongst the sane.
Hels - Glad to hear Reece's needles went well. :fingerscrossed: you have a good night tonight.
Me - I worked again lastnight and for some reason I was REALLY missing Kaelan. Thankfully I took my laptop to work lastnight so I was able to bore all my work colleagues with photos and videos of my beautiful boy... Yes, I've become one of THOSE parents !! My poor work friends must thank their lucky stars that I don't work full-time now !! :D
Whilst I've been asleep today (got home from work at 8:30am, got up at 1pm), DF put K in the Jolly Jumper (JJ) and again and he loved it. It was actually DF's work that bought us the JJ as a present when K was born... so DF has taken a photo of him in it today and will be putting it up (and a note of thanks) at work for everyone to see.
And just because I can, I've put a small video clip online of K in the JJ here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_xUIuVvuUo
i just wanted to remind everyone to "suck it up"
( pelvic floor!)
and that i have uploaded the rest of the pics so ive put them in the baptism area-

He has had diarrhoea again today but it wasn't black. It was dark green. What does everyone think, should I take him to the doctor?
Love the vid too!!

Dark green sounds much better and not like blood at all. But if it comes out BLACK and OILY/TAR- like... then definately take him to the docs.
Just see how his next couple of bowel actions go... if they continue to lighten, then I wouldn't be too worried.

Penny - Loved that vid of Kaelan in his JJ, looks like he is dancing. You could even put some music to it (or maybe it does has some, my speakers were off)
I haven't been game enough to put R in his JJ yet, his head is still a bit too wobbly.
I went out again this arvo (to the post office and shops) and R was really well behaved in his pram today. He even fell asleep by himself whilst I browsed around in Rivers and bought myself some new runners ;) . I have got to stop going to the shops as it's costing me a fortune. My DH has banned me from buying anymore clothes for R. I am now buying 1 or 2 sizes too big for him as he has so many outfits, I give the comment "he will grow into it"
I started another diet today, so tonight it's grilled fish and salad for dinner. I told DH he could do with losing a few kgs aswell (wasn't impressed though lol). I am going to have lean cuisine every second night for dinner so I have stocked up on some of those. I really want to have a few kilos off by the end of this month :fingerscrossed:
Ok so i may still be the only person doing this but... DP wants me to stop feeding Cassidy to sleep at night. The thing is, it is working for us. I dont know any other way to get her to sleep LOL. I have tried a few things but feeding her to sleep is the best way to keep her sleeping for a longer period if that makes sense.
Any suggestions?
If you want to stop feeding to sleep you have to replace the sleep cues with something different. Jack's bedtime routine is bath (5.30-6pm) Feed (6-6.30) Bed, wrapped and Book (6.30-7.00) It took him a week or two to get into the hang of it but he doesn't fight me anymore...just watches us read to him and then nodds off when the lights are out. Sometimes I have to go in once to replace his dummy but after that he's usually out for 8-10 hours. It's made the evening much more peaceful for us.
I think any new routine will take a while to work......you might find she fights it for a while but will "get it" after a week or so. HTH
We went to my grans house today and it was harder then i thought as the whole family was there (I have 7 aunts and uncles plus there partners and kids) so i'm having a pretty bad day.
:hugs: :hugs: I hope Tuesday isn't too hard on you or your family. I'm thinking of you Leashie.
Lauren - did DH give you some time off over the weekend?
Yes, thanks for asking...he never ended up going to the gym. He must have realised he would be in a lot of trouble if he did. Sunday morning I fed Jack and DH dressed him and took him to the supermarket to do the shopping..after that he took Jack for a drive so he would have a sleep. When they got back I'd had over 2 hours sleep....Heaven!
Mon, how is Liam today? Jack does the same thing leading up to me getting my period. I hope it's not the case for you.
US - I had Mother's Group today and we did baby masssage....Jack really loved it and he was very relaxed afterwards so I think I'll be trying it again. He slept much better during the day today, two sleeps were over an hour.....but last night was horrid. He was up at 1,4,6,7.30  I'm so tired tonight. I think he's waking because he's getting out of his wrap so this weekend we are going to start wrapping one arm in, one arm out to see if he can graduate to a sleeping bag.
DH is going to help out with settling him too. I think as soon as Jack sees me he want's to feed even though he may not be that hungry.....last night I was feeding him and he was falling asleep so I don't think he's that hungry. Anyway I'm rambling a bit now.....I need to sleep!
HELLO to everyone else  Have a great night lovely ladies!
thanks for the advice lauren, thought that id been forgotten in there...
i will give it a go and see what happens...

No worries....I hope it might help a bit. How's Cassi's cold going?
yeah shes getting better, still a bit chesty and grizzly from it but slowly getting better. Hopefully after a good nights sleep she will be better again.
Kay - OMG!!! She sounds like an absolute nutter!!! You held your patience so much longer than l would have ... then again l probably would have kept it all inside rather than exploding... and been angry for months -- your way is much much better!!!

Lauren l hope Jack settles a bit better this time...
Juzzy - sometimes Coen falls asleep on the breast l don't see it as a big problem... but most of the time we do bath, massage, stories / sing along bed...
Good luck all - sorry really tired just skimmed the latest posts...
:hugs: to leashie...
blubber- Cody is drinking 200mls per bottle so 800mls a day if that makes sens. I could probably try to fit more into her but i would just be force feeding her and her weight gain is good and steady, she's reaching all her milestones so basically she is doing well on that much.
I dont take any notice of what the tin says or the MCHN- unless bubba is clearly not thriving i would just go with what your doing.
On the sleep issue- the other girls are gunna hate me now...but she loves her sleep too....she sleeps between 1pm and 5pm and then is back in bed at 8pm for 12 hrs after which i have to wake her. I only wake her so i can get the school run done-otherwise i wouldnt get out the door.:hugs:

Mon, how is Liam today? Jack does the same thing leading up to me getting my period. I hope it's not the case for you.
Today was great, although he didn't sleep much. This evening has been a doozy. He has been screaming uncontrollably... a scream I've never heard before. We decided to give him a bath, and as soon as he was in he turned back into a happy baby again! Lots of kicks, splashes and smiles. Started screaming again not long after we took him out, and only stopped when I started feeding him.
He's in bed asleep now, so hopefully he will sleep through. He must be sooooo tired. I'm tired!
Oh, and no period in sight. Haven't had one for over a year now... could definitely get used to this! I've probably just jinxed myself now.
Have read everyone's posts but really didn't take anything in. I think I'm frazzled and tired. Will try and pay more attention in class tomorrow.

Juzzy - You have raised thoughts in my mind about feeding to sleep. We give R a feed right before bed (at around 9pm) and he has a cuddle aftwerwards and then goes to bed. Sometimes he is sleepy and other times he is wide awake, but he always seems to settle once in his cot. I'm not sure if this is considered feeding to sleep and is it something that's not recommended then? It works for us so I'm going to keep doing it. We like having him inbetween us in bed with the TV on for his last feed :D
Mon - I hear ya about the screaming. I wonder if Liam is going through another growth spurt/brain development? That is what I was told when R behaved that way. Trouble is, he has screamed since he was 3 weeks old
I'm off to bed for an early night, I've had trouble getting off to sleep this week. So tonight I am going to try and con DH into giving me a back massage first as this makes me sleepy.

Obviously Reece is going to be very intelligent... if screaming is liked to brain development. :D
HTH
:hugs: :hugs: I hope Tuesday isn't too hard on you or your family. I'm thinking of you Leashie.
The whole 5.30-6.30 feed, bath. book etc is a great way to have your bub. I wish Elly was like that every night. Mia was and somehow we are channeling those notions to Elly.
Although what i have found due to having 2 darlings is that it is twice as frantic, but twice as fun. My god i thought accommadating one at first was hard but you get used to it. Two becomes a juggling act and for extras well your plans for what you want to do at night must just go out the window. I hope that doesn't sound sellf praising but i guess having more than one just breeds a whole different story.
I so remember when we had Mia that trying to adapt and adjust was huge. I tried to predict what it would be like with two and it is so different. Perhaps having a realitvely cruisy 3 year old assists the change.
KAY: this is a fasinating weekend you have just had. You are commended for what you try to achieve and also for putting the ***** back in her box. (hope i didn't offend) I am currently in the middle of two fueding SIL's and a MIL who refuse to bring the siuation up with me. Perfect family syndrome that has her head floatng in the clouds.

Well from my understanding, feeding to sleep is when they fall asleep feeding on the breast or bottle. Now Cassidy doesnt do this every night. Some nights she will fall asleep without finishing a bottle. Where as other nights, she will finish the bottle and have a cuddle for 10-20 minutes until she falls asleep and then just after she has dozed off i will put her in the cot.
From wht i have been told, and i could be wrong, i could be breeding a bad habit by doing this. But to be honest, it does seem to work for us.
At the moment, she will have a bath at 930 and then a bottle at 10 and go to sleep after that.
It is working for us at the moment and i am really not fond of changing the routine right now. I will keep doing it until i get a chance to speak to someone like the CHN and see what they say, i will then consider it further.

If it is any help Mia (dd1) was almost always asleep when she went to bed and she is the best sleeper. We panicked about breeding a bad sleeper but she has always gone to be really well. Never gets ot of bed, more often than not ask to go to bed, still ha a day time sleep.
I think if you maintain a happy night time ritual they will progress. Hope that reassures you.
She loves the fact that after a bath (well a shower becasue we don't have a bath) that we have some milk, read a book, go to the loo, brush our teeth and go to bed.

Hi everyone,
I'm making a concerted effort to try and keep up with the posts this months. So far so good but this thread moves so quickly.
well i had some weekend!
 Definately the understatement of the month My_Lot. What a horrible weekend! Good on you for standing up to her. BTW how's your friend? So pleased the Eli's baptism went perfectly. The photos are wonderful and the gown and cake were amazing - very talented ladies.
Re:dreams... K has been having (what looks like) little nightmares since he was born. He'll be asleep then his breathing will get very fast and shallow, the eyelids will start flickering (telltale signs of REM sleep) and then for no reason, he'll scream for about 5 seconds and then stop.
I think he also has happy dreams too... just lastnight he was asleep in his cot and I just happened to be in the room when I looked over at him and all of a sudden he had this huge grin on his face whilst still asleep... so cute
M has done the exact same thing from birth - he's only woken from one once. He really screamed and it took him ages to recognise me and settle down. Makes you wonder what they could have nightmares about. Really upset me when I asked the ECHC nurse about nightmares and she looked at me as if there was something wrong with him because they say only toddlers get nightmares. I feel awful about his nightmares but I love watching him when he's having a happy dream.
I'm eagerly taking in everyones experiences with getting into a routine, as we still haven't anything sorted out so are over all the place with feeding and still very little sleep.
Sorry if I'm asking a question that may have been covered in a previous month but has everyone migrated from the basinett to the cot yet? Did you have any problems with the transition? I'm yet to do so as M is a real squiggler and ends up in all sort of strange positons in the basinett so I'm worried about him ending up underneath the covers. I've also been looking at airwrap for around the cot - does anyone used it?
The baby expo looked great - I didn't get around the whole thing as DP wanted to go home after just an hour, grrrr - a good reason to not take them. Good news is that I think I might finally end up with a change table soon - find out tomorrow how long it takes to get in Yah! :smiliedance: I would have laughed last year if you'd said I'd be so excited by a table to change nappies :D
Hope everyone is having a wonderful evening :hugs:

Liam has woken up this morning with a very chesty cough. Guess all his crying lately wasn't teething after all.
I don't know what to do to help him feel better. What has everyone else done for sick bubbas? Help!
Cats&Kids - yeah we moved Coen to the cot at about 6 weeks cos he would wiggle his way up in the basinette and wake up with a start when his head touched the end... we began introducing the cot during the day, and then moved him to it at night also and had no problems what so ever... IF you keep the blankets short (and tight) on the cot you shouldn't have any problems - or at least we don't
... we also have Coen in a sleeping bag now (not wrapped) - but we introduced that after he was used to the cot....
Mon - l hope LIam has a better day today... l was exhausted last night - and angry with DH when he got home late - cos l had made up my mind l only had to make it to 5.45 and then when he didn't get home till 6.30 l just about collapsed with relief... a quick break and a very relaxing bath, and early to bed and l feel a bit better... but :fingerscrossed: Coen has a good day today...
Off to pick up the aquarium this morning...

