I was induced on the 9th of May as my BP was rising and CTG's showed that bubs wasn't doing so well in there. According to my OB, I was 41 weeks, but by my calculations the 9th of May was my EDD. Either way, I was glad she was coming!
I had a S&S on the 2nd of May which didn't do anything except give me some cramps, then I had another one on the 7th of May. Had a bit of bleeding after that then lost my plug on the 8th May. That night it still hadn't sunk in that the next day I'd have my baby! We rang family and told them what was happening the next day and everyone wished us well. The next morning however, OMG I was a nervous wreck! I woke up super early and had my weet bix and banana but I could hardly eat it. I went to the toilet about 10 times too and had the shakes from nerves. In the car on the way to the hospi I kept saying to DH "I can't believe we'll get our baby today". I was excited and sh!tting myself at the same time...
Speaking of which, we got to the hospi at about 7.30am, checked in and the middie asked if I wanted an enema. I said yes please and the deed was done. It was probably the best decision I made as I wasn't worried about any "accidents" during the labour so I was more relaxed about that. That was 7.45am. At 8.40am my OB arrived, told me I was 2cm dilated and broke my waters. What a weird experience, laying on the bed while all this warm water gushed out. Dh had a good look and couldn't believe how much there was. It was then he decided he would video the whole thing. For 9 months before that he swore black and blue he was going to be nowhere NEAR the business end, now he'd gone all David Attenborough on me. At 8.50am they put the drip in and I settled back to watch Kochie and Mel on Sunrise. At 9.30am the contrax started. It was like period pain with a kick. They put the CTG monitor on bubs about 10am and the contrax were getting stronger.
At 11am I asked to have the monitor taken off so I could walk around. I got out of bed and onto the fitball and rocked and rolled around on that for a while. It helped heaps. I needed to wee so I took my drip stand thing into the loo. I then discovered that sitting with my legs spread wide apart on the toilet felt great so I stayed there for a while.
I was chatting to the middie (Jules) who was awesome, she was just unreal for the whole thing. Me and DH were having a laugh, it was all so relaxed and I felt really in control of it all. Moonlighting was on tv and we were all trying to remember what the ladies name is (Cybill Shepperd btw). We had a snack, cheese and crackers, and I was doing ok, contrax were about 4 mins apart.
By 11.30am things were starting to get interesting. Contrax were stronger and about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 mins apart. I asked very politely "Excuse me, where is the epidural man?" and Jules said she'd ring and see how far away he was. She came back and said "How is 1pm?" I said "At the VERY latest it's ok", while thinking "GOD DAMN HURRY UP MAN". Thankfully he arrived at noon, he must have sensed that any later and I'd be one unhappy lady.
The epidural went in. I was sitting on the edge of the bed leaning my forehead on DH's. He was stroking my face gently. I said (not so gently) "Don't move" for fear that one stroke too many and I'd be paralysed for life  Anyway it was all over and done with in minutes and OMG the relief, it was soooo good. I loved the epidural. It was a bit patchy on the right side, but not unbearable.
At 1.10pm contrax were getting really strong and really close together. I knew things weren't far way from happening and I was getting so excited. The contrax were hurting quite a bit but I held off on having the epi topped up. I then asked DH when we were going to have another baby. He and Jules said maybe I should just deliver this one first. Good idea.
They topped up the epi at about 2pm, just as Ready Steady Cook was starting. At about 2.30pm I said to Jules "Should I be pushing with these contractions?" She said "Do you feel like pushing?" and I said "Why yes, I think I do". She did an internal and said I was fully dilated and could push to my hearts content. So I did. Just gentle pushing at the start, like trying to do a poo (sorry TMI!).
At about 3pm my OB arrived. He is a tiny chinese man and I am a 6'2" aussie girl so he had to lower the bed to see what he was doing. This made everyone laugh except me. I was thinking "Now is not the time for laughing people!" Dh was down there with the camera and I heard the OB say to him "See the head?" WOO HOO I was so excited!
Then the OB said "the cord is around her neck". I knew that he could just lift it off and I had faith in him, so I wasn't too worried.
About 15 minutes later my baby's head was born. It was totally blue and it turned out that the cord was around her neck twice. My OB unravelled it quickly though then said "Put your hands down here and deliver your baby" I was like "WHAT THE!?" I wasn't expecting that. I put my hands under her armpits and with another push I delivered her body and pulled her up onto my chest. It was amazing! She was so wet and slippery and squirmy and blue and I just loved her.
A few minutes later she did the tiniest cry, like a little monkey sound and I burst into tears. I couldn't stop kissing her. DH was sitting down, head between his knees and looking very pale. He came good though and gave her kisses and our family began.
It was absolutely amazing.
thanks for reading, sorry it's so long!
