Tesco/Supermarkets = Supermarkets: Woolworths and Coles are the Tesco-lke ones
Newsagents = same old Newsagents
Off Licence = Bottle shop - (Bottlo :D)
Currys/Dixons = Not sure what that is?
Argos = We have no shop liek Argos with their ordering system thing, but there is a big show called "Big W" that sells the same sort of stuff.
Mothercare/Babies R Us = Babies Galore and BabyCo come to mind
Boots = nothing really like it...... probably bigger, chain chemist shops maybe?
Markets = as in just markets?
Pint= a middy of beer is a bit smaller, and a schooner is a bit bigger, unless you're mvong to Melbourne they call them something different there, but don't worry about that as they're all crazy :p
Glass of wine = ? I'm pretty sure it's the same.... I think the standard drink my be 225ml of wine?

Have a great trip over!!!

Currys/Dixon: The closest equivalent would be Retravision. But all the major department stores here (Myer and David Jones) have great electrical departments in a way that the stores over there don't. They would be the place to go. Oh and Harvey Norman.

Boots: The closest would be Priceline Pharmacies. Still not quite there but you can supplement with other places like Price Attack and you'd be getting there.

Argos: As Phineas said, catalogue shopping isn't really done here. The nearest equivalent would be IKEA.

Markets: There are some in Sydney (which is where I think you said you were moving to). There's Paddington Markets up on Oxford Street which is similar to the outdoor Covent Garden Markets: artsy and craftsy. The Rocks Markets on Sundays are similar to this, too. There's Paddy's Market in Haymarket which is indoors and has a selection of things from tourist tat to fresh produce. The big fresh produce market (of the Smithfields variety) is in Flemington. There are small markets on here and there on particular Saturdays of each month.

Did any of that make sense? Sorry, fighting off a child as I type!

Hi there

I'm in Brisbane and for us

Tesco/Supermarkets = Well Coles and Woolworths are the main supermarkets but they're not like Tescos. I find them more like Budgens - they have everything you need but nowhere near the choice you're used to. Anyone else agree?? (I really miss Tesco's, can you tell? :yes: )
Newsagents = News Express is the main one round my way
Off Licence = Bottle shops - drive thru ones too!! Liquor Land and Beers Wines and Spirits are the main ones here
Currys/Dixons = Retravision or Harvey Norman
Argos = Nothing really
Mothercare/Babies R Us = Baby Co, Babies Galore but the local Kmart, Big W and Target have good baby sections
Boots = Not really. Lots of independant chemists plus Malouf. Priceline is like Superdrug - very good.
Markets = ?

Hope this helps. Oh and yes, we all love Ebay. Always seems to be someone selling gorgeous Next baby clothes!

Milly has lots of new Next and M and S clothes through Ebay! They last so well!!Always admired too by the Australian mums I meet.

Tesco`s I miss but was nearer an Asda and loved it...especially George section.

IMO not many equivalents at all but you get used to it and the better things about being here, ie the weather....more than compensate...well most days!