It's hard to see them sick.
Panadol is good for assisting some pain etc but beware that it can consitpate them. If it is sounding a little chesty i always like to check with the doctor first incase it is an infection. In saying that it more often than not is viral. I never liked giving antibiotics at an early age but if it heals them it is a good thing.
Hope he feels better soon.

Cats&Kids - Same as harleyq... moved Ashleigh into her cot about 5 or 6 weeks ago as she too was kicking her way to the top of her bassinett and looking rather squished in the mornings. I was also sick of rocking her (a very bad habit we started when she was a newborn) and the only way I could start learning to settle her other ways was to bite the bullet and put the bassinett away! And I was very surprised at how easy transition was. Was going to start her off in the cot just during the day, but she slept so well for her day sleep I just ended up putting her in there that night!
Superfrog - Poor Liam. If he is chesty you could try making your bathroom nice and steamy and sit in there with him... might help the congestion, so maybe before bedtime would be a good idea.
Well Ashleigh fooled me into thinking she wasn't going to do her waking thing again after sleeping thro on Sunday night. Ooooh how wrong I was. Last night was just like having a newborn again!! She was up once or twice every hour from 10:30 last night! OMG! I tried EVERYTHING!!! She wouldn't even sleep in my bed! If it isn't teeth, maybe she is coming down with something like Liam :(
Poor babies.
Mon - Cassidy has been sick since the weekend, i gave her panadol to help her sleep. Id try just to let him sleep as much as possible.
If it gets worse take him to the doctor
Mon: Forgot to say we also bought a vapouriser and that certainly relieved Elly.
Alternatively sit in the bathroom, fill the basin up with steaming water and vicks.

Thanks for the advice guys. Will try the steam/vicks/panadol combo tonight and hopefully he will settle better. He is supposed to have his immunisation on Thursday. If he isn't much better by then I might have to postpone them.
I have a medical appointment for myself today, and my MIL has kindly offered to come over and look after Liam for a while so I don't have to drag him around in the cold today. Very kind of her.
And on a good note, I fit into my jeans again! :smiliedance: (admittedly I only just fit, but damnit I'm wearing them today!)

mon- you could try 'eukey bear rub' its baby vix. also a saline flush up his nose? ive read the other posts and would like to add my 2 cents worth - please check with your DR before doing the steam.
it can make their chest 'wet'. i know that sounds odd...but
i have had experience with every sniffle from a cold to RSV, croup, asthma, pneumonia and bronchiolitis i have spent so much time in kids ward for problems with my kids lungs (it was like second home when dd was recovering from pneumococcal and dd2 was born premmie) and ive heard it many, many times from peads in hospi NOT to use a steamer/vapourisor - i was and on this advice i threw out the vaporiser.
that said, i remember one time i had to call an ambo for dd when her lips went blue while she had croup. they used a nebuliser with saline for 30 minutes through a mask - this was after other treatment. (but makes you think- it seems the same thing)
anyway, im just thinking you should check with your DR about how that will go with a babies lungs.....
hope everyone is SUCKING IT UP while posting! LOL

We only moved R to his cot about a month ago and only because he kept waking up crying because his head was at the top of the basinette!
We put the basinette inside the cot first for a few nights to get him used to the new surroundings. I also use an anti roll thing which keeps him in place and I suppose offers him some security too. I'm going to keep using it until he gets more active. Also using sleeping bags here.
What is airwrap? I have never heard of it but I'm guessing it's to keep the cold out? I have pinned R's doona to one side of the cot (on the outside) to keep the light out but I will have to take it down when he gets more mobile.
Nothing much happening here today, might pop out for a while later.
Mon - Congrats on the jeans fitting :smiliedance: Day 2 of my diet here and I'm already starving
I've also decided I want a new look hair-do. Might see if I can get an appt for late night thursday, don't want to take R as I'd like a bit of "me time" to relax and be pampered :p

Excellent advice. Will see how it goes today and grab some euky bear rub for tonight. At the moment his nose seems clear (besides from the normal amount of boogers), so it is just the chesty cough. Will take him to the doc if things don't improve soon.

Very interesting to hear the different opinions about steam/vapourisers.
Why does the medical profession choose to lead us in so many directions.
Now i don't know wether to keep the vapouriser going or not. My Dr. suggested it but when you hear the opposite you tend to go with the opinion that does not recomend.
When you talk lungs it is vital.
I do use euckybear rub.

Hi
I'm trying to type this with Liam on my lap.....he keeps playing with my hand as I'm typing! He' s also squirming and just pushed the keyboard away.........cute.
Sandy - you got a good deal on the Aquarium. Mine seems okay but the music seems slow. How's yours? PS I've made your chocolate fudge slice a few times and it's a winner!
I'm doing nothing today......a bit of housework and just chilling......last night was horrid. Liam woke at 3am so I changed his nappy then he went off to sleep....woke again an hour later and he was hungry so I had to feed him which I don't normally do in the middle of the night as he sleeps through normally.......so I'm tired and grumpy today :(
I was thinking of doing the footprint thing for Liam but using paint and putting it on a canvas. Which paint can I use......normal artist acrylic?? Thanks.

Cats&kids - we transferred to the cot 4 weeks ago. I did it because we went away for 3 nights and she slept in the portacot with no problems. Thought it would make perfect sense to then come home and change over to her cot.... ...... she had other ideas. It took us 4 nights of persistance to get her to sleep in it and then about 2 weeks of her waking up more often over night. The only reason we persisted was because we had hired the bassinet and had to return it. We ended up putting her in a sleeping bag as well as wrapping her arms (outside the sleeping bag). Thankfully she now sleeps from 830pm until anywhere between 5am and 830am :smiliedance: .
Hi ladies,
I'm sorry I've been MIA but I've had a few pc problems and couldn't log on. They seem to be fixed now.
I will try and catch up but if I can't please forgive me.
I hope that all the sick bubs are getting better and that all of the mums are doing okay.
Superfrog, how is Liam? I burn eucalyptus, lemon and geranium when we're sick and it helps to keep the airways clear. Also a vaporisor in his room at night is okay to use too.
I will pop in again later.
Hi Ladies
It's boring tuesday here.....I still haven't had a shower. I gave Jack a dream feed last night at 9.30pm but he still woke at 3am....Do you have to do it for a few nights to see if it will work? I felt a bit mean waking him...he was so sleepy!
Not much else to say....I have Jack's check up at MCHN tomorrow.
Oh other BIG news. DH and I are going out on our own for the first time in two weeks. My mum is babysitting Jack so we can go to the Guns and Roses concert - YES I am a bogan! I can't wait actually...

Feeding to sleep is when they fall asleep at the breast or bottle and don't wake when you take them off.......
'Experts' say it's a problem as babies will associate feeding with sleeping and will never be able to fall asleep in their own.
I say if it works for you and your happy to do it then there's no problem.
I will occasionally feed Jack to sleep when he's really overtired and won't settle.

Jo - glad the hedgehog is working out for you!!! Sounds like Liam might be joining Coen & Mon's Liam in the growth spurt???
Vaporisor / Vicks - just be careful everyone there does seem to be lots of conflicting advice... oh and l have been advised not to use any essential oils in the vaporisor (including eycalyptus) at this age... (and you all know l am a bit essential oil's fan)... also advised not to use Vicks, but l am talking the regular vicks l didn't even know there was a children's version, will have to check that one out...

Why does the medical profession choose to lead us in so many directions?
 You have hit the nail on the head with that comment. It has been this way for me ever since the start when I got contradicting information from the midwives in hospital. Sometimes it's hard to know what to do for the best, especially for a 1st time mum. Thank goodness for bubhub! I think most of the sensible and relevant advice comes from this forum.
I've been wanting to say this for ages lol
Lauren - The concert sounds great and even better to get a night out by yourselves (although you will miss Jack heaps)
R has been a bit grizzly since his needles yesterday, I gave him some panadol last night before bed. He really didn't like it and tried to spit it out. He can be so fiesty sometimes! The last 2 days I have been waking him at 7am for his 1st feed (to fit all his feeds in during the day and have an earlier bedtime). I have decided this doesn't suit as it screws up his routine. He won't take his naps when he normally does, gets more over-tired and then falls asleep when feeding. Tomorrow I will let him wake up when he wants to and start the day from there. Still, it was worth a try I suppose.
I'm really nervous about going to my Mother's Group meet tomorrow arvo, it's at one of the girl's houses. If R doesn't get his sleep he will be feral which is no fun for anyone within a 10 mile radius. I suppose I could take his pram and hope he will sleep in that. Gawd, isn't it awful trying to fit in a social life around the baby's routine and feeling so stressed about it :(

It can be hard but it slowly gets better. Just bite the bullet and you'll be fine.

I think basically the best advice is for any mum is that you do what you feel comfortable with and what suits both yourself and the baby. So much conflicting advice for all areas! Just remember if you are concerned go see a Doc.
Hels - dont worry too much about the mothers group, I was worried about the same thing and found that each week it someones child goes feral and often more than one. What you do find is that all the other mums understand more than anyone else as they all know it could be them at any stage. Hope it goes well for you :fingerscrossed:

Jack will have his last feed at 6pm and we'll put him to bed before we leave. Not sure how he would settle for anyone else.......Jack hates the bottle and I've had enough of expressing so I think it will be boobie only until I wean

I'm depressed. Went and saw gyno today about my cyst and he said that my only options are to surgically remove it under general anaesthetic or leave it there. :gloomy:
He said it's probably not related to the birth, and that it has probably spontaneously popped up. He also said that in his 14 years of specialising in gynaecology he has never seen anything like it. Yeah, that's the way to make me feel better about it.
Recovery wise, he said it would be the same as the episiotomy... 6 weeks, salt baths, blah blah blah.
I've made an appointment for the surgery for the end of June but I think I might get a second opinion before then.

Oh dear, that's not good
It's exactly the same situation that I was in a few months ago. Do you have private health insurance?
The only advice I can offer you is to definitely get it done. I know the thought of it all is so horrible but trust me, it's so worth it in the end. I am so much better "down there" after the surgery andt I can even wear tampons again :D
I just took R for a brisk walk this arvo, I rugged him up first. Gotta try and shift these kilos somehow
my internet access has been a bit off lately i have read all the posts but have forgotten who wrote what - i will answer generally...
re:sick bubs - lily is a bit sick and if it the same symptoms i have it is tired, sore throat and some plegm. she was also a bit hot so some panadol, babyvics, saline spray and lots of cuddles from mum. she is sleeping heaps today so hopefully that will help also. took her to the dr who said her throat looked sore. poor bubba
re:routines - ours has adjusted to awake after 7 - asleep before 7. with dream feed. and 3 sleeps a day. if one sleep is 80 mins or longer than i am happy. i try to keep her feeds at least 3 hours apart but this dosent always work. she has 4-5 feeds a day plus the dream feed
although since she has been sick she is sleeping 17hrs a day. i always wanted a baby who slept but not cause she was ill.
see you at chat tonight. we need 13 or more to break last weeks record.
oh mon - have a super hug of your very own:hugs:
Mon - oh bugger - thats not good news for you... sounds like a good idea to get a second opinion though l guess!:hugs:
Coen was a little angel today, :fingerscrossed: he stays that way cos darrin won't be home until 8.30 tonight...
He slept on the way to Epping to pick up the aquarium (Jo l haven't got any batteries yet, will try it tomorrow and let you know); we came home, he allowed me to have some lunch in peace, then we met up with our walking group, he had a feed and then he slept for most of the walk, at the end he wanted out of the pram, but that was fair enough, he'd been in there for over an hour... so he joined me (in the Ergo) and was content to take in all the sites... oh l love it when he is a good boy - it helps me to forget those times when he isn't (like yesterday evening when l felt like l was going insane - then DH rang to say he would be late).
Hels - Easier said then done (l know) - but just relax, if you go and Reece is unsettled and your not feeling comfortable you can always leave... Would you believe the one mothers group when l wanted Coen awake and alert and he slept all the way through it this week - we had babymaestros come in - we played music and danced - he would have loved it - instead l was left dancing and singing to a non-existent baby...:o
Hi Ladies
It's boring tuesday here.....I still haven't had a shower. I gave Jack a dream feed last night at 9.30pm but he still woke at 3am....Do you have to do it for a few nights to see if it will work? I felt a bit mean waking him...he was so sleepy!
Not much else to say....I have Jack's check up at MCHN tomorrow.
.
None of my boys ever ate/eat well when I wake them so I let them find their own routine. That seems to work better for us. Good luck at the MCHN tommorrow can't wait to hear how he has gone.
I agree, do whatever gets you through the day. It's not going to make that much of a difference and if it does then if and when it becomes a problem then deal with it then. In the meantime do what works.
How did you know that you had a cyst? What signs did you have? Who is your gyno?

