Hi,

I have just moved to the Liverpool area in Sydney, I have always worked in a full-time job and since moving to Liverpool cannot find anywork as I am 33 weeks pregnant and no-one wants to employ me.

I want to find something I can do from home that will enable me to work around my baby.

I have a background in Business Administration and Information Technology.

I started my own IT business in QLD, but didnt get off the ground as there is just too many IT Service businesses around now.

I mainly serviced PC's for family & friends and never charged them. I did put advertisements in the local papers and bulletin boards at uni's and the local shops but never got any work out of it.

I can create websites as well, and love Administration type work.

Does anyone know of any work around the liverpool area or any other jobs that would suit me that I could pursue, that would be home based - some direction as to where I could start would be great too.

Thanking you

Tate

Have you thought about just putting a small ad in the local paper (we have a local paper that just gets circulated to our end of town) for computer repairs/websites and seeing if you get any bites. I know its really hard to find spare cash while trying to get ready for the baby but you never know your luck. Even if you got a couple of phone calls you could go from there.

Hi Ami,

I have no idea where to start or how to approach people regarding a website. Anyone got a suggestion on how I could email people to get my foot in the door to create these websites??

you could try local businesses that have products that would do well on the web. Get some facts on how many people use the web, blah blah to help convince them a website would enhance their business. You could also offer to optimise the site to make sure it continues to rank high on the popular surf engines.

hi

i know it's not what you were looking for but i've just started doing party plan, the money is great you choose the hours that suit you and a party only takes 2-3 hours, i normally profit $150-220 per show, the company i work for does not pressure sell or give us targets to meet it really understands families.

I live at St Helens Park and have a great network with other consultants in the Campbelltown, Liverpool and Blacktown area, i've made some great friends.

if this interests you pls let me know and i can get you some contact details and details on joining.

cheers

I am working from home a few days a week as part of a package I negotiated late last year...

If I can suggest anything, try and avoid those home business scam type ads in the paper... Maybe ring around or pop into some local small businesses and see if they need someone to deal with paperwork and/or phone calls or something similar that you can do from home.

Honey you are not the only one, I am still trying to find a way to mix home and work together, I have actually gone back to work three days a fortnight, to keep my sanity as I have two under 3.
But some tips that may be useful,
My mum has started her own business(in sewing) by going to the local clothes outlets and asking if they need any alterations, there are a few companies that have given her work and also passed her name onto customers for private items, she is now turning work away because there is not enough hours in the day.
A very good family friend of 18 years, was met when she worked freelance as a typist, for a printing shop that needed hand written items converted to text. Again, she got the job by getting friendly with the owner, (walking in off the street and asking if they needed someone to do typing freelance) - at the time she had a 3 month old, she would put the child in the highchair and do 2-4 hours a day to buy the extras.
Moral of these stories, there are alot of small businesses that would like the work done but don't want to go the big companies and pay big $'s some also are just doing things because they do not have the time to find someone else. Approach some of the local businesses and ask if they would like someone to do their books and have it returned to them, or if they have any PC/IT related issues that you could help them with.

Good luck with the search and don't give up.

Hi,

Can I make a suggestion regarding the advertising.

My DDs school has a weekly newsletter and companies advertise on the back of that (for a small fee). It might be worth ringing a few schools to see if they offer the same thing.

There are about 12 companies that advertise on ours (no two are the same), and I know that it is the first place I go to look for tradies/pc help etc.

Thank you for everyone suggestions.

I finally decided to join Creative Memories. I love scrapbooking and decided since I love it so much, why don't I earn some money doing it.

I have been a consultant for a month now and will never look back.

Thanks to everyone again.

Suggestions really helped and am sure to use most of them when advertising my business. Thanks

I know, I had the same problem trying to figure out what to do from home. I know a girlfriend of mine found a website that has a book you can buy with heaps of info on what to do. Apparently she is now selling her jewelry online and making decent money.
