When its not too hot its always good to take bubs for a walk i find & i also have times where i push bubs out the front in his pram & he sits & watches the trees & talks to himself heheh he loves it !! Of course again when its not too hot & also as we have an enclosed front courtyard it makes it a little safer heh.
I also have "dance" time lol glad he doesnt realise how bad i am yet ;)
As well as playing "this little piggy" & "round & round the garden" we sit on the lounge together & do this as well as me showing him eyes nose etc & we then have lots of tickles & cuddles this is our special thing IYKWIM.
She is still little so enjoy it before she works out how to take off :p

Hi Brooke

I started taking my DD to storytime at our local library when she was about 4 months old, we just stay for the first half hour and listen to two stories. When she's bigger they do craft and have another couple of stories. She loves it, she sits on my knee and listens. They often sing songs and shake ratttles/bells etc. She is the youngest there but no-one seems to care. (Plus its a trip out for mum and a bit of adult contact, a great way to start the week:D )

Blowing bubbles-another favourite and very cheap, you can usually pick up a bottle of bubbles at the supermarket or make your own.

Listening to nursery rhyme tapes (borrowed from the library), reading, walks. We have also got a very cheap ball which I roll her on for tummy time, bounce on for Humpty Dumpty and roll back and forth between hubby and me with her helping one of us.

Thats all I can think of for now

Manxie - I love the idea of story time at the library. I went straight to our local online and found their story time. I'll be giving that a go next week!

AJ and I also play tug-of-war and he loves it when I sing to him (poor kid has no idea how bad I am ;) )

AJ also loves dancing (anything with a good beat, atm he loves tina turner - go figure). When he was really little I used to hold him, like we were waltzing and dance around to classical music.

He loves to be an aeroplane, where I hold him like he is lying on his tummy and he "flies" between mummy and daddy.

"where's aj?" or "where's mummy" is lots of fun, I love the glee on his face when he finds me.

when he was really small he loved sitting out in the garden with me while I did some gardening, he'd look at the trees and listen to the birds.

he never liked story time that much, I think it is because he has to sit still for it, and he has ants in his pants.

he loves having a shower, he goes in there and just hangs out at the moment.

From about 6 months he liked to go the the park and just sit on the play equipment, or sit on my lap while I swing gently. Oh and he loves the slide (we hold him as he slides).

Jade is five months old (tomorrow) and these are things we have been doing together since she was born.. not every day I mix it up a bit.

-sing lots
-play peeka boo
-dance
-listen to music (all sorts)
-go for walks (weather permitting)
-go swimming
-play with toys
-I have set up a 'reading' corner in her room with one big cushion I made and lots of little cushions.. I have some fairy lights over us like a canopy, we read and Jade switches from looking at the pictures in the books to looking at the lights, she seems to really love it.
-I sit her in her chair (rocker thingo) put on some soft music and let her entertain herself for a while so she doesn't depend on me to constantly entertain her.
-we go to the local library for story time too (as someone else mentioned)
-I used to work in a theatre so I take her there sometimes and we watch plays (they are kiddies plays like Goldilocks and the three bears and Three pigs etc.) you may find a similar childrens theatre near you.
-play with our pets, especailly the dog, he loves it!
-I sit her in her highchair when I am cooking. I pretend she is my audience and I am on a cooking show explaining all the ingredients and what I am doing.. being in her highchair she can see exactly what I am doing.. sounds a little goofy, I know, but she seems to like it.
-when I 'work out' sits ups etc I include her. Sit her on my tummy while I am doing sit ups, use her as a 'weight' when I am doing arm exercises. Lay her on the floor and give her a kiss everytime I do a push up. I count while I am exercising, legs lifts etc.
-plane rides around the house (keep a spit up cloth handy :D )
-shoulder rides (watch her head!)
-rhyming games.. like I say a word and then give as many rhymes as I can.. Jade, spade, made, laid, trade, wade, etc

that'll do for now :)

Oh im so glad im not the only one who does things like cook or wash up while making it seem like im on t.v :D Im sure bubs will realise im crazy one day LOL :p
I love the idea about the reading corner !!!!! Ive been working out how to change bubs room around as im getting a new chest of drawers & ive also been pondering a small bookcase so books etc can be accessible for him but have worried about trying to keep the chair i have in his room as well as all of this so now i have a great idea on what to do thanx Tash :D

Jaderocks- the reading corner sounds fantastic:D What a great idea, I'm going to give it a go too. I'm a bit dumb, what have you hung the fairy lights from?

They do lots of childrens theatre here in Adelaide and I cant wait to go! Most of them are for when she is about 2 though.

Ooh I love playtime, I never thought it would be so much fun.

Manxie I'm a bit woodwork handy so I cut a couple of bits of 3mm MDF to fit across the corner (sort of wedge shaped, but not sticking out enough to bump heads on). Attached to the wall sandwich like, I seperarate them with a bit of 2x4. Then I drilled holes in the bottom piece and fit the fairy lights in the holes. Painted it the colour of the sky (with a couple of clouds) and voila! fairy light mini ceiling. A bonus is the top of it is also a shelf for various things.

If you aren't too handy with wood I was also thinking of just getting some chicken wire (or similar) and attaching that to the wall and string the fairy lights across along with some bright tuel or something to hide the chicken wire.

Or I thought about a see through material hung across and laying the lights on that (I figured since they go on plastic trees etc the fire hazard would be minimal)

The other thing I thought of was to simply hang one of the materials straight down the wall and clip or pin the fairy lights into that.. so it still provided some light and something for Jade to look at.

As I siad, I went with the wood, but any of those would work. Of course keeping in mind all the saftey things like power cords out of the way, fire hazards and keeping whatever you use to hold the lights unpulldownable :)

good luck! I love reading corners :D

oh, then you also have Patch theatre there! They do the same stuff. Although the plays are aimed at older children than ours, Jade loves watching the bright colours of the costumes and listening to the music and songs. I don't think a child is ever too young for theatre (but that's my field so I may be bias ;) )