Evenin' all...
Can't believe how many posts there are. Just want to say thanks to my_lot who keeps reminding me to suck it up. I really do do it when you say - it's great to have a reminder!
Good luck to all those with sick bubbies - i hope they feel better soon.
hels - i feel your mother's group pain - charlie is always in a foul mood when we go so everyone thinks he's a nightmare baby, but he's usually so good at home! I hope reece behaved for you.
cats&kid - charlie was moved into the bassinet ages ago because he's a little fat porker. He didn't seem to notice the difference to be honest, so I hope Matthew takes to it ok as well.
lauren - i too am over expressing. i haven't bothered for about 3 weeks now, just can't be arsed.
feeding to sleep - yay! i love it. I only do it in the evening (sometimes) and when we're out and charlie's turned into a monster. I don't care what the experts say, it WORKS and that's all that counts :)
superfrog - good luck with the surgery - sounds like a nightmare for you :hugs:
routine - charlie has been feeding every 2 hours during the day for the last week (growth spurt?). he usually has about 4 40 min sleeps during the day, but is going 10 - 12 hours at night :yelclap: :yelclap:
Do any of the babies have teeth yet? Charlie is constantly biting and dribbling at the moment, and his gums are getting so hard! It's hurting!

That's great Sarah! No teeth here but Jack is exactly the same.......He's been biting my nipple lately  When I put a finger in his mouth he bites it instead of sucking it. He also dribbles constanly. I'm waiting for the little buggers to pop up any minute
MON - OH NO!! I'd get a second opinion too. Has it been painful for you? :hugs:
Sandy - Yay to Coen! It's lovely when they give us a break sometimes. Maybe he could have a chat with Jack???
My MCHN appointment has been moved to Thursday so nothing planned for tomorrow...I want to go shopping but I need to stop spending!

How did you know that you had a cyst? What signs did you have? Who is your gyno?
I could feel a hard lump ages ago, but thought it was part of the stitches healing. Once all the swelling went down I realised that it was in a different spot. It is a small hard lump, about the size of a pea. I thought it would go down by itself but it didn't. Doesn't hurt except during sex (although we've only tried that once so far!).
My GP said it looked like a cyst and referred me to Dr How (Melbourne). My Ob was Dr Sahhar, and although I wasn't 100% happy with him I have made an appointment with him for a second opinion.
Hope to make it to the live chat if Liam settles. He was rubbing his ear a lot, so I think he had an earache. Have him some panadol before and he seems much happier.

Thank you Harleyq, Scarlett, Hels*Bels, ImogenGrace & NoMoreScuba for your advice. M has been sleeping in the bassinet in the cot because of the cat cover so that will hopefully make the transition easier. I have grobags but haven't used them yet as he startles so I'll try and use a light wrap as you suggested - do you just use the lighter version of bag eg. 1 instead of 2.5?
I must bite the bullet and move him but saying this my cold has come back with avengence today and Matty is suffering not only with that but the side effects of the rotarix too - poor baby he has been very unsettled today but slept from 7:10 last night until 8:30 this morning with 4 feeds in between :smiliedance: this is an improvement for us. Is it a dreamfeed when they don't wake up and just feed? I can really relate to all of you with sick babies - it's very hard work :hugs: to you all. Ziggy29, Matthew & I have the same symptoms - he hasn't been able to talk today, just gargle a bit. Haven't heard of the babyvics before how is it working on Lily? Hope you and Lily are feeling better soon.
Hels*Bels: Does the anti-roll device stop them moving up and down as well? The airwrap is like a bumper but of breather mesh fabric. It's supposed to stop them getting their arms and legs through the rails and doesn't allow them get any leverage to climb. I thought it might stop him pulling the cat cover in on himself and it may also give him the feeling of still being enclosed like in the bassinet.
Superfrog: :hugs: You poor thing - I'm pleased it doesn't hurt all the time. Hope Liam is feeling better.
Harleyq: "we had babymaestros come in - we played music and danced - he would have loved it - instead l was left dancing and singing to a non-existent baby"
Love the mental-picture of you dancing and singing to a sleeping baby :) haven't heard of babymaestros before is a regular thing?
NoMoreScuba & ImogenGrace: would love to catch up in the near future with you both and Sassi & Shelby. Would you like to try and arrange something for the end of the month?
Would love to join the chat one Tuesday or Thursday if I may.
Hope all are having a good night xx & oo
morning everyone-
cats i was just reading your post- i have an air wrap too, they are fantastic!
i just came in to remind everyone to "suck it up"!
ill be back later, going to get a few things for my friend (the one that fell) 3 of her 5 kids have birthdays in the next few days! (i thought i had the timing thing having eli the day after dds birthday!)
Ok I am so over Elly waking contantly anywhere from 2am onwards. Not wet, not hungry. She just won't stay asleep during the night. I think we have had one night where we havn't had to get up to her after her last feed, about 10.00ish.
We have to get her up for that feed as more often than not it is only her fourth for the day. Either way I am waking her during the day or night..mm..tired, grumpy.
Up at 6.30am, which in itself should not be too bad but when the day starts then and i have no chance of going back to sleep i am not a pleasant attitude. this morning she then only drank 80mls!!
Thought maybe some solids would work but if she isn't drinking all her bottle does she need it?
Sorry a little me this morning.
Have a good day everyone.
Sorry I left the chat last night...my computer was playing up.
Good thing I did though...Jack was an absolute terror! He woke at 12 (I'd only been asleep for an hour) - I tried to re-settle him which didn't work I sent DH in and it worked for a bit but he was screaming again at 1 so I fed him, he then woke at 4.45, 7.15 and then 8.15. I can't believe he is hungry.....how many growth spurts can one baby have?? :banghead: He was feeding every three hours yesterday too. He has also started pinching me on the boob when he feeds  He grabs a huge handful! I'm seeing the MCHN tomorrow so will see what she says....I'll be interested in his weight gain. I don't mind getting up once a night but twice is killing me!!!!!
Hope everyone has a great day :)

Hi all, so sorry but I need to vent! Let me know if you think I'm being unreasonable about my DH (alternate meaning!)
I've had a bu**er of a night - didn't sleep because of this wretched cold, and had an unsettled baby the 4 times I got up to him. I took a night tablet at 6am and asked DP to give him a bottle and look after him from 8:30 (he works from home today) which he did, but in the bedroom so I could hear all the chatter, complaining and whinging (both of them) then I have to move because he needs to change him on the bed, by this times it's 9:30 and he says I have to take him now because he needs sleep so he can do some work. I said "you've got to be joking - I'm sick I need some sleep" but he just put an upset M on me and fell back into bed. The only other times he's taken him to let me get some sleep (only twice mind you in 15 weeks) he kept bringing him into the bedroom to put him in the bassinet where he'd wake up and cry and then the other time he sat in the lounge room and tried to make M drink a bottle - for 2 hours so I could hear all the protesting and crying! Grrrrrrrrr!
Sorry ladies I'm furious at the moment and just needed to vent as I don't want to give the vibes to M and spoil his day also as he's trying to cope with the cold too. I need an smilie which has steam coming out the ears!
My_lot: pleased to hear the airwrap is good - I'll be getting one then I think.
Blubber: I know what you're going through - my routine went out the window when they said I had to wake M for his feed as he should have at least 5 if not 6 feeds a day. Since then he's only been drinking 50 - 90 ml per feed (before it was 150-200) and I'm so worried he is not gaining enough weight. I also don't know whether i should be thinking solids but he's shown no interest. I hope you have a better day with Elly today.
Must go put my tired sick baby to bed.
:hugs: all
Huggies are on sale this week - $29.95 at Coles for a box of 90 crawlers
Cats&Kid - Your not being unreasonable at all. Have a few of these :hugs: :hugs: Hope you and Mathew are feeling better soon

Oh man I am 40 posts behind due to being Mia for one day LOL.
Just a quicky. Turns out the sleep probs I have been having with Ashleigh is coz she has just come down with her first ever cold, the poor thing. She is quite "snotty" so have bought Little Fess Nose Drops with an Aspirator to suck all the snot out - lovely eh! So much for me thinking she was teething (altho she probably still is).
I'll try an catch up later. Little Miss A has just woken after a very short sleep. Poor thing... how can you suck a dummy when ur nose is blocked?

Hello lovely ladies
Im finally back and we have a new thread.....
I have to catch up when i have a little more time...
Quickly my boys are good. Billy is still waking anywhere from 3am -6am for a bottle but normally goes back to sleep. He is getting easier to work out know.
DH well thats a huge story and i'll give you guys a quick version when i jump back on later. ( He's still an a#@e though)
Glad to be back and hope everyone is doing well and i promise to try and catch up on what ive missed.:fingerscrossed:
Morning girls!
CATS- No your not being unreasonable at all!!!!!!!!!! :shame: to your Dh!
blubber- heres some sleepy vibes to you:wizard:to pass on to Elly. Why not try disregarding what the MCHN said and go back to what you were doing first. Sounds like you were doing the right thing in the first place. All bubbies are different hun:hugs:
Here's some pics of the kids.

Enjoy- have a great day.
Cats&Kids - mini maestros came to just one session of our mothers group, but apparently you can take them to the sessions once they are 6 months +, l am thinking of taking Coen as the other babies seemed to have a ball - l believe they have them all over...:hugs: DH's (what ever meaning you wish) can be so insensitive sometimes... l hope Matthew goes down for a long sleep today and you are able to have some rest time too... doesn't DP know that if you don't get some rest your cold is likely to last twice as long????
Kay - you are such a thoughtful friend, your friend is lucky to have somebody like you in her life...
Scarlett - many of our bubs have had colds, it seems to be the in thing at the moment for these bubs, l hope Ashleigh feels better soon
Lauren - l hope Jack has been better for you this morning (l'm home if you need need a friendly ear of need to get out of the house for awhile) - how did you go at the mchn??? Coen now weight 7.040kg - what a little fatty!!! Olivia came over today and she is just under 5 kg, oh my two kg's really makes a massive difference....
Tanya - your kids are just gorgeous!!!

