View Full Version : Does my DD look like a boy?
I am getting quite jack of people calling my DD a boy, even when she is wearing pink. But maybe I just can't see it and am blinded as her mummy.
Do you think she does?

Nope. She doesn't look particularly girly, if I saw her and didn't know her I wouldn't be confident enough to refer to her as 'she', but if I had to guess I would def say she's a girl.
People are morons....... my 3 year old DD dressed in bright pink still gets called a boy
She's absolutely gorgeous btw

She looks like a baby. To be honest, I can never tell the gender of a baby unless told and I never try to guess.
I said 'a little' but only cause they all pretty much look like babies to me at that age and not strongly one sex or the other, its usually just the way their dressed that helps me.
She does have big beautiful blue eyes though that seem quite girly...but then boys can also have girly eyes lol.

i think it depens what you have them dressed in.
in your photo she looks like a happy and cute little girl but if she was wearing a light blue top or sumthing i might think other wise but only because at that stage all babies look the same.
but She is one little cutie!

Nope! I'd say girl! Apparently as a baby, I always looked like a boy. I can see that too! I think it was the way my hair grew.
But your daughter has gorgeous eyes, and they to me totally say that shes a girl!
Absolutely beautiful girl at that!
I said a little...
But all babies are 'a little' to me. I can only ever tell by the colour/clothes they are wearing or by asking the Mum or Dad.
The boys always got girl/boy? Even though they're identical boys... and as their hair grew everyone thought they were girls... until they outgrew the 'baby' stage and now they look like hunky little surfer boys
I said a little too. I cant tell at that age about their gender. It does depend on what they are wearing etc etc.
Dont worry though, my eldest DS was always called a girl and he was wearing ford outfits, blue boys clothes etc. Some people just speak too soon!

She's absolutely gorgeous. Who cares whether people say 'gorgeous boy' or 'gorgeous girl' though? When they're little sometimes it's hard to tell. I never liked sticking to just blue clothes for my son, we always went for colour, therefore lots of people called him a girl. I just politely thanked them and didn't bother correcting. It's not important to me. The main thing is, you have a beautiful child and people are letting you know.
ooh, she's beautiful. I love her baldy little bubba head. I wanted a bald baby so much but I got one of the hairiest ones I have ever seen.
Once she gets some hair she will look a bit more girly. She doesn't look boyish though, just bald!
She is a doll, you must be so proud!!
I think she looks like a girl and a very beautiful one at that! She has the cutest shaped pink lips and gorgeous eyes :)
Thanks for all your lovely compliments as I have been blessed with 2 of the most adorable children. And I know that some babies don't look like any sex in particular and I don't know why I am getting funny over it but I guess they can't see past her eyes to see she is wearing pink.....

I think some people are just stupid, I dress my boy bub in blue, he has a blue blanket in his pram with cars all over it and I still get asked if he is a boy or girl  .

Honestly if shes in pink well i would know shes a girl, if she was dressed unisex i think its hard to tell a babies sex unless its obvious from what they are wearing or what their name is, if you know it :)

She is beautiful!!! What amazing eyes, and such a serene knowing gaze  You should be very proud!
She will break lots of hearts when she gets older (much much older!!!) I am sure

once she grows some hair there'll be no mistaking it with inconsiderate people.
Unless it is painstakingly obvious if a baby is boy or girl, then I NEVER comment using the gender.
You're girl is beautiful no matter what anyone says
I said a little my DD looks like a boy even I think so lol she gets called a boy all the time, I love it when people say "what his name?" and I say "Eliza" :D
Love it they look at me like OMG she gave her son a girls name...:D

Same... usually anyway.
She looks like a beautiful baby to me. I would never assume to know the sex of a baby just from the appearance.
Ava's been called a boy before, but then I dress her in blue sometimes :D
She is one seriously beautiful little girl, ahe will break hearts with them eyes.

 Definately a girl!!!
I just asked my DH what he thought and he said girl straight away.
We get it a lot with my DD.
(I think it's because she has short hair - it's growing slowly)
Doesn't matter whether she is dressed in pink or what. I even had someone question me today and she was wearing a dress lol.

i said no but knowing that she was a "she" before looking at the picture may have made a difference, i dunno like the others said all babies kinda just look like babies, i'm always a bit wary of saying "he" or "she" before actually knowing lol Gorgeous little girl BTW!!

I voted for no.
She dosnt look like a boy i even asked my df and he said no.

Hi there Trumpet
Personally i think she does look like a girl... you better watch out when she's a teen though, she has gorgeous eyes :).
I also have people say my daughter is such a cute little boy. Although i think my lil girl could pass easily for a boy at the moment. My daughter just needs to grow some longer locks so i can put a clip or something in her hair .

they are beautiful eyes!
Honestly I said a little. Once her hair grows she will be more obviously female though.
When I had my son we were still in hospital and DH was walking him up and down the hall and a nurse said to him "Oh you have such a gorgeous little girl"
DH was not impressed and said he is a boy...lol the nurse was slightly embarrassed.
He now looks like a real little boy now though..it all depends on the way you dress them and for girl bubs it is all about the accessories, bows, earrings, bracelet etc.

