that is I will be ina few short weeks, my husband and I and our three young boys (7, 5 and 1) will be living in Tasmania from the 16th Feb this year. We are relocating from England for a minimum of 12 months with my husbands work.

We only knew a couple of days before Christmas that we would be coming and our flights were confirmed just last week - it has all happened so quickly!

We have just secured a rental property in Sandy Bay, Hobart, apart from the bathroom it looks lovely and we are looking forward to getting there, my husband, Paul, is flying over tomorrow to start his work but then comes home in a few weeks and we all fly to Tasmania together.

I would really appreciate any advice on schools int eh area, we ahve a 7 yr old and a five yr old. The younger one only turned five last week but has been in full time education for sometime already and is doing really well, I believe he qualifies for kindergarten but do worry that he may find it does nto stretch him enough. It is so hard to know what to do when you are 11000 miles away.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

I hope to get to know you all soon!

Lynda,

I'm originally from Tassie and grew up in Sandy Bay. In regards to schools it depends on if you want a private or public school. You being from England I think Australian private schools are the equivalent to your public schools, i may be wrong though. St Michaels Collegiate is a wonderful private all girls school and Hutchins is a private all boys school. Hutchins is located in Sandy Bay, Collegiate is nearer to the city but really only a five/ten minute drive away. The other close private schools in the area is Fahan (all girls) all cater for kinder to year 12.
If you are wanting to go public (where you don't pay thousands of dollars in schoold fees) Wahamer Heights (sorry i don't know how to spell that) is a co-ed primary public school located on Churchill Avenue in Sandy Bay. That always had a good requtation for being a good school. Can't really give you any more info on public schools as I went to a private one, but if any more come to mind i'll let you know.