Thanks Sandy :) He's been really good today...I've discovered he really loves having his cheek stroked until he gets sleepy. Normally I can't get him down for an arvo nap but he's just gone to sleep now and it only took 10 minutes. It will only be for 40 minutes of course but it should get him thru until bedtime. Not sure what's up with his night sleeping. My appointment at the MCHN got moved until tomorrow.
Well Done on Coen being 7kgs :yelclap: He certainly is thriving on your milk
QUESTION about RE-SETTLING.....today after Jack's usual 40 minute nap I was able to re-settle him until I thought he was asleep but about 5-10 minutes later he woke up screaming......this went on everytime he closed his eyes. Anyone know why? I sat with him for over 15 minutes....I was sure he was asleep
sandy- my friends a trooper! she has 3 boys aged 2 (tomorrow) and 3.5 and they have full custody of her DPs 3 boys- so 5 boys under 10. i always feel bloody rotton when i tell her how hard im finding my four....
she ays shes lucky to fall in such a good spot! there was an off duty ambo and Dr at the park. my cousin went with her in the ambo my dp drove her car to her dp (who was at a football game 30 min away- with no car) my bro drove behind dp to pick him up and drive him back to the park and i stayed behind with her two little boys then took them home with us.
and shes even laughed about my SIL saying I should have planned the fall over better!
while i was out today getting last min things i was thinking of a prez for the older boys i txt her my idea- tank and hermit crabs and she said yes! (sucker like i am- itll be just one more thing for her to look after!-LOL)
tanya- WOOO HOOO to you for using photobucket!
ren- glad your back in action!
sorry i issed the live chat. dp got home at 7pm and i had done dinner, bathed the kids, done homework and had two in bed. so i handed him the baby and went to read and fell asleep! i was woken 3 times between then and 5am but it was a good nights sleep.
i am now on strike when it comes to cooking dp dinner. dont know when my strike will end! he came home monday night in an @ss of a mood (we didnt hear him honking (to open the garage) over the baby crying so he had to get out of his car and come in the door! it just got worse and worse so i told him i was going out for a drive- only i sat in ds' room to listen to the way the kds behave (he told my mother they dont behave for him since the babys been born)...
well i heard them. and they were just full on. no wonder he has them all in time out within 5 min of me leaving the house! (time for a family meeting!)
they said they didnt like the dinner he cooked and he said he didnt like the dinners i cook - but he just eats it LOL and that most of the time it tastes like **** and he hates spag bog the most!
OMG i dont know how i didnt choke trying to laugh quietly!
about 20 min after they thought id left dd came into ds' room and i was sprung! i told her to march her toosh into the bathroom and get ready for bed -SINGING ABC's at the top of your voice in time out is not on...she nearly sh!t herself!
then i went into the lounge and took a screaming eli from his rocker seat (dp was sitting by him eating!) and said "if the baby is crying and hes bathed, fed, milked and ready for bed- then hes READY for bed!" - his face was a picture!
so you see, i am on strike! last night i sent dp a txt saying id cooked a nice chicken stirfry and i had made apple crumble too. when he got home we had eaten dinner and cleaned up the kitchen. he asked me if id said id cooked dinner...i said i did and it was really good, thankyou- the kids ate it all and they really enjoyed the apple crumble!
"so what are you making for your dinner, darling?"
Kay - lol, you are amazing!!! and your dp can be an @ss sometimes - l love what you did w the txt! What did he end up eating for dinner? Oh and how is the puppy & Mrs Mangle?

Hi girls,
Well this is my 3rd attempt to post on Bubhub today. All morning Liam was unsettled and I got NO time to myself at all.....except for one nap where I managed to get dressed, brush my teeth etc. Not happy Jan
He is now asleep after being to mother's group so I'm feeling better. Yesterday wasn't much better and I was in tears with frustration.......some days are **** aren't they? :gloomy:
Lauren - Liam has done that before too.......where he keeps waking up crying after I've settled him. I don't know about Jack but with Liam it's usually if he's overtired and difficult to settle.....otherwise it's if his reflux is playing up. It's really frustrating isn't it?
Cats - you are not unreasonable and I know exactly what you mean as my DH has done this to me before too. He's better some days than others but mostly he's helpful.........well weekends are probably when he is the least helpful because he's busy doing 'other' stuff.
Hels - yes it's pretty embarrassing when bub cries through mothers group or when socialising......but we ALL experience this don't worry so your friends should totally understand. It's just so hard sometimes and I often think it's too hard trying to socialise and look after Liam but I persevere anyway and it's usually okay as long as he's not overtired.
My_lot - you are funny! Let us know how long your strike lasts for! Give it a good go I reckon
Has anyone thought about when they will start swimming lessions?

Liam seems to be in a better mood today but the cough is still nasty. Will probably take him to the doc tomorrow.
Hope we can still make it to the meet on Friday.
Hi Jo, it sounds like you had a bad time of it... l hope Liam was off early to bed tonight and will give you a good rest... btw we tried the aquarium tonight, Coen seems to like it - and it works beautifully. On the swimming lessons l keep meaning to enrol Coen for a 6 month start... but l haven't done it yet

Hi Feb friends,
Warning... "whinge post" ...
They say bad luck comes in 3's, well yep I agree. Firstly after a lovely 13 months the dreaded AF has decided to return :banghead: Certainly didn't miss this and was enjoying completely skipping that whole feminine hygiene section in the supermarket. Secondly, found out today that my mum has been made redundant from her job and she is quite upset... and she was made redundant from her previous job too - so she thinks its her fault even though its not and she will probably find it hard to get a new job (even though we are in the recruitment business) she has limited skills and her age is against her. And thirdly my FIL has been taken to hospital with an infection in his blood that has effected his heart, so he is pretty unwell and MIL is all freaked (as you would be) - so all in all a few cr@p things going on...
So sorry that I missed chat lastnight, I just went to bed early - so tired lately.
Mon - I wanted to say that I had to have some "tissue" removed after about 7 weeks after Connors birth - and it was well worth it, I felt so much better. I had a lot of pain, but that was mostly from the horrible labour but it is an area that heals quite well (according to my Ob). If you are concerned then I would suggest a second opinion is a good idea but otherwise - the salt baths and ice packs etc will help if you have it done. Fingers crossed for you.
Ren - Glad you are back. Hope you are Ok
Hels - - Connor screamed and screamed last week at mothers group I ended up in tears in the car. Skipped it this week cos I am a chicken, so I know how you feel
Jo - How can they be so cute and such Sh*theads at the same time huh. Hope Liam calms down soon.
Kay - I love the antics in your household!! You should write a TV sitcom or something!
Lauren - Another phase? Connor has been particularly clingy of late. I have to sit with him and hold his hand until he gets to sleep and then when I leave the room and check through the door he has his eyes open again - little Bugger.
Im sure I've missed a few people - sorry my mind is elsewhere tonight. Off to scoff some choccy and have a glass of wine (this is becoming my nightly ritual) and browse ebay (yeah like I need more baby stuff )

me again - I have to admit I have not been following all this talk of MCN's but now that it is pretty wet here and our rainwater tanks are full I don't have to worry about us running out of water everytime I put the washing machine going... so... I was thinking about having a go with some MCN's. Can someone fill me in on what I will need to start with - do I need covers and all that stuff? and can I buy good ones online? Im not really bothered by what they cost as long as they are good, esp for night time.
I prob should have done some more reading on all this stuff - but I thought there has been so much talk of late around here that I would ask here first.
Thanks!!! :)
Kay- your Dp can really be an *** sometimes hey! I'm guessing that dinner at your house for the next month will be spag bol????

:hugs: to you and your family. I hope your FIL is OK. Your poor mum too..
On the MCNs, I do use them and I have a mixture of 'types'. It depends on what sort of thing you want really. I find the all in ones are a good start. Yes you can buy good ones on-line. I love Berry Plush and Bum Genius. I think I'll let Kay give you the low down as she is the Queen of clothies on this board
Kay woah!! What can I say about your family dramas? I think you're a real star and I reckon you should keep up the cooking dinner strike indefinitely.
Jo :hugs: to you too. I really hope this is just a bad few days and everything settles down. I found the weeks between 3 and 4 months were quite awful and Eloise was very unsettled. she's like a new baby now, LOL, much more her happy and settled self - I'm sure Liam will settle down soon.
Hels I've been known to chicken out of outings as I sometimes feel very stressed at the thought of people rolling their eyes at me as my baby screams, so I know how you feel. When I look back though I can see how much easier things have got and now I feel I can do most things and other people will have to like it or lump it! I still find myself feeling tense at times though..
Welcome back Ren, hope you're well.
Poor you Mon, I hope you manage to get some good advice and work out what to do.
Tanya your kids are proper gorgeous!!
Lauren I'm sooo jealous about you going to G N R!! And for having a night out for that matter - I can't wait to go home in 3 weeks and get Eloise babysat everynight for the entire holiday, LOL!! On the re-settling, when I am succesful with it (v.rarely!) I have found Eloise does the same as you describe with Jack. I don't know why either but I did wonder if it might be wind?? I have noticed she cries/screams in her sleep too.
Cats n Kids Hope you're feeling better and your DH has made ammends.
I'm really sorry if I've missed anything else important, no offence but I haven't been on here for a few days.
On feeding to sleep - I do it too (at night) as it works. However, I did get very worried reading about some children who are fed to sleep and only learn to self settle around 18 months  I think its such a powerful association when you are breastfeeding so I've started to follow some of the principles in The No Cry Sleep Solution - great book if anyone wants to check it out. There are lots of gentle ideas in there which you can implemet without stressing bub or yourself. We've had some progress and now Eloise can be put into her cot awake but sleepy after her last feed at night. That's big progress for us.
We've had a good week so far - very busy, with Eloise demonstrating her new trick of screaming (happily) at every opportunity, including today in the cinema right at a very scary and silent moment in Zodiac. Hilarious! We are off for the 4 month injections tomorrow so hopefully madam will be OK afterwards. We seem to be back to 2 -3 night wakings after my horror nights last week, thank goodness!! Looking forward to the meet on Friday.
KAy: not only does your family keep you entertained and on your toes it is the way you tell us Feb Girls that has me laughing. Today it has been a real light in an otherwise sh*t day.
Darling Elly has had a shocker. I have racked my braing with every possible theory always coming back to constipation. Unusual as she is quiet regular but hasn't poohed for two days. I would hate to be over looking an ear infection but have experinced one of them with Mia and the symptoms were not the same.
She has been up when she should be asleep, feeding when you wouldn't expect her too, unsettled like she never is.
SO at 8.00pm the poor darling squeezed out a pooh that resembeled green playdoh!! Nothing followed but i expect it to at...say...2 in the morning,
SHe is asleep in daddy's arms ATM and who knows what tonight will bring.
Of course after all the talk of late it could just be a growth spurt.

I don't have time for personals tonight so I'll try to cover some of the topics.
Swimming lessons - I'd like to take Reece but I hate the thought of having to wear bathers again :( Do you think a big baggy T shirt over the top is acceptable?
MCN's - I like the Green Kids pocket nappies, but I have only tried peapods and cute tooshies. I prefer the ones that don't need a separate cover on top or it starts getting too bulky.
Well, today I took the plunge and went to my mother's group meet. I worked myself into a tizz before hand and was laying in bed this morning stressing over how R was going to behave. Would you believe it, he was an absolute
He played nicely for an hour or so, didn't scream when someone spoke to him (infact he smiled) and he watched New Macdonalds Farm on TV (which he loves). Then I put him in his pram for a sleep and within minutes he was fast asleep with little fuss. He slept for an hour and a half and only woke up when I put him in the car to go home.
All that worry for nothing and I'm so glad that I made the effort to go after all. Lets hope he behaves at Friday's meet aswell :fingerscrossed:
Today is day 3 of my diet and I resisted all the chocolates and biscuits at the meet. I'm not feeling as hungry today so maybe I am getting used to it.
Have a good night everyone.
AGGHHH No sleep again!!! Jack woke every 3 hours after midnight for a feed.......I feel like a walking zombie. He's been doing this since the weekend.
Will catch up later after my MCHN appointment

