View Full Version : I'm New!
Hi there everyone! Well this is my first post - a bit about myself - I am Nicole and I am 20, My fiance is Matt and he is 23. We currently live at Wagga but are moving to Raymond Terrace in about 4 weeks...
Our first baby is due on the 22nd of October and we can't wait! It would be great to chat to some other mums about the area, and would love some feed back about hospitals... I'm debating between Maitland Hospital and John Hunter - but I haven't had a chance to see either of them yet.
Well i will talk to you all later!
Nicole
Hi Nicole, and welcome!
I'm Kate, I'm 29 and have four kids under 9- yes I'm insane :banghead: lol. Nah, they're good kids and I love them to bits! I'm just outside of Maitland, moved here from Victoria in January. This group is SO welcoming so you'll love it in here!
I had three of my kids at Belmont Hospital, and my last in Melbourne,so don't have firsthand experience with either JHH or Maitland. But I'm sure someone else here would.
Congrats on your pregnancy!
x Kate

Hi Nic....i've had a child at each of those hospitals. The first was at maitland ten years ago....and i had fairly good experience for my first.( others i've heard have had teerible ones) my second was 6.5 months ago at Jh and i never want to go back there..i had a traumatic experience( others havent though)....if i have another im going newy private for various reasons. Umm in saying this.........you need to weigh up which hospy is closer etc....i would go and look at both before u made a decision...being ur first u may get more support !Hope this doesnt sound to horrible and i have helped u in someway....goodluck:wave:

Hi Nicole!!
I'm Zoe and live in Maitalnd which is about 20 minutes from where you will be :smiliedance:
I have 2 girls aged 3 yrs and 11 months. I had both of them at Maitland :) I was 20 when I had my first too
I think the differences between the hospitals are much of a muchness....... it's usually the staff that make or break an experience, and that all depends on who is working when you are there, that changes from shift to shift and can change dramatically from year to year!
In saying that, I had an awful experience at Maitland 3 years ago, but a great experience 11 months ago. In Raymond Terrace I'd say you're about equal distance from both hospitals so really it's up to you with what you prefer!
Generally, I've heard that the ante-natal care is much better at Maitland than JHH (there are seriously some WONDERFUL midwives in the antenatal unit at Maitland), but the post-natal care in the maternity unit is better at JHH (there are some seriously b!tchy midwives in the maternity unit at Maitland! )
Hope that helped at bit!
Hi Nicole
Congrats on your pregnancy.
I'm Fiona, I have a 3 year old boy and am expecting our second bubba in August.
I am having this bubba at John Hunter birth centre.I have been seeing the same midwife there and have been really happy with the care I have received.I am hoping to come home soon after this baby is born and the midwives will visit you at home which is great.
Hope your move goes well.

they visited me also Fi and i had bub in the normal ward!.......I went through 4 shifts of midwives having dd#2 at the JH.....so thats a fair indicator of my experience there...the after care (the 2day i stayed in) was good..i had one really nice midwife who was really concerned and kept checking up on me

Welcome Nicole! I am Nichole too! Am I correct in assuming your Fiance is in the Raaf? My girlfriends Dh was in the Raaf and went from Wagga to Williamtown so just wondered?
I personally wouldnt give birth at JHH. I had my first child there when I was also 20 and thought it was absolutely terrible, have since had two more children at Newcastle Private and it was absolutely wonderful! Have heard good things about Maitland though. It is all an individual thing so worthwhile going and having a look for yourself and going with your gut feeling I think. Good luck and dont stress about it too much, the baby will be born no matter where you go so I guess its the end result that counts!! I am sure you will enjoy being a first time mother and you will have plenty of support from the girls on here....x
