in qld i know the law is that a child has to be restrained in a seat untill 12 months of age. After that time they dont have to which is stupid I think the law will be changed soon cause they have been having it on tv alor
No, they have to be in booster until they are at least 5 i think.
My son is 5 and still in a speshy seat.
You can actually get fined if they are not properly restrained.

Yep its true..
They dont have to be in any seat/booster after 12months just the normal seat/seatbelt..
:fingerscrossed: Parents are smart enough to keep them in a proper restraint for much longer though..

Exactly what she said !
From the RTA NSW website
In NSW:
* The driver of a car is responsible for ensuring that where restraints are available, children who are passengers use them at all times.
* Except when no Seat Belt is fitted to a vehicle (only very old cars), all occupants 16 years and older must wear Seat Belts.
* Babies under 12 months must be in an approved Child Restraint.
* Children between 1 and 15 years must wear a Child Restraint or a Seat Belt if one is available. There is nothing as good as an approved Child Safety Seat for children weighing between about 9kg and about 18kg. Children should continue to use one for as long as possible.
* If no restraint is available, children under 16 must travel on the back seat.
The 2nd bolded one basically means you can have them in either after12mths. .which is really really sad . .
My DD is 2 and still in a bubseat im hoping to keep her in it for as long as poss toddler booster seats dont seem as safe to me:no:

There is NO WAY I would let MJ travel in a car in anything other than a proper carseat. IMHO even booster seats are unsafe.
Wow. I am really suprised. I honestly thought it was a rule that they still had to be in a seat until 5.
Very dangerous. No way i would be letting my little dd travel with just a seatbelt at only 1.

Booster seats arent really safe at all . .there was some threads about them recently. .try looking at a safe n sound maxi rider or explorer. .these go from 8kgs to 26kgs, Ive got one on layby for my miss. They have the 5pt harness and then you can use a H harness so very safe for as long as they fit!

I just had a look at the qld site as we are going up for a holiday next week & here are their rules
Seatbelt laws
Babies aged under one must be must be protected in an approved child restraint (for example, a baby capsule) that is properly fastened and adjusted.
Children over one and under 16 should be restrained in an appropriate Standards Australia-approved child restraint (for example, a child seat, booster seat or child safety harness) that is properly fastened and adjusted.
There are different restraints for children of different sizes. If a child is large enough the normal seatbelt must be used.
 Banana benders are good for something after all  !
Hi Jodie9 I have missed you on the SAHM thread.. Hope you are keeping well.. Wow I dont think that is the case in SA.. I am fairly certain they have brought in laws that children must be in a child seat until they reach a certain weight, not age.. My little girl is only 3 months off turning one and there is no way she would be in a seat belt only.. They are far too small still at this age... What state are you in??