Oh I can so relate! It's just awful isn't it? I've decided there's no point tackling it until mid July when we get back from the UK as she's gonna be all over the place for a while anyway. Is Jack feeding well during the day? I think Eloise seems to prefer to take big feeds at night when its nice and quiet and there's no distractions. Could this be happening to Jack? Hope you get some decent advice at your MCHN appointment.
cats @ kid
- i call a dream feed when you feed bub without waking them and they just suck in their sleep. it is generally done in the late evening so that mum can string some extra sleep hours together. takes the babes a while to get used to it and then it can work a treat (well it did for us anyway
- vic baby balsam - i am sure it helps and it makes me feel like i am doing something for her.
did i read correctly - are you still feeding 4 times a night. omg you poor thing.
regarding chn - i am jaded from bad experiences so i just smile and nod and do whatever i was going to do anyway.
attn brisbane mummies i just saw on the front page of bubhub a promotion for one free adult ticket to the babies expo later in the year ($14 value) all you have to do is print it out. here is the link
http://www.bubhub.com.au/pbcexpovoucherbrisbane.htm
lmenz - lily used to do this with resettling. my theory is they dont move into deep sleep for nearly 20 mins so when they wake up a little they are annoyed at them selves for going to sleep again but actually too sleepy to really wake up?
not too many personals as i have had no net access for 2 days (wonderful rain must have got in my antenna). lily and me sick. i feel miserable - stuck in the house with we wahing all over the place. relflux playing up with the cold so i am also covered in vomit. at least since she has been sick she has a new appreciation for her bed and is there at least 17 hours a day over the last 4 days!
regarding no cry sleep solution - lily has a comforter and finds it fab - i wore it down my top initally and sometimes when she is awake in her cot i see her snyggling her face into it. i know it is not exactly following the sids rule but you can breath through it as it is quite light.
Saw the MCHN today. Jack weighs 7.3kgs (naked) and is 61.5cm long. I asked about his frequent feeding and she couldn't really say why...maybe his recent cold, maybe teeth, she suggested trying a 10pm feed again to get him past midnight. Will give it a go I think...... Good news is I was doubting my milk supply but he's gained 900g in 4 weeks so it's definately not that.
Hannah - Lately he's been feeding 3 hourly during the day...yesterday he had 7 feeds!!! We had gone down to 5 so it could be another growth spurt....my nipples are killing me!! Hope the injections aren't too rough on Eloise
Jo - I'd like to start swimming lessons around 6 months. Luckily there is a heated pool at Windy Hill so we will probably go there. I hope your week improves...Is it Liam's refulx playing up? :hugs:
Hels I agree with you..I'll be wearing a t-shirt over my bathers too
Jen - Gosh your having a run of bad luck....hang in there! How cute that Connor want's his hand held.....Jack has become so high maintenance it's so exhausting!
Mon - How's Liam today? Any better?
Blubber - I sympethise with you re - lack of sleep.....and I only have one child!! Hope you can get some much needed zzzzzzzz
lmenz - lily used to do this with resettling. my theory is they dont move into deep sleep for nearly 20 mins so when they wake up a little they are annoyed at them selves for going to sleep again but actually too sleepy to really wake up?
How did you overcome it? Did you just keep persisting?
Jack's obviously tired but just can't nod off completely.
Hope you and Lily are feeling better soon :hugs:
It seems these sleeping issues are australia wide. What a horror of a day and night we had. Elly woke at 8.30pm and never does that so we feed her and it took until 11.00 for her to go back to sleep. Then a feed at 3.00 and an hour or more to go back to sleep. Up at 7.00 then didn't want her bottle...grrrr.
Her days are still so all over the place. One day she is just getting up and at the same time the next day she is due for a sleep.
Thank god mum is here and for the first time since Elly was born i went back to bed when she did.
Swimming: don't fear girls everyone i know that does swimming does the t-shirt thing too.
Here's hoping our darlings turn around from their current situations. MInd you it gets forgotten pretty quick when the smiles and laughs come out. Even if it is when they are meant to be asleep.....like now!!!! Gotta go
everybody sucking it up?
we should have a suck-up-athon in live chat???
what a way to start a post!!
i got Eli a "leap frog -little touch leap pad" today.
we were given a lot of money and gift cards at his baptism so we decided to bank the cash and use the store cards to get the leap unit and some books for it.
this is the baby 6mth + leap pad.
i think it will be a lot of fun for him and will get good use out of it. we got a leap pad for dd2 about 4 years ago and all three kids use it as we have books for dif age and reading levels...
i got a cute book for it thats about fish and has two fish hand puppets.
we will try it out tonight when we read before bed.

Sorry ladies but i think its going to take me awhile to catch up where everyone and their bubs are at.:detective:
Sleeping- Billy has been waking for an extra feed of a night time too. He has 30 min naps during the day and sometimes i can get one sleep to go atleast 1hr/1.5hrs. He has a bath around 7ish and normally would go down from 8 till 4am but not know.
You ladies are probably going think this is strange but the only way i can calm Billy down for his sleeps is if i stick the vaccum in his room
Ive just brought a couple of 'white noises' CD's and he loves em.
DH- well he's back but living out in our games room with 2 of his mates :banghead: I dont get spoken too and he comes inside everynight to spend about 20 mins with the kids before they go to bed.
Im at a loss on what to do about this situation and i have come to the conclusion i can definatley cope without him and his s#@t
Anyhoo im going to try to make it to live chat tonight so look forward in chatting to you then.

Took Liam to the doctor this morning and he has bronchiolitis. Poor thing. His cough is really bad... sounds like he smokes a pack a day!
I can tell that he is just so miserable. Not interested in playing, and doesn't have a lot of energy to even cry much. Still breastfeeding, and he gets exhausted after just one side, so I'm feeding him more often. Will also start on some cooled boiled water tonight too as I don't want him to become dehydrated.
Will definitely be keeping a close eye on him overnight.
Oh Mon :hugs: Poor Liam....gosh I hope he gets better soon. It's awful when they're sick isn't it?
:hugs: to all that need it, it sounds like there is a few of you - sick babies, dh partners (not darling in case you didn't guess), family troubles...
I hope it all gets easier on you soon...
Lauren - what a weight gain!!! It looks like both our boys put on a kilo in this last month and both have hit the 7kg+ mark.... l was talking to a friend of mine who has a 9 month old and he is 7kg!!! My MIL asked if the nurse told me l was over feeding him -- l said No!!, in fact the nurse said l am doing a wonderful job and to keep it up - so suck sh!t!!! well l didn't say the last bit, but l thought it...

Mon - Poor Liam he really has got it bad. Hope he is on the mend soon. Ashleigh started coughing last night too but it doesn't sound chesty thankfully, more like she has a tickle. First sign of smoker's cough and I'll be off to the quack too.
Well some good news tho... after a really shocking two days of hardly any sleep she must have been exhausted and we got a full night's sleep last night. *phew*
Kay - I like this strike idea. I quite often need to storm out of the house before steam comes out of my ears LOL. And yep I agree Spag Bol for the next month sounds great!

**More whinging from me**
And to top off a cr@ppy week, I have a stye in my eye so I can't wear my contact lenses for a few days. When I was pregnant my eyesight progressively got worse. My optometrist said that sometimes it goes back to normal a few weeks after you've had your baby, but mine didn't. She also said that I shouldn't have been driving as I was considered legally blind with my old prescription!
Anyway, I got a new prescription for some contact lenses but didn't get new glasses as I was hoping my eyesight would go back to "normal". I completely forgot about it so now I have to wear my old glasses that aren't strong enough... and I can't drive anywhere until I finish my course of eye drops next week and can wear my contacts again. So I'm stuck at home with a sick baby and no transport. :gloomy: My MIL drove us to the doctor today, and she's offered to drop me at the meet venue tomorrow as well. She is very thoughtful.
I have more complaints involving stupid bank managers, stupid specialists, stupid cyst and stupid work stuff... will have to restrain myself though or this will turn into the "Mon has a rant" thread.
Still not sure if we'll make it to the meet tomorrow. Liam isn't contagious anymore, so that's not an issue, but I'll wait and see how tonight goes and make sure he is up to a trip out.
Hope everyone is having a better week than I am. Big hugs to sick bubs, tired Mummas, inconsiderate DHs and wacky families. :hugs:
My MIL asked if the nurse told me l was over feeding him -- l said No!!, in fact the nurse said l am doing a wonderful job and to keep it up - so suck sh!t!!! well l didn't say the last bit, but l thought it...
  My MIL said to me "your not feeding him everytime he cries are you??" Personally I think they are jealous.

I'm going to grab some tucker and will then try to venture into chat for a while.
No sleep problems here, had a good night and R had a couple of good sleeps today. We still have the unsettled evenings though. He won't sleep after his 6.30pm bottle, even though he is tired. Makes it hard to do things eg like live chat! especially as DH has to use the other computer for work.
On the upside, DH's evening workload will decrease soon as he now has an updated PDA system and will be able to do alot of his computer work during the day. This means he will be able to help me more with R during the evenings :smiliedance:
I went for a brisk walk this arvo for an hour, it was bloody cold and I ended up with ear ache from it. Next time I am wearing ear plugs and a beanie lol

Hi there. I won't be doing live chat as I'm about to have a shower and chill out on the couch.......maybe next time :)
Hels - don't you hate cold ears when out walking  !!!
Lauren & Sandy - you made me laugh what you said about your MIL's being jealous & stuff. Can't they just say something positive for a change?!!! Congrats on your bubs weight gains. I will be interested to see what Liam weighs as he's been so unsettled this week and drinking more than usual. I do think his reflux has been playing up a bit as we took him off the Zantac for 5 days and by the end of it he will worse I'm sure. He's back on it twice a day now so I hope he improves with that. It's been so tiring and I'm physically & mentally drained...
Mumslilspunks - sounds like you have come to the conclusion that your partner isn't doing the right thing & you can survive without him. It must be a hard situation to be in with him living in the same house with his mates too
:hugs: to you.
Mon - I hope your Liam gets better soon. Poor thing having bronchialitis.
:hugs: Mon - what rotten luck your having.
I'm also have a bit of rotten luck, l think my polycystic ovaries have started up again, l have had pain in my left ovaries for a few days now, l think that was what was also causing my sore eyes and blurred vision yesterday... and to top it off l feel a heaviness... down there... l'm scared things aren't how they should be...
See you melbourne girls shortly - l could do with some cheery news, so l hope somebody is having a good time of it!!!
hi everyone...why is it so quiet today? do the melbs and brissy mummas both have meet ups?

Great to see everyone at the meet today...I felt a bit vague though as I'm just so tired.
Hels - Thanks for the formula..will give it a go over the weekend and see how he goes
Juz - Great to see you and Cassi...I'm in love with her chubby cheeks.
Sandy - I hope your feeling better soon....Good thing your DH is home next week. When are you seeing your doctor?

Hi guys,
was good to catch up today, feel a lot better for it actually. Am glad that i got out of the house.
Took me almost 2 hours to get home, the traffic was ridiculous out my way. I now have splitter of a headache and would really like to go to bed.
Cassi started crying on the way home, i dont think she liked all the stopping and starting the poor kid. Shes better now so while DP plays xbox tonight we are going to curl up in bed nd watch tv.
Night guys, hope u all have a good weekend!

I got home at 5.30pm (1hr 15mins) and DH has taught me how to drive the freeway in peak traffic by using the exit and entry lanes :shame: It certainly sped things up though. I got so tired on the way home that I found my eyelids closing. I had to open the windows and I put R's nursery rhymnes CD on full blast. R then fell asleep so that was a good thing lol.
Dh was home early tonight and he doesn't have to do any computer work :yelclap: So he's already fed R, emptied the dishwasher and is currently sterilising the bottles. We are all tired too and having an early night tonight.
Thanks for the catch up today (Melb girls), it's a shame that some of you were tired or feeling under the weather. Shame that Jo and Mon couldn't make it too, we missed you both. We also forgot to take photos again doh!!

