Lately I have had a few questions about newborns (how much they feed, how long do they sleep etc) so I thought I would ask a bunch of questions and everyone can answer them in one hit (hope that makes sense), you'd think I would know by now about newborns coz I already have a kid but I simply just forget sometimes.
1. How often do you to feed your baby?
2. How much do they take at each feed?
3. If bottle feeding, can you overfeed/feed to much?
4. What time does your little one go to bed? Do they go to bed at the same time as older sibling/s?
5. At night if your baby sleeps through (or sleeps long periods between feeds) do you wake them or do you just leave them to sleep?
6. And what about during the day? Do you wake them after a certain amount of time?
7. What age are you going to get them into a rountine? (if at all)
8. How many nappies does your bubba go through in a day and do you change them at every feed or just when they need it?
9. Is it ok to give them a bit of water in between feeds esp if they are on formula?
thanks, I hope they questions make sense.

This is only what I'v found so far (so me and bub are still working things out too)
1. In the day time, when she likes, so about every 2 to 3 hours. At night I feed her after her first big sleep then go to daytime feeding times. Baby knows when she is hungry.
2. Hard to tell as I bf.
4. We give dd her bath at about 5:30 - 6pm then give her a feed and then it's off to sleep at about 7:30 or 8ish
5. No! let them sleep.
6. Let them sleep. (I have gently changed a nappy to wake dd up so that we can do the bedtime Bath, feed off to sleep thing though. I don't fancy putting a baby to sleep after my bedtime:sleeping: )
8. Tons:eek: !!! I haven't counted but someone was telling me thire baby only used 5 nappys a day. Well my one is like 15 for the day and night maybe more (lucky I use cloth!)
9. I wan't to know when to start giving a baby water too?

1. How often do you to feed your baby? no idea, just whenever he wants it. Every 2-3hrs during the day and anywhere from every 3hrs to every 6hrs at night.
2. How much do they take at each feed? anywhere from 120mls to 240mls
3. If bottle feeding, can you overfeed/feed to much? no, if he doesn't want it, he will refuse to have it in his mouth
4. What time does your little one go to bed? Do they go to bed at the same time as older sibling/s? about 6:30-8pm. Matthew goes to bed at 7:30 and the older 2 at 8
5. At night if your baby sleeps through (or sleeps long periods between feeds) do you wake them or do you just leave them to sleep? no, never wake him. Tried it once as he had been stirring a lot and he had me up every 2hrs during the night after that.
6. And what about during the day? Do you wake them after a certain amount of time? no, never
7. What age are you going to get them into a rountine? (if at all) I've been trying since birth, but because of the school run, it's impossible.
8. How many nappies does your bubba go through in a day and do you change them at every feed or just when they need it? I change at every feed, or if he poops. So I'm guessing we go through 8 a day.
9. Is it ok to give them a bit of water in between feeds esp if they are on formula? I don't just yet though.

Skye only has about 5 or 6 nappies a day (thats over a 24 hour period) and so did Hayley at her age.

1. Every 3 hours or when he wants it, he is now stretching out his feed times
2. Any where from 100mls to 200mls
3. Nope they will refuse it or just throw it back up.
4. Anywhere between 7pm and 9pm just depends on feed time usually. I have older boys and they go to bed around 8pm to 9pm
5. Nope never wake a sleeping baby.
6. nope never
7. Trying to get Jacob into a routine but he keeps throwing it out LOL
Routine is what helped my DS2 sleep through the night at 3 weeks old
8. Jacob goes through heaps, every feed time and when he poops and then if he is unsettled we change again.
9. You dont have to but i have given Jacob a few goes at water and sometimes he takes it and sometimes he doesnt. They say it helps with constipation (if bubs is formula fed)

