View Full Version : Pillow Cases
Hi,
Seeing that we are not supposed to use pillows for babies cots, has anyone come up with a great use for the pillow cases that come with the sheet sets. I'm sick of storing them and I'm on the verge of throwing them out.
You could keep them and use them as Library bags when the kids got to school :D
why do they give you pillowcases anyway !!??
Such a waste...
Library bags?? but all mine are white ...i dont think they are so suitable for a little boys library bag, wouldnt stay white for long !! HEHE :p
I have been using them to wash my delicates in the washing machine...

Hey good idea! Now that is thinking... But, I work at a school and have you seen the size of some of the books for yr 1's. HUGE!! I could always sew 2 together. :D
I am in the process of buying sheets etc and was wondering why do they come with pillow cases when you're not meant to use them...and then where do you buy the pillows lol I haven't seen any anywhere!

You can use them to store toys in for in the car or when you're heading to someone's house that doesn't have toys.
If you're into sewing you can actually stitch them together to make blankies.
If you have toddlers just chuck tham in with their toys - you'll be amazed with how uses a toddler can find for them.
For bubs you can put cellophane inside them then stitch them up - They LOVE the sound of crinkly things.
The make excellent dolls blankets and sleeping bags.
That's about all I can think of right now - I must be off to pull my pillow cases out of the rubbish pile and put them to use!!:p

Tracey that is a fantastic idea about putting cellophane inside it!! I did that with Vallerie, although I used a zip-up delicates laundry bag thingy. She loved it!!!
Its a marketing ploy! Pillowcases and doona sets for infants!
You could always try and dye the white pillow case light blue or another colour for use as a more "masculine" non dirty library bag.
Yeah, I realyl don't get that. What about a sock/undie bag or something when they're older? Keep in mind I don't really know how big the pillow cases are.

Oh, of course, that is what I meant by throw out! They wouldn't have gone in the garbage! :)

Don't laugh, but we have been using them to store our big Christmas ham! :D
I'm not joking!!
Emy had reflux when a baby so I used them under her head and when she sicked on it I would just take that one away and put another under, easier than changing the whole cot. And I also used them for burping.

I put it in just for show, or as spew catchers in the cot. Oh and you get little pillows from Big W in the same area as the basinette matresses etc.

Or you can save them until bub is 12-18 months old and buy a pillow. That's when it should be ok to use pillows.
Why do they include them in the sheet sets anyway?

You would think they'd get with the program wouldn't you??? I was thinking if cutting mine up into smaller squares and making some kind of quilt thing. Mind you, so far, I've gotten as far as un picking them! Once they were unpicked i thought about making little pj pants with them but i was too slack and now bub is too big. think I'll end up holding onto them, if I have another boy, I might still do that.

Like emysmum i use mine under the fitted sheet for the drool & spew catchers lol otherwise i was changing sheets every 2nd day !!!!
Oh & like rb said you can buy the pillows for bubs cots to use for display i have done this you just take it out for when bubs sleeps etc makes things look all pretty when you have visitors :D
I've also found pillows to fit in spotlight - I use a couple just for show as well.
I like the idea of using them for delicates - either mine or the kids hand knitted cardigans or those special items with lace or frills that would get eaten alive by the machine!
Great storage for dolls clothes. Also when storing away small clothes that don't fit like singlets & socks - they won't get lost - just fold the end under and stack with all the other "too small" clothes.
Hmmmm.... might go to that tomorrow!

All the pillowcases that I have fit the 'junior pillows'...you can get them at Big W, in the same area as the normal pillows, they might also be in the baby section in some shops tho.
I use them to store the sheet sets in :)
When DS was little we had very limited cupboard space, so I pegged them onto coathangers and hung them in his wardrobe.
Now we have more cupboard space, but I still do the same thing, makes it very easy for DH to get the right sheets and not bring me 2 fitted ones :D
They are also good for using as a 'sheet bag' when bub goes to daycare.

Ditto ... either the pillowcase or a cloth nappy! Fantastic time saver with a reflux bub!
