Hey, :hugs: for your little one...hope they get better soon:fingerscrossed:

I do not like either:o sorry, I prefer Paedamin, it dries up the nose better, and makes DD a little drowsy which helps her sleep.
Demazin makes DD hypo, and I find Dimetapp doesn't really work...but that is JMHO, and ask your doctor or pharmacist, they will help you choose the right stuff:thumbsup: Good luck

Paedamin... havent heard of that.
Chemist told me to get Demazin but think it was just the first one he saw on the shelf lol
When I got home I found some Dimetap, so thought id see what others prefered

Def dont want him going hypo!

I will be watching this thread closely for what others have to say - as my doctor says not to get either  He says these medicines simply make the runny stuff hard - which can then create ear infections etc. He says it's better to just let it all drip out, you apparently recover quicker this way.
I don't know if that's true or not, but it certainly doesn't help a poor baby who is uncomfortable with a cold get to sleep :( So yeah, sorry i am no help, but i would love to know what other mums use that work well

I have PM you:D

Paedamin comes in a large bottle, it cost about $17 here, but its like 300ml I think? It just doesn't have the advertising that the others do, but I like it....

Demazin. My GP told me any of the cold/flu meds or cough meds are only good if you use them from the very start of the cold. By day 3 of the cold there are apparently useless.

Demazin for DS, he had a reaction with Dimetapp, spots all over his face and chest... was a little scary but he wasn't really affected. Demazin didn't send DS hypo, but definitely didn't help him sleep!

Neither - I think these types of medicines are overused unnecessarily. Best thing is to let the body take care of itself.
Using eucalyptus in an essential oil burner is wonderful, or even a vaporiser in the sick ones bedroom works wonders.

we used Demazin a few weeks ago , & it worked a treat as DD was coughing so bad & all the goop was getting stuck in her throat (sorry TMI) that she was frightened ,i am not a fan of medicating either really , but something had to be done for munchkin ,she didn't wake up as much in the night once we started dosing her up.
Hope your liitle one gets well soon , it's awful when they are so sick ,i used a homemade saline mixture & put a few drops up her nose & found that helped too.

I agree with this. You can hire a vaporiser for the chemist or buy one. I got one 3 years ago about $40 then & I've used it a lot. It's really good when they are chesty help them breath a lot better, just be careful of the steam.

I use both with my kids. I find that one will work great for one cold but wont have any effect at all the next time. I only give dimetap/demazin at night to help them sleep, I don't mind wiping noses thru the day.
If you don't have/can't get a vaporiser you can use a bowl of hot water with some eucalyptus oil in that (obviously not where the kids can get it). I put it under the cot after DD is in bed, helps her to breath easier :)

Hope your little one gets better quickly :)

I don't use either. I was also told by a pharmacist not to use anything that dries out the nose if they have a cold because it could dry the phlegm that is in their chest and they can get sicker. He said cause bubs was only 8 months at the time not to give him anything, i just rubbued Eukybear on his chest and had a vapouriser in the room.

Im with Rowie on the peadamin. Works the best by far. Ds3 is sick at the moment and prone to reaccuring infections, two doctors I have seen in the last 3 days have both said to give him the medicine to dry his nose out, if we dont he will end up with a ear infection as nothing will be able to drain away. Funny how some drs say no but some say yes to helping clear the nose. We also use saline solution to help clear it but the last two days have had to use a medicated nose drop, they work great.
