Hi

Just wondering if anyone knows about this area as have seen a job for DH. Currently in The Hunter. It looks a very small community from Google and a long way from anywhere. i may be wrong though.

Hi Helen.
Yes, it is a very remote area in the State's mid-North. It tends to be very hot & dry in summer and is known for having a large male population due to the nature of the jobs!! The jobs tend to be well paid because the area is so remote. I guess they figure they have to compensate for it. A lot of people live there for a few years, save a bit of money and then move back home.

Hi there,
I have lived in Roxby for nearly 15 years. It is 6 hours north of Adelaide, true, but it is a great town. It is hot in the summer for sure, but the winter days are beautiful. The town has a high male population but what you have not been told is that it also has an incredible number of young people and a HUGE amount of families with small children. In fact Roxby has the highest birth rate in all of Australia!
Our facilities are rapidly expanding. We have had a hospital for some time, a good range of shops, a beautiful indoor leisure and pool centre, many, many sporting clubs and facilities and a great school that ranges from R-12 as well as a Catholic Primary School.
The people here are friendly and you can live here for 15 years and still meet people that have lived here for the same amount of time as you!
The main source of income is the mine run by BHP but there are also lots of contractors to the mine and other small businesses. Roxby, like most mining towns, have high incomes and like other remote areas, it has its fair share of problems, but it's a great place to raise a family. There is a shortage of housing at the moment but BHP are currrently rectifying that problem. Lots of people come and go, but there are also MANY who this town is home to, and are here to stay for good.
