Hi
Bub has been waking up frequently at night for the past week or so and I wonder if it's due to the cold.I've seen a lot of threads on this forum debating what type of heater to use in babies's rooms. The tie seems to be between fan heaters and oil heaters. Can someone please give me an idea of how much your electricity bill went up by,after using these?
We get our electricity bill every 3 months and it's around 100-120$.
Thanks:)

Hi i looked into all the heaters and i really didnt like the floor heaters. My nan told me about a heater that goes up on the wall. It has a remote and everything. Im going to get one for DD room because it also has a timer on it :). As for the elec bill im not too sure. You can buy these heaters from Bunnings from around $70-$80 and they also have a cool setting in them as well for summer :)

My Dad has a spaz if we get anything other than an oil heater. He says almost every other electric type heater chews up too much electricity.

I bought an 11 fin oil heater and it's great. It heats up real quick and I also put DS clothes on it in the mornings so when I put them on him they're nice and toasty.

They're also not too hot to touch. DS touched it about 6-12 months ago and although he didn't get burnt, it was enough of a shock to not touch it again- he hasn't touched it since.

Most oil heaters run at around 20cents per hour (some are more some are less - depending on the brand and energy rating)
Fan forced heaters.. ugh - they send the elec bill skyrocketing.. my landlord replaced my elec heater with a fan forced one (fan is unable to be turned off) - it added almost $100 onto my 3 month winter elec bill.

I would only put an oil column heater or one of the wall mounted reverse cycle ones into childrens rooms.

Oil heaters are definitely the cheapest. Go on your electricity supplier's website and you can see how much certain appliances cost to run. - well you can with Energex....

Oil heaters are definately my preferance. We've got 1500W ones in both girls rooms. You can set the temp, they are not too hot to touch and they are cheap to run. I go the 1500W because they have Min/Med/High settings.

Hi there,

We just bought an oil heater on the weekend which has a thermostat and timer on it.

We spent the extra money on one that has the fins covered, because I was too scard once bub was mobile next year, he may fall and hurt his head on the fins.

Anything with a fan is also no good as it drys out the skin I would have thought.