Then again he hasnt cooked ina few years. Not since i had m/s with mary :o

Im fine. I accepted it. Heres a some info:
Blighted OvumL
Chances are you didn’t even know you were pregnant or had just found out you were expecting when you received the shattering news that there is no visible developing embryo on the ultrasound. You are probably feeling sad and confused. As you take time to understand what this means, also take time to grieve as you would for any loss. And remember you are not alone.
What is a blighted ovum?
A blighted ovum (also known as “anembryonic pregnancy”) happens when a fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall, but the embryo does not develop. Cells develop to form the pregnancy sac, but not the embryo itself. A blighted ovum usually occurs within the first trimester before a woman knows she is pregnant. A high level of chromosome abnormalities usually causes a woman’s body to naturally miscarry.
How do I know if I am having or have had a blighted ovum?
A blighted ovum can occur very early in pregnancy, before most women even know that they are pregnant. You may experience signs of pregnancy such as a missed or late menstrual period and even a positive pregnancy test. It is possible that you may have minor abdominal cramps, minor vaginal spotting or bleeding. As with a normal period, your body may flush the uterine lining, but your period may be a little heavier than usual.
Many women assume their pregnancies are on track because their hCG levels are increasing. The placenta can continue to grow and support itself without a baby for a short time, and pregnancy hormones can continue to rise, which would lead a woman to believe she is still pregnant. A diagnosis is usually not made until an ultrasound test shows either an empty womb or an empty birth sac.
Your purchase supports the APA
What causes a blighted ovum?
A blighted ovum is the cause of about 50% of first trimester miscarriages and is usually the result of chromosomal problems. A woman’s body recognizes abnormal chromosomes in a fetus and naturally does not try to continue the pregnancy because the fetus will not develop into a normal, healthy baby. This can be caused by abnormal cell division, or poor quality sperm or egg.
Should I have a D&C or wait for a natural miscarriage?
This is a decision only you can make for yourself. Most doctors do not recommend a D&C for an early pregnancy loss. It is believed that a woman’s body is capable of passing tissue on its own and there is no need for an invasive surgical procedure with a risk of complications. A D&C would, however, be beneficial if you were planning on having a pathologist examine the tissues to determine a reason for the miscarriage. Some women feel a D&C procedure helps with closure, mentally and physically.
How can a blighted ovum be prevented?
Unfortunately, in most cases a blighted ovum cannot be prevented. Some couples will seek out genetic testing if multiple early pregnancy loss occurs. A blighted ovum is often a one time occurrence, and rarely will a woman experience more than one. Most doctors recommend couples wait at least 1-3 regular menstrual cycles before trying to conceive again after any type of miscarriage.
:hugs: :hugs: :hugs: to you heather. Sorry to hear the bad news... im always around for a chat if u need to.
Well my night has been fun. Not. Today was the first time in about 3 weeks that Cassidy as missed her afternoon nap (uaually naps from around 3-630ish). Oh boy didnt she let me know about it. She screamed the house down for about 2 hours and was totally inconsolable to the point that she was having trouble breathing because she was so upset. I ended up running a bath and putting her in it, that was the only way she calmed down. She has finally gone to bed, well about 20 mins ago :fingerscrossed: she stays there.
I swear thats the last time i miss her afternoon nap.
Anyway, bed time for me.

Hi All,
Firstly, Heather :hugs: Im so sorry for you. :hugs:
We have had an average few days. Connor has been unbearable - screaming fits, we actually had to give him a couple of doses of panadol which I was certain I wanted to hold off on. He was screaming and it was a really different scream - like he sounded in pain. I think his teeth are coming through as he has been chomping on his fist and dribbling constantly and I can see the white in his gum. Poor bubba, its horrible to see him in pain.
And my FIL is still in hospital and will be in there for a while. Things are pretty bad and I am so angry with him. The F*cking idiot is in the cardiac care unit of the hospital and still going outside every 10 mins for a cigarette. He's not in there for anything smoking related (so they think) but he has major problems with his heart and you would think he might actually think about stopping at least while he is in hospital. MIL came over for dinner with us (she is a wreck) and I told her off for buying him a packet of Ciggies for him. I seriously feel like I am the only normal one in this family sometimes!! MIL said to me she couldn't say no to him even though she knows its bad, she didn't want to upset him while hes really sick :banghead: We are going to see him tomorrow and I am going to tell him off. I have done it once before, I took his cigarettes away from him and we had a massive argument - but this time Im serious and it seems I am the only one in the family with the guts to do it. I'm going to buy him some nicorette inhalers and take his ciggies away. I can't believe the doctors don't try and stop him. Makes me so mad - where is the social responsibility??!!!
Anyway, on a much much much happier note I would like to announce that my cousin gave birth to a little girl at 5:15am this morning. Lucy Elizabeth, 50 cms 8lbs 6oz. Natural birth. Can't wait to see them but also remember how annoyed I was at getting hoards of visitors in the hospital - So Im going to wait a week or so before dropping in.
Have a great weekend everyone if I Don't get back on for a few days its due to all this family **** going on...
Well guys WHAT A NIGHT!!!!! MAJOR FLOODING at my house.
Our yard is trashed and our shed/garage has water in it waist deep-meaning that about $50,000 worth of stuff is ruined.
We sat in the toy room for hours watching the kids things and Peter's tools all floating in the back yard, a fridge and freezer and everything in it, and the dog swimming in the rain lol.
The kids are devastated as their bikes, electric scooters and cars, are all wrecked too.
The force of the water has knocked half of the fence over and gone into my laundry so my washing machine (dryr is on the wall thank god) is probably broken too.
The water has come up to our back steps, so lapping at the back door but none has made it in yet.
We are on standby tonight for evacuation..i've been busy getting all the photo's and kids art and a few special toys and clothes together and have them all packed at the front door ready to go if needed.
The road at the end of our street (Bridges rd for the locals) is completly blocked and we went down to look- its literally a river. There are cars floating down the main road!!!!!!
Im really glad that i picked Cooper up from school erly nd didnt let him go to OOsh as there are some poor poor little kiddies still there as all roads in are closed. Poor little mites . They must be so scared.
Looks like im in for a long night..i cant sleep..too worried but on the bright side..i doubt i will be going to work tomorrow as the whole shopping centre is under water!! Our shop was closed last night and hasnt been opened since so that i guess is the bright side.
Thank god we have insurance.

I ended up running a bath and putting her in it, that was the only way she calmed down. She has finally gone to bed, well about 20 mins ago :fingerscrossed: she stays there.
I swear thats the last time i miss her afternoon nap.
I'm sorry Cassidy is giving you a hard time tonight.... It's awful when you have to deal with an unsettled baby. if it's any consolation... it was really good seeing you again today !!
I can't believe the doctors don't try and stop him. Makes me so mad - where is the social responsibility??!!!
Unfortunately, it is not a doctors job to force someone to quit smoking (though they would normally suggest it I'm sure)... and realistically, if your FIL is not willing to do it himself, then it probably ain't gonna happen anyway.... take it from a long term (ex)smoker. You have to WANT to do it to be successful. Obviously for his health (particularly cardiac health), it would be an excellent thing.. all you can do is encourage him to stop I guess :)
I don't know about SA, but here in Vic... our hospitals offer patients nicotine patches to try to encourage cessation of smoking while they are an inpatient (at least they do in the hospitals I've worked in). Maybe you could ask the staff next time you go into the hospital about the possibility of getting patches for your FIL
Well guys WHAT A NIGHT!!!!! MAJOR FLOODING at my house....... Thank god we have insurance.
Hope your insurance company don't have some sort of escape clause in their policy that gets them out of paying you !! They're tricky buggers these insurance people !!
I sincerely hope things don't get too much worse for you and that you and your family remain safe (and dry). :fingerscrossed: that you don't have to evacuate.
(oh, and I *love* that you can still find two minutes to post here on Bubhub despite the fact your house is flooding *LOL* I would *SO* do that too !!! :D ).
Oh yeah on the posting. Well im all pretty much "ready" to go if needed. However the water has receeded a litle and not quite so bad atm. The guy from the SES was saying that its supposed to get worse before it gets better..
Heres a pic, right before it got really bad.....the swing set, well the water ended up over the seats, that climbing thing was literally floating in the yard and if you look in the shed, there is a silver door in the top let hand corner..the water ended up being 5 inches from the bottom of that.
http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w80/roo_pee/DSCN2270.jpg
Holy cr@p !!
Who would think that we've been caught up in the most savage of droughts these past couple of years. I guess the expression is true... when it rains, it pours.
I was just reading about the flooding in Newcastle in the paper
http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,21875725-5005961,00.html
:fingerscrossed: the water continues to recede for you !!
Geez Tanya, that sounds awful. Hope everyone is okay and that things don't get any worse. :hugs:
But it is good to see that you can still post in the middle of a crisis!
My thoughts exactly. It is also great that the kids possesions and thoughts are your first priority. Funny how what ever happens the kids comes first JUst instinct i guess. Had seen it all on the news. Hope you get out of it ok.
[quote=icugal;1561761]I went home via Greensborough Plaza to meet up with DF and he slept most of the way there. Upon leaving G'Borough Plaza to go home though... different story. He screamed for the entire trip back to Craigieburn !!

From a long temr smokers perspective what was it exactly that got you over the line to stop. I know i have to do it, i want to do it, my bank account says what's wrong with you!!
Blubber - I tried countless times to stop smoking... I even managed to stop for a whole year and then I had a rather bad day and started again.
The motivation to stop was a combination of feeling like sh!t all time and knowing that I was wasting so much money on cigarettes. What actually helped me stop was nicotine patches and sheer will power.
I think the first three days are the worst... particularly when having a coffee or after a meal... but once you can get used to NOT smoking, it suddenly becomes easier (having said that, I still crave cigarettes every now and then).
Just a word of warning... if you ever do try the nicotine patches, get the 16 hour ones that come off at night. I was using the 24 hour patches and they were giving me really vivid, really shocking nightmares... I got to the point where I was too afraid to go to sleep.
I've now been a non-smoker for two years and I am so glad that I succeeded. I don't know if I've saved any money by not smoking though... both DF and I replaced our smoking habit with a compulsive shopping habit... so we're probably even more broke now !! :D
Good luck if you try.
tanya- i knew it was bad in newie but sh!t your pics are before it got worse??!! your backyard is a pool!
my families houses on the coast are trashed too. trees down everywhere- thankgawd for underground electricity lines!
reminds me of the cyclone i got stuck in in townsville! i flew up there with dd2 to look after my cousins kids for 10 days while they went to thailand on their honeymoon..i had dd who was 13 months and their twins 17 months and their 5 year old and 4 dogs when it hit...
we flooded here about 2 years ago. there were cars swimming into the round-a-bouts...we walked down the road a bit to look at the football oval and saw a lady swimming from her bogged car!
heather- im so sorry for your loss. a blighted ovum is a mean mind game- it makes you feel pregnant in every way. and if youve already had kids and know all those feelings....its just not fair that your body can trick you like that. my cousin had two sacs (twins?) when it happened to her. she lost a triplets pregnancy after that but then went on to have healthy twins... :fingerscrossed: you go on to have a healthy sticky pregnancy that end with another beautiful babe in your arms.
we are off to buy some hermit crabs now and take the prez over to the boys....then dp is finishing work early today so we can go to the wintersun together...
the kids are tired- they got home at 11 last night!
maybe theyll all have a snooze at the same time and ill get one too
oh who am i kidding!
does anyone use stockings under their bubs jeans/pants at this time of year?
i have a pink and 2 blue if anyone wants them..
they are brand new bonds size 0-1 i think. i was given them while i was preg and then got some at the baby show....
Kay- pick me pick me- let me know your account details and i'll deposit some money into your account!!! My girls wear them allthe time.
Yep...the yard is trashed and all the kids "big toys" swimming. We are not as bad off as some though...went for a drive this morning and there are cars and roofs and parts of houses and fences laying all over the road about 50mtrs from our house so its pretty bad. Ummm the only thing thats a worry now is that is supposed to get worse this afternoon and tonight and as we have been declared a "natural disaster" area no one knows what effect that has on our insurance policies. If we are not covered we are pretty much screwed.
I had some nappies soaking in a bucket so its the dryer all the way here. AND back to sposies for a few days but oh....well.
Hope everyone has a great day today..the rain has just started again here..........
Tanya - OMG :hugs: Hope the water eases off.......How is everything this morning?
Heather - Sorry for your loss darl :hugs:
US - Well Jack went down at 6.30 and woke at 12.30 this time I was able to re-settle him...he then woke at 3.45 for his usual feed. If I can just get him to stop waking at 12ish I'll be a happy woman...maybe if he realises he's not getting boobie he'll stop waking.
I'm still angry with DH after our spat on Thursday night....He's apoligised (via text message mind you :shame: ) but I'm so sick of his rubbish
Anyway on a happier note it's a lovely sunny day in Melbourne...Hope everyone has jolly weekend :D
Sorry i meant to add heather massive hugs from me to you im so sorry hun!:hugs:
tanya- ill just post them to you! they should go in a normal envelope and 50c stamp.
eli has some on now under his jeans but i use the leggings with no bum (babylegs) with his MCNs.
guess what ????
Eli has a TOOTH!!!!!
Wow!!!!A TOOTH!!!!! :smiliedance: Eli! Our first fab feb tooth! OMG Kay thats cool! Maybe he might stop being a mister whingey pants for you. Poor little mite must have been in pain. oh...yay to Eli..how clever. Hows your other ds today? Geting better i hope.
Thanks for that tights ...thats great news. Do you still have my address? Hopefully we wont have floated away by the time they reach us lol.
lmenz- everything is a bt better here this morning..there carnage everywhere though. Cars, trees, house parts, toys everything just stranded and blowing around.
The forecasters and the newsreaders have said to be prepared for similar conditions tonight so we'll see what happens. Cant do a thing about it so we are just watching and waiting.
Forgot to add to my post before... Juzzy, I have got all the paperwork and am going to enrol in the Bachelor of Accounting through Open Universities. I just have to apply for credit for my other study first. Have you decided what you are going to do? I need to do something, Dh says Im "losing my smarts"
Yeah i have been thinking about an accounting course or something similar. Swinburne TAFE does a correspondence course that looks pretty good. Either that or i will go through open uni as well. I guess ive had other stuff going on and havent got to apply as yet. LOL i dont need DP to tell me that i am losing my smarts, i feel like it all the time!!
Tanya Geez, thats some shocking rain you guys have had! Cant believe it! Hopefully things get better soon and there is not much damage.
Am at DPs parents, have been here since 9am this morning, my BMW is finally getting a new engine! YAY! I am going slightly insane but thankfully Cassidy has gone down for a nap. Just hope her 3 yr old cousin stays away from her and doesnt wake her anytime soon, especially after the dramas we had last night.
Geez cant believe that Eli has a tooth, how cool is that Kay.