NO....she looks like a very adorable baby...She has the most stunning eyes...People call my dog a boy all the time, I know it's not the same, but I think people just say "He" when they're unsure!!!
I wouldn't worry too much, but if you are maybe put a headband with a bow in her hair or something like that:thumbsup:

She looks like a baby. To be honest, I can never tell the gender of a baby unless told and I never try to guess.
me too
sometimes i guess to myself by looking for 'signs' of gender. and listening for hints in conversation etc. if im at a loss i say to the baby "hello whats your name", usually it help, unless they have a unisex name
I suppose you could always buy one of these, no mistaking the gender then! lol

I find it hard to tell what sex babies are, I always look at what they are wearing if I'm going to comment. If it's pink then it's a girl. But I don't usually comment unless I know the person anyway. Noah gets talked to all the time when we are at the shops, he is gorgeous and he has talk to me eyes, but sometimes it's kinda creepy :p
One lady stopped her shopping in woollies one day just to stand and talk to Noah while we were in line for about 5 mins. That I find to be a bit full on.
I'm not worried if they get the sex of my baby wrong, although it did annoy me when they were just born in NICU, with thier names printed in bold above thier cot. Nurses who looked after my babies night and day, who didn't even look at thier name before they say "she is doing really well today, or she slept through the last feed" Well thats funny because last time I checked 'she' was called Noah and had a penis  Obviously he didn't get a nappy change on your shift :p
Your little girl is gorgeous!!! She won't know anyone thought she was a boy unless you tell her :)

I said a little, but only because I think she could easily be seen either way.
Babies, particularly babies with no hair, tend to look pretty unisex. Sometimes the girls looks kinda like boys, and sometimes the boys look kinda like girls... but they always look more unisex than anything else.
A lot of people have their babies referred to as the wrong sex, even when they're wearing "boy" or "girl" colours... so don't take it personally.
I said a little, but probably only because those blue eyes remind me off my little boy. Who incidently the midwives though looked more like a girl when he was born.
I think most babies could be mistaken for both boy or girl in the early months.

i think she looks like a girl, shes got the cutest eyes and her chin is so cute!!!
people alway think my little guy is a girl, even though i dresss him in blue, his pram is blue and i call him the little man
even the nurses at hospital called him she, AFTER they checked his ankle bands and changed his nappy :banghead:
i wouldnt worry about it babies are pretty hard to figure out anyway, and once her hair is longer it will be blatantly obvious

Sometimes people are just IDIOTS. The OB who DELIVERED DD from my body referred to her as "HE," even though her vagina was in plain view. What a MORON!

Lol SassyMummy. :D
I didn't choose anything in the poll cos none of them really suited.
I think you would have gotten a more accurate result if you'd just asked "What sex is this baby?" or something similar. :)

25-05-2007, 16:12
nope.. i would say that gorgeous face was a lil girl..
when coby was lil everyone asked me what it was, even when he was wearing blue!!!
then they would ask what her name is, how old is she!!

my son gets called a girl all the time
and when you correct people they say oh its cause of those gorgeous blue eyes
if you ask me my son looks like a boy lol
and i think you dd looks like a girl (shes cute by the way )
but its fustrating really when they are dressed in certain colours and people still get it wrong
Seriously, I wouldn't worry. We got it all the time with dd1. Her hair was extremely short and took forever to grow, only gaining length when she was about 3-4 yrs old.
She wore alot of blue, but even when she was dressed in girly colours ppl thought she was a boy.
Then you've got her name (Tatum) which can be used for a boy aswell.
I just got used to it. If ppl said something like "What's his name?" I'd just say "Her name is .....". On the odd occasion ppl must have just had it in their heads that she was a boy and would continue to think she was a boy:rolleyes:
For a lot of ppl it's just an honest mistake, sometimes it's hard to tell, especially nowadays with colours not being as sterotypical as they used to be. Can't say I've seen too many boys running around in hot pink but it does happen!!

I have the same problem and my dd is 22months old, kinda annoys me too because I think if people aren't sure they could ask 'what's your bubs name instead of assuming one way but hey she's still a baby so it is harder with babies.

My husband's brother looked very girly when he was little and once when he was on the bus with his mum, a lady said "oh what a lovely little girl" and his mum said "no, he is a boy" the lady didn't believe her and grabbed his crotch to check!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say he was not impressed, I think he was about 5 years old at the time.
P.S I think your daughter is gorgeous and like everyone else has said, don't worry about what people say.

Shes absolutely beautiful!
Those eyes are so big and meaningful, and them lips are just adorable!
I know I get annoyed too when I have our little respite DD, and people ask how old he is!
Dh had a drs appt last week and we had her with us. Sitting in the stroller, PINK boots, butterfly jeans, BIG KNITTED CARDIGAN(pink and orange), and a BIG BLUE RIBBON in her little fountain ponytail, and this old lady was chatting away calling her a boy.. and god it frustrated me lol!
Like others said, just take any comment as a compliment. its the easiest way lol

WARNING: SCIENCE CONTENT
The physical definition between human boys and girls (besides the obvious, but you aren't going to see that bit at the shops unless in the changeroom!) before puberty is negligable. Body shape, facial features, voice, before puberty we are very much the same.
We 'see' a little girl if the child has long hair and is wearing a pink dress. shave that kid's head and put them in 'boy' clothes and you 'see' a little boy.
Certain facial features can make someone automatically think 'girl' or 'boy' but physiologically there are no definate 'girl' only or 'boy' only physical structures at that age!
Some parents like to dress their kids up in a way that ABSOLUTLY advertises what sex the child is, others don't care.
I wouldn't worry.
I wouldnt say she looks more like a boy or a girl, she looks very neutral.
If she was naked and i only saw the top half of her body i dont think i would be able to make a safe guess.
Once she has a little hair im sure she will look much more girly.
And with those killer eyes she will be a stunner
