We are flying tomorrow for the first time with a 23mth old. Very mobile, very loud and at the moment going through extremes of joy and despair - normal toddler stuff.

I was told we could check in our car seat which we will be using while away with luggage and you need to take to the area where people check in their golf clubs etc. That they would wrap it etc?? We are flying Qantas.

Appart from the ideas of making sure he has something to suck on and swallow to help with the pressure on take off and landing and a couple of fav toys does anyone have any helpful hints?

We flew Jetstar last year and we just booked the car seat in with the regular luggage.

Thanks

Did you wrap it or anything? I am worried about it getting wet or dammaged??????

We flew earlier this year and bubble-wrapped our seat. I just thought that you don't know what happens behind the scenes and I didn't want to think of what could possibly be near or on the seat. I know there is a certain responsibility of baggage handlers but I also know from a friend who worked in that area that they really don't take all that much care.

As for tips - I dosed DD up on Dimetapp just before we boarded the plane. By the time the engines had started she was out cold and I had to wake her at the other end. If you are comfortable giving them to your child, jelly beans are a good way to combat pressure in the ears.

Thanks for that.
My MIL has sugested panadol before the flight incase his ears hurt him. I hate to admit she is right but I think I will just to be sure.