Heather - big :hugs: to you hon, sorry to hear of your situation.
Tanya - :hugs: to you aswell, I hope it stops raining soon and that everything is covered under the insurance. Let us know how you go?
Kay - Congrats on Eli's tooth :yelclap:
Lauren - Are you going to try the formula tonight? I hope it works out well and let me know how it goes.
Juzz - That's great about the new engine in the beamer, I hope it goes alright for you now. No excuse for not turning up to anymore meets after this lol
Us - I had to get up 3 times in the night to settle R. He then woke at 7am for a feed and slept again until 10.30am and so did we, so we all had a good sleep in.
I went to the hairdressers this arvo by myself, R was asleep when I left but DH said he woke as soon as I went out the door so he only had about a 1 hour sleep. He then slept this arvo when we were in Coles for about 30 mins, so he hasn't really had his normal sleeps today. We are about to go out for dinner so I don't know how he will go, hopefully he will sleep during the meal and not scream because he's over-tired!!
Ohh a tooth :yelclap: How exciting! Well Done Eli! Can't wait to see a photo Kay.....
I suspect that's what's happening with Jackie, when he woke last night I rubbed his gums for a while and he seemed better.
Were off to visit my bestie tomorrow. She's 28 weeks pregnant. I can't wait for her little one to arrive. Were all hoping she has a girl so her baby and Jack can get married!!!
Very quiet on here today..I hope that means were all having fun :)

Hi everyone,
Sorry no personals tonight. Just wanted to let you know that I prob will be having some time off from posting for a little while. We found out what is wrong with FIL today, turns out the infection in his blood is the secondary problem... He has a 12 inch tear in his aorta and the vascular surgeon has classed the tear as severe (Heart disease). His blood pressure is extremely high and they need to get it down or "the worst" might happen. DH and I are going to try to spend as much time with him as we can and let Connor get to know his grandfather while he still can IYKWIM and also look after MIL who is really struggling.
So Im not sure I will have much time to feed my bub hub addiction, but will be thinking of you all and get back as soon as things get better :fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:
Jen
Jen :hugs: Best Wishes to you and your family. Hope to see you back soon

Big hugs for Tanya, Heather and Jen :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:
Liam is still sick. Took him back to the doc today and he said his chest is actually quite clear. So the raspiness in his cough and breathing is excess snot that is running down the back of his nose/throat. Ick!
And I'm sick too. It's hard looking after a sick baby when all you want to do is curl up in bed for the day. DH was sort of helpful, but Liam is in a mummy's-boy stage and will settle much better with me.
Had a bit of a cry today as I was overwhelmed (and feeling sorry for myself), but it didn't make me feel any better... just blocked up my nose even more. I'm just so tired today. Liam woke up every hour coughing last night. Once I popped his dummy back in he was straight asleep again, but it felt like I only just fell asleep and he was coughing again. Also had trouble sleeping thinking that the next time I went in there he might not be breathing. Scary.
As much as I like breast feeding, today is one of those days that I wish I was formula feeding and could just hand Liam over to someone else. Even if I did that, I would still have to express milk, and I so much can't be bothered.
Just trying to wind down before going to bed. Hope tomorrow is better. Sorry for the all-about-me-whinge post.
guess what ????

Eli has a TOOTH!!!!!
Our first Feb bubba with a tooth !! Yay !!
K has had very red cheeks the last few days and has been a bit grumpy... but other than the usual hard spot on his bottom gum, there is no sign of any teeth yet.

I must be a bad ICU nurse (I work in coronary care too... all part of the one Unit). I didn't even realise that the aorta could have a tear without it dissecting (where the aorta splits open)... this is what happened to actor John Ritter. 12 inches is pretty massive too. Are they going to attempt to surgically fix it or do they think that it is beyond repair??
Jen, you and your family are in my thoughts :hugs:

Sounds like you need a super Monica-hug !! :D
It's good to hear that Liam's chest is clearing up.. that's a great sign !! I hope you can get some decent rest and can start improving too. It's awful when you are sick and are trying to look after a young (and also sick) baby. I feel for you Mon... :hugs:
As for me... well, I did nothing today except stress myself stupid over every ache and pain I've been experiencing lately (sometimes it really sucks being a nurse and having knowledge). I haven't quite decided whether I have an abdominal aortic aneurysm, bowel/liver or pancreatic cancer, pelvic instability and prolapse, infection from my caesar... or all of the above :) I think I'm starting to go a little psychotic !! Somebody take me down the back paddock and shoot me please !!!
Other than stressing, DF and I spent the evening watching some Season 5 episodes of Scrubs which we bought on DVD the other day... I *so* love that show !!!! (If anyone else watches it... the scene with "The Todd's" atomic wedgie is perhaps one of the funniest things I have ever seen !!! OMG I laughed so hard, I nearly fell off the couch).
I am so tired right now. I'm only up at this ridiculous hour because I'm trying to stay up as late as I can for the purpose of sleeping in til 12/1pm... I'm working a night shift tomorrow night so sleeping through til early afternoon means I can get through the shift without falling asleep at the end of my patients bed !! DF is on Kaelan-duty tomorrow so that I can sleep.. plus he will also look after K on Monday morning so that I can sleep for a few hours after getting home from work (I get home about 9am).
I just have to mention that as I type this.. I have PartyMAX (Foxtel) on and they are playing the best music right now !! (80's, 90's, 2000+ and current). At the moment though, they have one of Boney M's songs on... I love Boney M !! (most of you youngin's probably don't even know who Boney M are right???? *LOL*).... ooh, now it's '100% Pure Love' - Crystal Waters.... this song totally reminds me of being at Uni... driving around Bendigo in my little red Gemini with the music blasting... ah the memories !!
I'd better stop now before I give you a running commentry of every song that comes on...

Squiggles (Jen) - all the best and I hope your FIL will be okay.
Penny - my hubby and I watch Scrubs too. It's such a funny show......we love it!
Mon - I hope you & Liam feel better soon. I have come down with a cold and feel :gloomy: at the moment. It started last night and we were supposed to be visiting friends today but have decided to stay home. I really hope my Liam doesn't catch it.
I had a very average week last week but I hope things get better this week. Liam was very unsettled as we stopped his Zantac for reflux on doctors advice to see if it made a difference or not. He's now back on it and better.....plus we are trialling a thickened formula too to see if that helps. Hels, it's the same one you gave me to try that time Karicare AR.
Kay - wow Eli has a tooth! Good one Eli!

Squiggles (Jen) - :hugs: to you and your family. Remember we are all your friends on here so please pop in when you feel the need to vent/laugh/whinge/off-load or whatever!!
Mon - I hope you are feeling better soon and that Liam keeps improving so you can get a good night's sleep.
Jo - Have you tried that new product called "First Defence"? It's a nasal spray that attacks the first signs of a cold virus in the back of the throat and stops it from becoming worse. I have bought it and I have used it a few times and I have to say I am very impressed. No bad colds in this house yet :fingerscrossed:
Reece does have a cough though, he's pretty much had it from birth, it seems to be when he has excess saliva or brings up a bit of milk. It's not phlemy but sounds more like a bark. I think it will be the on-set of asthma eventually. I have already mentioned it to the doctor but I will keep and eye on it and if it gets worse I will get a second opinion.
Us - We are staying at home today, doing housework and then spending the arvo out in the yard, pulling out some plants and doing a general tidy up.
Tomorrow we have a photographer coming over in the morning and we will then drive down to Rosebud in the arvo to see the in-laws who are down there for the long weekend.
We slept in today until 11am! R woke for a feed at 8am and then went back to bed. I actually feel quite cr@p because I have probably over-slept. We stayed up quite late last night watching Ocean's Eleven on TV, I love that movie.
Better go and stop :ecomcity: . Hope everyone is having a great long weekend.

Sorry to say but Boney M is in my CD collection as well. "Brown Girl in the Ring...tral la la la!!!
Jen: Hope all goes well with the family.
Tanya: Just amazing what is happening there. Seems you are adjusting and coping with the situation well.
Sickness: aarrrgghhh i am so sick of blowing my nose. I've got it, the girls have got it, my mother who is visiting has got it!! DH has yet too. How does that work?
Thickened Formula: Elly has been on this since about 6 weeks and has had little problems. DOesn't seem to drink has much as what Mia did on standard formula. We are using Karicare AR and cheapest i have found is at Priceline. (One shop we do have here!!)
Teeth: Yeah Eli, Elly has had one major red cheek this morning, can't feel anything though.
Well days and nights are still a little unpredictable here. I'm wandering when she wakes at 5.30-6.00am that when I feed her I should put her stragiht back to bed. Thing is Mia is ready to get up not long after and I don't get any extra sleep!! WOuld really like to stretch her out to 7.00and that would be fine.
Still sleeping well during the day and until the roll over feed she has 4 bottles but only 150mls. Have tried to get her to drink more but everytime we increase the feed to 200 she hardly ever drinks it!! We are trying to have her up at 5.00pmish so that she is getting a bed tiem of around 7.00pm. Perhaps i should change that to 8.30ish and give her the last bottle then ansd see if she sleeps longer! Any clues?:banghead:
Enjoy your day people and lets hope all those who are having difficulties that they subside soon.