1. How often do you to feed your baby? About every 3-4hrs during the day with one 5-6hrly at night. On demand - when bubs asks, bub gets.
2. How much do they take at each feed? b/f - so hard to tell, when DH fed him one night when iw as alseep, he took about 110mL (6weeks)
3. If bottle feeding, can you overfeed/feed to much? Tough one - some babies like to suck, so if they have a fast flow teat and drink fast, they might tend to demand more, so you could overfeed them. Generally, most babies won't drink heaps more than they need, but you should check their weight is in proportion to length etc before getting too concerned.
4. What time does your little one go to bed? Do they go to bed at the same time as older sibling/s? Last feed is usually between 8:30-10:30. Lately he ahs been haign a feed at 6:30, so is finishing & ready for nap when Dd goes down at 7:30 - so she thinks he is down for the night too. I don't believe in inroducing a 'bedtime' as such until bubs is older.
5. At night if your baby sleeps through (or sleeps long periods between feeds) do you wake them or do you just leave them to sleep? As he was premmie, we used to wake him, but after really good weightgains - we let him sleep - and are enjoying it while it lasts.:D
6. And what about during the day? Do you wake them after a certain amount of time? Not usually. If it ahs been over 3hrs since last feed & we have to be somewhere, i'll wake & feed before we go, so we don't have to stop for an hour & do it while we are out shopping etc.
7. What age are you going to get them into a rountine? (if at all) With DD it was around 6-8months. Once he starts solids and is a bit more aware of surroundings. But my routines with DD were all flexible. I'm not one to say, oh dear i can't come to lunch girls, that's when bubs has his sleep, and i can't alter that. IYKWIM
8. How many nappies does your bubba go through in a day and do you change them at every feed or just when they need it? usually 6-10, depending on the day. I change at every feed, and sometimes twice if he poos again. Then when he has awake times during the day, i'll often change him before he goes back to bed.
9. Is it ok to give them a bit of water in between feeds esp if they are on formula? As far as i know it is fine. Esp in warmer months, or if they are constipated (which formula can often do) If they are b/f they can usually take extra b/f if they need a drink. The only negative i can see in giving a b/f bub water from a bottle would be nipple confusion (as happened with DD) So far DS has had only a few bottles from the tommee tippee teat to try & avoid it.

It apears that my baby has a leak:laughing:
I have been counting the nappys and so far I have used 5 and it's only mid afternoon. I will use at least 5 tonight and who knows how many between now and sleep time..........

1. How often do you to feed your baby? 3-5 hourly she is breastfed but one formula feed at bedtime.
2. How much do they take at each feed? Not sure but she has about 80mls of her formula feed.
3. If bottle feeding, can you overfeed/feed to much? Yeah you can, often people mistake wind etc for hunger. But usually if they are THAT full they will refuse it anyways.
4. What time does your little one go to bed? Do they go to bed at the same time as older sibling/s? We give the formula feed at 7.30-8pm and she is settled by 10.30-11pm long time I know but she sleeps for 5 hrs straight.
5. At night if your baby sleeps through (or sleeps long periods between feeds) do you wake them or do you just leave them to sleep? I would leave her lol!
6. And what about during the day? Do you wake them after a certain amount of time? Not anymore, we did in the first few weeks as she was early and had jaundice.
7. What age are you going to get them into a rountine? (if at all) She has one now sort of.
8. How many nappies does your bubba go through in a day and do you change them at every feed or just when they need it? I check each time she wakes usually she is wet/soiled every 3 hrs.
9. Is it ok to give them a bit of water in between feeds esp if they are on formula? Definately. Bottle fed babies need water, whereas breastfed not as much as the breastmilk contains water. Olivia loved her water she had it from 2 weeks old!

