My DD1 had her first pillow at 2 years when she moved into a big bed.
They are not meant to have them under 9 months as it is a SIDS risk. The don't need them for their neck support etc until after 12 months - then it is a question of whether you think they need one. I have to say that DD1 who has one very rarely sleeps on it (and it is very thin) - it mainly gets used to prop me up when I am reading bedtime stories.

Wow I never realised it could be that early. Ruri sleeps on her tummy mainly so I dont think she is ready yet. I have seen a few baby pillows around but they all look to high and too big. Where did you buy yours from?

I got DD1 her pillow when she was about 2 as well. She had already been in a big bed for around 6 months then. I got one of those tea tree ones so they can't suffocate, and it kinda moulds to her head and neck so supports her right...IYKWIM? Also, on the hot nights we get out here, it doesn't get all wet and sweaty....which is good. I got mine from a homewares kind of store with bedlinen and stuff, for around $30. Took me a while to find one, but then again, i live in the sticks! LOL

She slept fine without one, but kept on creeping up and hitting the bedhead, so thought it might stop her a bit.....

~MUMMY~ - Sounds like my nephew heheheh. Mind you now he hardly even uses one except to throw around the room lol.

I was told to not give one even when they move into a big bed & wait for them to ask "why havent i got one when mummy & daddy do ?" as they dont need one before 12mths as draught was saying.
But i still use a baby pillow for decoration in bubs cot now though hehehehe.

With my first son my nan made a pillow i think you could say it was wadding with a quilt fabric sewn to make the pillow so it matched the quilt she made. My ds wouldn't go anywhere without it.:p

CAnt you just use a normal pillow, pillow? Do you have to buy a spcialally formulted baby pillow? i am contemplation pillow for dd. She is 13 months. She is a roamer in the bed. I am trying to teach her to be tucked in and given teddy, kiss goodnight...so we can take the next leap to the bed. Gosh I hope she is not a roamer in a big bed. eek.

I have just put a pillow in my DD's cot as she was pushing herself to the top of the cot and banging her head. She was also very wakeful at night. She is 15 months. The first couple of nights after the pillow she slept so much better.

Jasmine loves a pillow. She's 8 months and I just started putting one in with her. Mainly because I couldn't get her to sleep in her cot, but she was quite happy sleeping in our bed. I wanted to make her bed seem like ours. :D She loves grabbing it and pulling it in close to her.

my kids were over 12 months before I gave them a pillow. DD is now 2, and she goes to sleep on her pillow, but once asleep, I take it off her.