Just thought id share this with you all,

Hope it works.
Be bck in a sec for personals.
we will then drive down to Rosebud in the arvo to see the in-laws who are down there for the long weekend.
Ill be in Rosebud tomorrow too, DPs business partner runs the model caravan park there and they are having a "meeting" (read: playing computer games) so i will be in the kitchen cooking and what not.
Went and did a bit of shopping today. Kmart has 30% off kids clothes, could have bought a whole heap of stuff but managed to restrain myself to a few items.... LOL
Hope everyone is doing well, seems quiet here this weekend, everyone has a life except me!!
Ren - that movie was great!!! Good on you!
I've had it today... I'm trying to be really good and give DH his time to study, this afternoon we went over to a friends house for a bbq - whilst l was packing the car DH was looking for the eski and getting his beer... anyway we didn't end up bringing the ergo and l didn't really think it through enough - the bbq was outside with a fire... so first obstacle - sit the pram where the smoke doesn't blow... Coen started to get tired so we tried to put him down - 1 hour later Coen is still screaming, it is too cold to have him out on my lap so l have to leave - l was so p!ssed off with DH - so l left him there (which is what he wanted from the start) - and l have now been trying to put Coen down for 3 1/2 hours... every time l lay him horizontal he screams like l am trying to kill him... he just wants to be in my arms... well l have given up - l was going to call DH and demand he get his butt home - but l just can't be bothered... Coen is in the swing in the lounge room and l am hiding in the study... l can hear him - but l just hope that the swinging motion will put him to sleep - it has worked twice before accidentally :fingerscrossed: that is works for me now... l really should go and turn the tv off, but l am scared if he sees me he will want me to pick him up - and l really have had enough...
he's screaming again - off l go :gloomy:
Oh Sandy :hugs: How is he now?
If it's any consilation last night was probably the worst night I've had so far....I went to bed at 10pm, Jack woke at 12am, 4, 5 , 6 and then after a quick feed again at 7.45. So in total I had about 5 hours sleep but only in two hour lots :banghead:
He's not hungry...I offered him the boob and he just played around with it and smiled at me. I was so frustrated and tired at 6am that I yelled at him...I felt so bad afterwards :crying: Worst bit was my DH heard on the monitor but still stayed in bed
My boobs are killing me...after all Jack's feeding they are exploding again and I feel like I'm getting nipple thrush back
To top it all off we decided to try the sleeping bag tonight as last night everytime he woke up he was trying to get his arms out of his wrap. He took about 15 minutes to settle and has woken twice in 50 minutes...could be a long night. If all else fails I will wrap him again and start another time
I wish I knew why he is waking
Sorry for the vent but I feel a bit better after getting it all out

Ok so I couldn't keep away. DH is on his computer and I thought I would jump on here to take my mind off things. Saw FIL yesterday and today and he is pretty "Lucy in the sky" IYKWIM - they have him on blood pressure meds and valium so he is pretty placid and calm... and great news he hasn't had a cigarette since the diagnosis. Penny, yes it is a dissection - Type A. I just didn't explain it too well. The plan is to get a vascular surgeon from Melbourne over on Monday week and put a stint in - which is a metal tube thingy (??) to try and repair the damage, although he has been told that it is such a severe case it really is taking a chance, we are coming to terms with the fact that it's pretty certain he won't make it - We were told that if it was heart surgery it could have been keyhole surgery and they go in through the groin but Vascular surgery they will need to basically cut from his shoulder right down to his hip. He was told that with a tear this severe he should have been dead within 24 hours of it happening :crying: but he is a lucky bugger... certainly living now on "borrowed time" I am still in shock and it seems almost surreal. DH and I were talking on the way down to the hospital today and I (stupidly) kept going on about how I am so scared of the thought of his operation and I made DH cry - it was awful.
Sorry for the all about me post - need a bit of a vent. Will try to keep reading along with you guys, I know I said I would have a break but Im thinking I just need to distract my thoughts - so i might pop in and out every now and then.
Thanks for all the well wishes too :hugs:
Lauren - Are you going to try the formula tonight? I hope it works out well and let me know how it goes.
Hels, he wouldn't drink it  I didn't want to force him so might try another time with the last lot......he's not rapt in the bottle, just closes his mouth. I bought him a cup yesterday to might try with some water first to see if he can drink from it
Oh Sandy :hugs: How is he now?
If it's any consilation last night was probably the worst night I've had so far....I went to bed at 10pm, Jack woke at 12am, 4, 5 , 6 and then after a quick feed again at 7.45. So in total I had about 5 hours sleep but only in two hour lots :banghead:

Whn he wakes at 4, 5 and 6 is it instinct you are not feeding him and he is just unsettled. Elly is doing the same!!
Are you putting a dummy back? Be interested into what you are doing?

Lauren - That's a shame that Jack wouldn't take the formula. I wonder if it was the bottle that he didn't like or maybe the taste? It is ok to mix EBM in with the formula. Why not half the powder and try 50/50 next time (with EBM)? Or get him used to the bottle first by giving him some EBM from it?
Sandy - Did you manage to get Coen off to sleep? Sorry to hear about your day and the BBQ.
Jen - Good to see you still posting
We have had an unsettled night so far. R needed a feed at 8pm so we bathed him at 7.30pm and then feed and bed. He wouldn't have a bar of it, screamed blue murder until we got him back up. I gave him a cuddle for 30 mins on our bed with the lights down low. Then put him back to bed and he cried again but eventually has gone off to sleep after alot of persuasion! He is not used to an earlier bedtime yet
This also means he only had 4 feeds today but the last 2 were 250mls. I'm not sure when he will wake up for the next one  . To make matters worse, DH is going to sleep in the back bedroom as he keeps farting all night and I'm getting sick of it, keeps me awake and makes me gag! So I have kicked him out. Trouble is, if R wakes it will be me that has to get in and out of bed.

You're not alone. Last night was the worst one we've had so far as well. Liam went to bed around 9.30pm, and from 1am onwards he kept waking up coughing... every 20 minutes. All he needed was his dummy put back in and he fell back to sleep instantly. Actually I think he was almost coughing in his sleep.
DH and I took it in turns to get up. Was thinking about putting him into our bed, but DH is a very loud snorer and I am really sick and coughing as well, so I decided to leave him in his cot where he is used to being.
I tried to have a sleep today but I kept hearing him coughing and couldn't relax. So yet again I am extremely tired, and still sick.
He's been in bed for an hour now but has fed very badly today, so I have decided to wake him up before midnight (if he doesn't wake himself before then) as I don't want him to become dehydrated. He did a massive spew this morning, and he is only taking one boob for each feed, which is very unusual. Have been feeding him more often to compensate. Plus I am sick, so my milk probably isn't as good as usual.
And because of the frequent feeding I have had really painful let downs. I'll probably have heaps of milk tomorrow but I don't really want to express any to store as it will be "sick milk".
Tried giving Liam some water in a bottle yesterday, but he wasn't too impressed by it. Not sure if that's because he is sick and has lost his appetite, if it was the bottle instead of boob, or if it was the taste. He drank about 20 mls eventually, so that was something at least.
Enough about me. Have we heard from Tanya yet? Hope the flooding didn't get any worse.

Gee... it's quiet in here today!
Liam still woke up coughing last night, but not as often as the night before. I think he is starting to get better as he seems to be smiling more. Me on the other hand, I'm getting worse. :crying: DH is back at work tomorrow so I hope I'm feeling much better by then.
mon- we are all fine here now. Nw the clean up begins lol. I hate cleaning at the best of times and now i have to do or its all gunna stink!:banghead:
The flooding didnt get any worse ...thank god.... but the whole place looks like a war zone. Its so amazing to see stranded cars just parked everywhere.
DS1 's scholl is closed until they clean it upand get new fences..maybe back wednesday..hopefully..ut not sure yet.
We went for a drive today to see the ship that has beached itself and OMG its massive. Theres this huge fuel/coal loader just sitting in the sand on the shore. Apparently they disregarded warnings and advice to head 10 nautical miles off shore and thats where they ended up!!
Uuuuuummmmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh. someones in big trouble..
i just caught up on 3 days of messages and i feel so terrible for everyone. it has been a **** of a week for almost everybody.
Big hugs to jo, heather, mon, harleyq, hels, squiggles and lauren. :hugs: Hugs to everyone else to :hugs:
our news - my cough got worse until i got larningitis. lily is completely out of routine and feeding 2hrly and catnapping but i think she is over most of the cold. i am so tired and just want to sleep in one time.
we went away for the weekend and we had the partacott next to the bed. i really liked being able to look over at lily and my dh on the other side. for the first night in ages i slept for 6 hours straight - i think i knew they were both safe for once.
the other good news is i lost one kg! maybe from being sick????

Roopee - That's good that the worst is over and hopefully won't be long until all is back to normal.
:hugs: to all those with sleepless nights and sickness. Hope everyone is feeling better soon.
We had some professional photos taken this morning (at home) and Reece rolled for the very first time :yelclap: He was on his tummy and rolled onto his back (just the once) but it was really good because we were all watching lol.
He was very good during the photo session and we got loads of smiles so I can't wait to see how they came out (we go to the studio on wednesday night).
We then went down to Rosebud as planned and R was really well behaved all arvo. He had a little nap and then played with his toys or was cuddled for the rest of the time. A real contrast to last weekend when we went visiting and all he did was scream.
Anyhoo, better go and organise some dinner  .

Blubber....I'm feeding him at 4am - that's his usual feed after his last one at 6pm. The other times I'm re-settling - putting his dummy back in, shhhhing etc. He was doing this the week before and I was feeding him but he wasn't really feeding propery so I'm pretty confident it's not hunger
I'm at a total loss as to why he's waking...last night he did almost the same 1am,4am,6am. I'm wondering if it's habit now??? I really have no idea LOL
Today we bought a column heater just so we can rule out that he's cold.....I was thinking maybe teeth but he doesn't seem in pain. He goes back to sleep fairly quickly - I'm the one that can't
I'd love to hear any other suggestions...I really don't want to let him cry but this is getting ridiculous
Mon - Hope Liam is doing better....sounds terrible. Were you able to get some sleep today?
(Lmenz - I'm at a total loss as to why he's waking...last night he did almost the same 1am,4am,6am. I'm wondering if it's habit now??? I really have no idea LOL)
Perhaps he is hungry, tummy pains. A number of things.
My bub goes to bed at approx 7 and can sleep til 6am or earliest she wakes is about 2am. sometimes shes restless - dummy her and roll her on her side cover her with blankets really tight and she falls back to sleep on her own. youngest dd sleeps on her side all the time - helps her settle better cause she has bit of colic. ( being on her side is better as her tummy isnt stretched, like when she sleeps on her back).
sometimes they chop and change their routines - just when u get used to one they change their minds. thats kiddies for ya.

Was it one of the Fab Feb mummas that posted a story about how they thought they were spotting when they were pregnant, but it turned out that it was just a melted red M&M in their undies??
I could be wrong here.. but I'm thinking it was Sandy
(please don't hate me if I'm wrong !! :) )
my mothers group is starting to get a bit stressful. there is some regular discussion about the best place to meet (iykwim). i think i might give it a miss next time - it isnt worth going if it is going to be stressful (is it?)

Zig, if it's going to stress you out maybe give it a miss - maybe you could just meet up with a few of the mums?
US - Jack woke every 3 hours last night :crying: :crying:

you must be buggered.
good idea about the column heater - being cold is a really good thing to rule out.
you did ask for any ideas so here goes.
some of you may think i am a bad mother after reading this but as it may help i am going to put it out there anyway.
as far as letting them cry goes there are a lot of reasons for and against. i am not a huge fan of controlled crying in babies our age as it may be hard for them to understand why we are going in and out.
that being said i have noticed with lily that how she goes to sleep in the first place is a good indicator of how she will sleep later in the night. she sleeps better if i put her down fully awake (eyelids not heavy), still wrap one arm and in her sleeping bag. she has her comforter (which is like a woobie) and no dummy.
she puts herself to sleep. i have done this so when she wakes during a sleep cycle in the night she can put herself back to sleep.
she sometimes shouts out for me to come back for a few minutes but usually just lies there awake starting at her mobile and sucking her finger until she drops off.
obviously it was not like this in the beginning. the first few days were horrible - she cryed on and off for half an hour and so did i. the way i made it was with a glass of wine and my husband holding me dowm. sometimes i would have a shower or leave the house for 10 minutes (dh still there of course).
i knew she was well fed, warm, winded, clean nappy. i knew she was just tired. i know this as i know my baby. i explained to her what i was going to do.
i do not believe this is controlled crying as i dont go in and out. if i go back in i am and patting in the cot till she is asleep
i am not writing this to rub it in but more as an example of how sometimes a bit of letting them cry makes them and you a lot happier in the long run.
sorry for the long post. hope this helps or least stimulates some lively conversation
Jack is able to put himself to sleep too. He's always gone down awake. I do a bit of settling and then leave the room. 9 times out of 10 he will fall asleep himself.......Until recently (2 weeks) he was sleeping 6.30-4ish we never heard a peep out of him. After a feed he would then go down until 7am. He has always put himself back to sleep after a night feed also
This is why I can't understand what he's doing
After he goes down at night he's been waking after 40 minutes and crying out. As soon as his dummy is back in he goes off to sleep. It's like he's still half asleep when crying out.
Last week he was constantly getting out of his wrap so we thought it may be time for him to go into a sleeping bag - BIG MISTAKE  Everytime he wakes during the night he hits himself in the face with his arms. This morning at 5.45 I wrapped him and he fell asleep on his own. In the sleeping bag we have had to hold his arms down until he falls asleep
Something is waking him or preventing him from going back to sleep...maybe the dummy? maybe teeth? maybe the cold?
I will let him cry if he's just tired but I have a feeling it's more than that........
I'm just baffled that he could change so dramatically in the space of two weeks. He's been a fantastic night sleeper since he was born
morning everyone...
see you in live chat tonight.