1. How often do you to feed your baby?
when she's hungry. i don't tend to count.
2. How much do they take at each feed?
she's breastfed, so i couldn't tell you a measurement... but she feeds for about 20min on each side.
3. If bottle feeding, can you overfeed/feed to much?
n/a
4. What time does your little one go to bed? Do they go to bed at the same time as older sibling/s?
we try to get her down at about 8-9pm each night... although that has been impossible the last few nights.
5. At night if your baby sleeps through (or sleeps long periods between feeds) do you wake them or do you just leave them to sleep?
i WISH she slept longer... or that she just slept!! we have had a few 4 hours stints which are fine... she'll wake when she's hungry.
6. And what about during the day? Do you wake them after a certain amount of time?
again, she wakes when she's hungry.
7. What age are you going to get them into a rountine? (if at all)
we've got a semi-routine in the morning and evening. morning she's up between 6-7am for a feed, then naps for a few hours whilst i fit in breakfast, shower etc. in the evenings we get her ready for bed after we finish dinner with a bath or shower every second night and then booby feed.
8. How many nappies does your bubba go through in a day and do you change them at every feed or just when they need it?
i check her at every feed, but if she's grizzly i'll also check her. in a 24 hr period we'll usually go through about 12 nappies.
9. Is it ok to give them a bit of water in between feeds esp if they are on formula?
couldn't help with that
1. How often do you to feed your baby?
Every 3 hours or so (4 or 5 at night)
2. How much do they take at each feed?
120ml
3. If bottle feeding, can you overfeed/feed to much?
sometimes he wants less, sometimes more, so I just play it by ear
4. What time does your little one go to bed? Do they go to bed at the same time as older sibling/s?
Very unsettled from 5 - 11pm then settles around midnight - 8am (my 6 and 10 year old go to bed at 7.30pm)
5. At night if your baby sleeps through (or sleeps long periods between feeds) do you wake them or do you just leave them to sleep?
Leave him - usually will sleep 3 or 4 hours straight, wake for a feed around 3am, then sleeps another 4 hours straight
6. And what about during the day? Do you wake them after a certain amount of time?
Never wake him for a feed
7. What age are you going to get them into a rountine? (if at all)
A very flexible routine has formed where he feeds during the day every 3 hours, unsettled period in the evening then sleeps very soundly from midnight to mid morning, waking only to feed twice. I bath him before his 7pm feed to get him in the habit, doesnt seem to work yet..
8. How many nappies does your bubba go through in a day and do you change them at every feed or just when they need it?
I change him before every feed and if he needs it after as well if he is awake
9. Is it ok to give them a bit of water in between feeds esp if they are on formula?
I tried him today with boiled water warmed up a little as he was wanting to feed only 1 hour after he had fed. He only drank about 30mls of it then was okay... will use it during the day in between feeds if he is hungry..
1. How often do you feed your baby?
Up until yesterday it was every 3 hours, she decided about 11am yesterday to change it to every hour and a half, even at night.
2. How much do they take at each feed?
About 120mls of EBM, 90mls of formula
3. What time does your little one go to bed?
I try to put her to bed around 7pm but every day is different
4. Do you wake them for feeds at night?
I used to, I thought it was the right thing to do, but now I just leave her. If she's hungry she'll wake up. I also leave her during the day.
5. What age are you going to get them into a routine (if at all)?
I am trying at the moment to get some sort of routine. DH keeps waking her up when I don't want him to and changing her bath time from morning to night and back every day. Hopefully I've established something by 6 - 8 weeks.
6. How many nappies does your baby go through every day and do you change them at every feed or just when they need it?
About 10 - 15 nappies every day. I change her before every feed and sometimes in the middle of feeds if she falls asleep.
7. Is it ok to give them a bit of water?
The middies gave Annalise water at the hospi to help her wind so I don't see why not.
1. How often do you feed your baby?
Im not sure, probably has around 8 - 10 feeds a day, maybe a little more/less, depending (is B/F)
2. How much do they take at each feed?
Unsure, but my DD was taking around the 120ml at this age..
3. What time does your little one go to bed?
ATM we dont have a set time, if I go to bed, DH is always still up, I just make sure he is fed, etc..
4. Do you wake them for feeds at night?
Nope, not in a million years, lol..... If they are hungry, they will wake and let you know, in no uncertain terms..
5. What age are you going to get them into a routine (if at all)?
I have to start very soon, as we didnt do it with DD, I was working almost from day one, and DH was a sahd, and he just went with the flow, and she still hasnt gotten a routine properly
6. How many nappies does your baby go through every day and do you change them at every feed or just when they need it?
Umm, Im not sure, probably around the 10 - 20, depending on his feeds etc.. we use cloth, and he has shocking excema skin, so we have to change often..
7. Is it ok to give them a bit of water?
Yep, Im sure it is, but just a q back, why do you give her water?, only asking, cause I dont know the answer myself.. lol :o

what sort of nappies are you using? that doesnt sound right. unless you are changing every time she is slightly damp?
I am using huggies for the first big sleep. I also use them when I go out.
For the rest of the time I use terry fitted nappys.
I't not the foult of the nappy, a certain little princess lets you know loud and clear when it's time to change her nappy.
But she does wee a LOT. I find that she's not usuly do one big poo, but several small ones during the day.

[COLOR="Navy"][B] why do you give her water?, only asking, cause I dont know the answer myself.. lol :o
Sometimes Skye will have a full bottle (120 mls) and then only half hour later she will want more, I'm not sure if she wants more milk or if shes thristy, I give her water sometimes though she only takes about 20 to30 mls anyway. Also sometimes she can get a little constipated.
